Smiling Bill Whaley and Delightful Dave Fletcher play a wide vaiety of material in their own inimitable style. They can even make Dylan sound traditional. It will be a great night.

There's not a finer voice in England than Dave Fletcher's. And Bill's cheery, sunny disposition is an example to us all. (Sorry Bill, couldn't resist it mate!!).

Seriously, they are a fantastic duo - wonderful songs beautifully sung and played, and hilarious repartee between numbers. If they come round your way, be there or be a plonker. You won't regret going to see them. Top class stuff.

Johnny :0)

I have to make a correction.

Sooz has just given me a blocking :-)

Apparently, a very nice gentleman who forms part of a duo that sings at Market Rasen Folk Club as well as Gainsborough Folk Club (thought I better mention that, incase she gives me another blocking :-)), that was the person who encouraged, nurtured and coerced young Lucy Wright and Paul Young to sing at Gainsborough Folk Club. If he hadn't done that then we might well not have the pleasure of listening to Lucy's beautiful voice and Paul playing lovely guitar accompaniment.

His name is Terry Cater and the duo is called Gwenda and Terry Cater.

Terry my profuse apologies. Buy yer a beer next time at the club :-)

Right the next apology is about Bill Whaley and Dave Fletcher's Website.

Unfortunately they are having problems updating their website, so if you look at it you will only see 2003 bookings. They are trying to get this sorted out. Still worth looking at their site though. :-)

OK I am waiting for the third cockup :-) has to be before midnight, incase I turn back into Goldilocks brother. :-)

These two are also appearing at the Wooden Horse Folk Club at the Junction Inn, News Lane Rainford (by the Station)Lancashire on June 6th. I'm on residency duty that night but don't let that put you off coming along and having a gradely neet (as we say in these parts) with Bill and Dave

Cheers
Mark

Strolling Johnny - spot on with your description. We've just had a cracking night - wonderful singing and musicianship, much hilarity, Bill absolutely radiant. Johnny Collins successfully requested English Ale, and we were all utterly gobsmacked by the S-wave electronic airless concertina with banjo effect (not on English Ale,I hasten to add).

Sooz - greetings from Gainsborough duly passed on. They knew the greetings came from you, so I think they might have seen this thread?

and enjoyed even more when sitting next to Kitty Vernon and hearing her harmonise.

the 2nd set simply flew by with an excellent set of songs sung well.

that invisible 'swave'concertina was most interesting with Bill demonstrating its versitilty.

and Bill was as expected the life and soul of the evening and enjoyed Truscott's song, which Bob Fox is also interested in.

well worth the admission price of £450

Breezy - I know they were really good, but there should have been a decimal point in your post, after the 4 and before the 50? As they pointed out, Lincolnshire (apart from Lincoln)hasn't got many steep bits, so I wouldn't want anyone to think they'd priced themselves out of an audience......

Oops - will get the hang of this!
What a pleasure to sing to such a great bunch of people and to have all that chorus and harmony coming back at you. It was terrific to put faces to names I see on Mudcat (must get round to joining) and so pleased you all enjoyed the night - you can be sure we did. And it only took us two hours to get home, that's almost local! Thanks for the recommend Sooz - you know Gainsboro is one of our favourite places to sing

No surprises. I had already seen Bill and Dave twice before (incl the Songlinks launch), and have all their albums, so I expected the very best. And I got it. In spades.

The only surprise is why I don't see their names in big bold capitals more regularly in club notices in the south.

At 11:00 I'd happily have rewound the evening back to 8:30 and enjoyed it all over again.

And I had a dream last night... Bill and Dave were in 4-part harmony with Martyn W-R and Ian Giles (of Oxford Waites & Half-Moon fame).

Aaaahhhhhh!

Dave
You will be able to almost walk home when you come to Market Rasen on June 4th.

"Bill and Dave were in 4-part harmony with Martyn W-R and Ian Giles (of Oxford Waites & Half-Moon fame)."

Could it be that you are having a dream about June 4th? Do dreams come true? :-)

Greko - "The only surprise is why I don't see their names in big bold capitals more regularly in club notices in the south" - is it a manifestation of that disease prevalent in the south, "Theworldendsatwatfordgapitis"? :0) (LOL)

Breezy, Kitty et al - glad you enjoyed Bill & Dave. Arent't they fantastic! Hopefully, with a few more people like you we can turn them from being 'Lincolnshire's Best Kept Secret' into 'Lincolnshire's Second-Best-Known Export' (after the sausages!). Only joking B&D! :0)

Trumpet their names far and wide please guys, they're too good to be hidden away up here in Lincs.

Johnny :0)

There's quite a big gap between north of Watford, and south of Watford Gap. I think Brian Dawson should help get B&D booked on the WI calendar circuit....

Monday morning and the sun is shining
The clouds have gone away
The wife and kids are still in bed
Thats great cuase theres no whining

Its chauffer day for me again
Take my wife and daughter to the Ode-an
What do they want to see, youve guessed
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

So for two and a half hours
What will I do I sigh
Why look after the younger daughter
And go to B&Q for a bit of DIY

Roll on Friday night I say
For I just cannot wait
To watch our Bill and Dave singing
I hope they won't be late :-)

I didn't know, until I got to Chippenham on Friday and bought a programme, that Bill and Dave were guesting at my singaround on Saturday! Which they did splendidly. Even though they were worked really hard at the festival, they were still going great guns in the finishing "It's a Belter" chorus sing in the Cause Auditorium last night.

Having only listened to their tapes and having been told that they are much better in real life...I am so looking forward to Friday at Market Rasen,,,,Didn't realise you were a poet Les.

You wrote with such feeling,
Your story to tell.
Each person who reads it,
Would think you're in hell.

But Les I must tell you,
That Heavens where you are.
See I'm on my own now!!!
You're more Blessed by far.

My one consolation,
Is the music I hear.
At Rasen or Gainsborough,
It gives me such cheer.

I can't wait till Friday,
To see Bill and Dave.
For all Folk freak addicts,
It's our kind of "Rave"

Then Saturday to "Donny".
For a final farewell.
To the Buffalo Brothers,
It's so sad to tell.

But the music will last,
And so the Folk lore.
Although we might miss them,
There'll always be more.

To all you performers,
Of folk tune and song.
Don't ever give up as,
The show must go on.

Be Blessed.
