Subject: Band Needed in Herts UK From: CharlieA Date: 12 May 04 - 09:29 AM Ok, It's a fair way in advance but I'm looking at costs of a Celleigh band in Hertfordshire. Acoustic preferably. For April time next year. As a small warning *g* the occasion I will be booking for is a LARP event. for those of you who have just gone blank and have no idea of what I am Talking about I will explain. Live Action Role Play (or LARP) is where a bunch of peeps dress up in fantasy costumes, pretend to be other people and well, get drunk and have mock fights etc. Our Group is a faction of a larger group and has a Celtic/Scottish feel (we wear kilts and some of us pretend to have Scottish accents - usually badly) It's alot of fun - Last event we did this we booked the Bedcote Ceilliegh band and they really enjoyed themselves but this one will be in hertfordshire. So anyway could anyone give me contacts or offers or any info. any questions pls ask and I'll shut up now! *g* |

Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: IanC Date: 12 May 04 - 10:35 AM Charlie Depends on how long you want them for, but from 7:30 till midnight cost me £400. About as good as it gets round here. BTW are you still up for a bit of sword dancing? We have a vacancy or two for trainees! Let me know. :-) |
Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: CharlieA Date: 12 May 04 - 11:38 AM may well be at some point soon! Cxxx |
Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: treewind Date: 12 May 04 - 11:43 AM I could recommend Fendragon but then I would, wouldn't I? Which part of Hertfordshire? We're based in Cambridge and have recently played in Codicote (about as far as we'd normally want to go) and Hitchin (being one of the public Unicorn ceilidh series, we wouldn't mind how far we went for that) We are an acoustic band, if by that you mean we don't have electric guitars and a drum kit - the line up is flute/recorder, fiddle, melodeon and keyboard. We can bring a caller too! PM me if you ar einterested. Exact location and date would help a lot. Anahata |
Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: CharlieA Date: 12 May 04 - 11:49 AM Ok the site I'm thinking about is Tolmers campsite in Cuffley. I don't have a date yet as I'm only starting to suss out prices and selections etc. It's likely to be under a marquee. Cxxx |
Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: Sarah the flute Date: 12 May 04 - 12:53 PM Look no further Book the Flying Chaucers Just type in "flying Chaucers" to google and up pops our website and a lovely picture of us too!!! We can do the scottish bit and Irish bit and chuck ina bit of Breton, English, American etc. Our melodian player likes dressing up! and has been seen in full scottish kit on several occasions. Line up is fiddle/melodeon/guitar/percussion and I do the calling and inbetween flute/whistle stuff Contact me via PM or via website Sarah |
Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: GUEST Date: 12 May 04 - 01:43 PM Charlie Check out the webfeet web site. It has a list of ceilidh bands by county here. I think you will be lucky to find a band that can do things completely acoustically because the caller usually needs a PA to be heard. Of course, I'd be happy to offer my services! But check out webfeet unless you can get the recommendation of a band close to your event. |

Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: breezy Date: 12 May 04 - 02:50 PM Chaucers are south London , nowhere near Herts. A H A |

Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: breezy Date: 12 May 04 - 06:35 PM what, for the speedway! How do I know that? Cos a couple of our club regulars do it Have you seen His Worship and the Pig then? They're from the Potteries and are playing our club on friday 4th June at the Duke of Marlborough. this week its Chris Flegg, former res at the troub in its heady days. see www.folk4all.net for more info on our Friday and Sunday clubs St Albans is closer closer to what I wont say, but roman remains and wont go away. |
Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: treewind Date: 12 May 04 - 06:58 PM Unamplified, eh? Not for a dance and not outside! (or in a marquee which is acoustically the same) Yes, I know F&F did it at a Sidmouth LNE once (golly, those were the days) Is there no electric then? Lit by genuine mediaeval spluttering candles... Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: Rasener Date: 13 May 04 - 04:50 AM Hey Breezy I saw His Worship and the Pig at Gainsborough Folk Club, just recently. They were very good. Very enjoyable evening. |
Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: Doktor Doktor Date: 13 May 04 - 05:02 AM If you want to catch HW&TP you could do worse than attend the Vestry in Stortford in two - details on http://Beerfordbury.com. PS - would the BBTWTA be any use for your Cuffley job? They're barmy enough to do silly things in the open air. See above site for info. |
Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: breezy Date: 13 May 04 - 05:31 AM and with George tonight and Ben and Tab next week too you have a very good May programme. I can recommend the Vestry on a Thursday as its a very pleasant club to be at, very friendly with banter between audience and performers. Great acoustics too. Well done to Jon watch out for the underdog! |
Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: Doktor Doktor Date: 13 May 04 - 05:52 AM ... he'll bite yer nuts ...... |
Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: Doktor Doktor Date: 13 May 04 - 05:53 AM ... at least thats what an underdog sounds like it ought to do .... thgank sfor those kind comments sir. St Albans aint all that bad either ! |
Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: Sarah the flute Date: 13 May 04 - 07:55 AM We can do semi-amplified. Have done unamplified band and then i put the radiomike thru a little portable amp with a combined speaker. Think it would be all a bit quiet for an outside gig. Why is breezy accusing us of using the M1 as a speedway ..... no chance at the moment with the nasty spy cameras on the M25 all ready to tell you how many people they've nabbed doing 41mph. Sarah |
Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: breezy Date: 13 May 04 - 08:08 AM oi fluatist one, there is speedway racing every week in Stoke. Forget it. Thats why I left south London |
Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: Sarah the flute Date: 13 May 04 - 10:31 AM .....and I thought everything slowed down up north! |

Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: Leraud Date: 14 May 04 - 09:04 AM I haven't got a band but I do play a recorder very badly. I like to dress up and enjoy roleplay. I often pretend that I'm a single middle-aged woman with a cat who works as a school secretary . Well done Breezy - you even managed to advertise the club on this thread! Two can play at that game! QUICKSILVER ON AT WALTHAM ABBEY FC MONDAY 17TH MAY! Lynne |
Subject: RE: Band Needed in Herts UK From: breezy Date: 14 May 04 - 09:15 AM of course, because I know that All Hands Around have a proven track record and Alison knows her stuff when it comes to tunes for dances and they are good value plus good musicians, Shame they lost their guitarist who drove the rhythm and made them rock Ive heard Lynne on the recorder, how she manages to remembers those one note tunes beats me. Ive apologisd to herga, see you Monday. Mike sparks the following Sunday at the spotlight.this wek Rosa's daughters Yes All Hands Around come recommended |
