Did anyone hear Anonymous 4 on St. Paul's Sunday (NPR)! Some great traditional interpretations. Someone must have a link for a stream. It's worth a listen.

They were beautiful. They gave excellent explanations of the background of the music. Traditional sound? NOT!

Now that I've heard it, I can get by without buying the CD.

Just heard this program, obviously a repeat, while driving home from the Pennsylvania mountains.

I like the Alabama Sacred Harp convention-style------ rough, real, obviously sung by believers. But I also like the neo-Sacred Harp sound of, say, the Word of Mouth Chorus (Rivers of Delight). And I think the Anonymous 4 American Angels CD is stunning. Not traditional, fine. But their voices are indeed angelic.

They are particularly good in the gospel songs, say, Shall We Gather At the River? (With all 5 verses, too, and easy to understand.)

Their rendition of At the River is especially poignant-- "Soon our happy hearts will quiver /With the melody of peace" when you realize that song was written in 1865.

We've owned their CD for more than a year and play it often. Everything they sang on St. Paul Sunday is on the CD. It's called "American Angels". But, we had a helluva time finding it. After trying several shops in various parts of California, we finally found it in Georgetown.

I have heard them perform in Portland, Maine USA. They performed a medieval French-Latin verson of a ballad the Chabroniers De l'enfer, Chantons la chanson des filles. Definitely not traditional. Definitely worth seeing. I give them A+ for the effort they put into performing and selecting their material.

I hesitate to say it, but you can get it from CAMSCO. Without doing a lot of shopping. 800/548-FOLK
