The Irish song "The Eagle's Whistle" is known as Bonaparte's retreat in the U.S.A. In one of the western states it is known as "Bonaparte's Retreat Over the Rocky Mountains", which is an interesting concept.

Chanteyranger:

I have an old Peter Bellamy LP with "On Board a '98"-- I'll have to dust it off. Been years since I listened to it... CDs have really spoiled me (sigh)

Dick:
I am planning to ask for some of this stuff for my birth day so I will let people know.

Also, "The Sailor's New Leg" from the Greig Duncan collection, which is definitely about fighting the French, even though Napoleon isn't mentioned by name.

C.R.--
I was stunned by the Peter Belamy/Wake the Vaulted Echoes -- loved that rendition of Bright Morning Stars. The only time I've heard it done like that was back in the 70's, an old retired coal miner from West Virginia used to sing it that way (occasionally with some help from his friends). Thank you so much!

I believe Admiral Benbow fought the French and died of his wounds in August of 1702, so a century before Napoleon
