Subject: Alive! From: wysiwyg Date: 29 Apr 04 - 12:20 PM I guess I've been having a fairly lousy time, as have several others, but ya know-- so what! It is good to be alive, and we are! What is LIFE doing in your neck of the woods? What's new and good? Us-- a new minivan, gigworthy, WITH CD player! And no kids at home to carry in it, and mess it up, but we know where they all are, they call us now and then, and they are fine! Your turn! ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Alive! From: Rapparee Date: 29 Apr 04 - 01:58 PM It's stopped snowing (really -- there was snow on the ground this morning and the hills have new snow on their tops) and the weekend is supposed to be beautiful. The flowers are up, including lilacs and tulips and bleeding hearts and everything. |
Subject: RE: Alive! From: open mike Date: 29 Apr 04 - 02:43 PM I can take a deep breath and the iris boquet that i just picked (cut) is filling the house with perfume. The sun is shining, the coffee is hot and I had dinner with my daughter last night. My new boyfriend is a welcome addition to life! |
Subject: RE: Alive! From: Nerd Date: 29 Apr 04 - 03:58 PM Putting the final touches on a book manuscript, working with two co-editors by email...one's in Utah and one is California and I'm in Philly, so it's a good way to keep up with friends, too. But it's been keeping me up late nights. Taking next week off from work as vacation, during which I will write and catch up on sleep. So life will be even better then! |
Subject: RE: Alive! From: Mudlark Date: 29 Apr 04 - 04:19 PM Susan...very glad to hear your world has brightened! And all other good news here, too. I've just come in from digging in the garden. My new hip wont take too much of that but it is a joy to be able to do it at all. And, this Sat. I've been asked to do a paying gig (until now thought that was, for me, anyway, an oxymoron). I'm to be "gate entertainment" at a big acoustic music festival, playing for all those waiting in line to buy tickets, and get in. I was so astounded to be asked that I agreed immediately, and only when the glow wore off did I take in that I'd be playing from 8:30-10...on the morning. Lordy, I can barely remember my name that early, I'm a night owl. Just hope adrenalin will come to my aid. Scary, but exciting as well. |
Subject: RE: Alive! From: Amos Date: 29 Apr 04 - 04:22 PM Nancy: Just bring a little water bottle with some of that local Red in it and you'll do just fine!! Actually, you know, you'll do just fine anyway, dearheart! You could knock 'em dead in your sleep!!~ Werll, maybe that's a botched metaphor, but you know what I mean. A |
Subject: RE: Alive! From: Bill D Date: 29 Apr 04 - 05:06 PM does the phrase "busy as a one-armed paperhanger" ring any bells? Spring is here...which means the lawn needed mowing IMMEDIATELY, and we have a local folk festival in a month, and I am in charge of crafts, so extra administrivia, as well as trying to make stuff for MY booth.......and a never ending wonderful batch of folk events locally, which eat up the time as well as bringing pleasure. Add to it all that I am turning 65 in a few weeks, and have all THAT to deal with in Medicare and different doctors....(SO many choices!)... But the brushfires are all small ones right now, though some are tedious .......yeah, I'm doin' ok.... |
Subject: RE: Alive! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 29 Apr 04 - 09:48 PM May Day is always something to celebrate. (And this year it's the day that ten new countries come into the European Union - and it's really pissing off the xenophobes and racists...) |

Subject: RE: Alive! From: Bat Goddess Date: 30 Apr 04 - 10:47 AM And Tom is alive and, though recovering from surgery, in sooooo much better health than he's been in for a long time. And I'm turning my organization and capability in juggling all the paperwork, applying for assistance, meeting with people, seeing Tom through surgery and in the hospital, and still getting done all the things that have to be done around the house, etc. and doing it all under extreme pressure, but maintaining a sense of humor -- which seems to impress everyone I'm dealing with --into a positive piece of experience for my resume! I'm incredible thankful, too, for our amazing bunch of friends! And on top of everything else, it's NOT WINTER ANY MORE!!! Linn |
Subject: RE: Alive! From: Amos Date: 30 Apr 04 - 11:44 AM I have a job and can pay my bills; peers I enjoy both at work and here. I have music in my fingers and can make good stuff happen. I can feel pain without folding up, and still feel laughter and excitement, and life even in an ordinary vein is exciting. The human world is fuill of interesting, bright, gung-ho people going somewhere, or doimg something, even if what they are doing is singing yesterday's songs; these, too, serve. I have a family I love, a brother and nephews I enjoy a lot, a sister to love, and even some inlaws I love, too! And a small cotillion of really brilliant close friends whom I hold in special esteem. So all told, it's quite a stock of riches! Wish I hadn't butchered that tree trimming job yesterday, though!! :>)) A |
Subject: RE: Alive! From: freda underhill Date: 30 Apr 04 - 11:49 AM I have some beautiful maidenhair ferns that I bought just for the hell of it, and will plant in the morning, under my japanese maple tree... |

Subject: RE: Alive! From: Áine Date: 30 Apr 04 - 06:36 PM I'm breaking in my new hiking boots, and enjoying my new 'do' -- I tried growing my hair long and just couldn't take it anymore -- SHORT rules!! Caitlin and I are leaving at 6:30 am tomorrow morning to attend our first Girl Scout campout. The bluebonnets are in bloom and the skeeters are a bitin' . . . all things are right in this little corner of Texas . . . what else could I ask for? Oh yeah, my father-in-law has finished the mandolin he was making for me, and I'll get it on Mothers Day, two days ahead of my birthday. Couldn't ask for more at the moment ;-) All the best, Áine |
Subject: RE: Alive! From: Little Hawk Date: 30 Apr 04 - 06:40 PM Oh well, lots of good music here, and the wildflowers are blooming. Going out to some Native-style drumming and singing tonight. |
Subject: RE: Alive! From: annamill Date: 01 May 04 - 11:55 AM I had my doubts but I planted my climbing rose with big orange flowers in a big pot anyway. It's been in my apartment near the window until last week when I put it outside. I thought for sure it was gonna die. It didn't show any signs of life and one of the branches was losing it's greenness and turning brown. It finally warmed up so I put the big pot out on my balcony to get some fresh air and sun. Two days ago I went out on my little balcony and there they were, sprouts coming out of my rose bush. It only needed fresh air, a little natural rain. Pretty soon I'll have big, beautiful orange roses growing up the trellis. Alive!! Yeah!! Funny how small thing can make your life seem better. Or maybe it's the sun and warmth. Love, Annamill (looking forward to moving to where it's warm) |
Subject: RE: Alive! From: Mudlark Date: 02 May 04 - 01:22 AM A perfect MayDay, spent in a bower, a natural amphitheater with a whole day of acoustic music, including the Waybacks, a powerful group, and Laurie Lewis/Nina Gerber. And I got through my part without embarrassig myself or screwing up the songs I love, and was perceived as "a musician," whereas I perceive myself as just someone with an OK voice, about 1000 songs and a few chords on a good guitar. Anyway, it was a great day and I'm feeling particularly alive tonight. |
Subject: RE: Alive! From: ranger1 Date: 02 May 04 - 12:39 PM I'm back workng at my ranger job, enjoying the physical labor and watching spring make it's way back to Maine. Friday I painted the railings on our two new bridges, while working on the first one, I was accompanied by a flock of white-throated sparrows and a pileated woodpecker, while working on the second, I had a grand view of our resident pair of osprey. The mayflowers bloomed in time for may day and they smell so good! I also get to be roadie tonight for some friends who are doing a may day concert. Life doesn't get much better. |
Subject: RE: Alive! From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 02 May 04 - 12:48 PM The garden is doing great. I walked by it this morning and a head of lettuce had a deer in a chokehold and was screaming. "You're gonna eat WHAT????" in its face. |
Subject: RE: Alive! From: DonMeixner Date: 02 May 04 - 12:56 PM Enjoying the fact that my deafness was temporary. Making jewelry like mad to be ready for the craft component of Old Songs. And at the same time letting little things get me down. Life is pretty normal here in Up State New York . :-))) Don |
Subject: RE: Alive! From: Amos Date: 03 May 04 - 12:17 AM The tree trimming has all been done and the "botch" was really just a partially sone job that has been completed well so alles is gute!!! All the bags of cuttings are done and gone and ll the sweeping and raking is complete and life is fine in the burgeoning warmth of Spring. 'Bout time, too. A |
