Subject: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 24 May 04 - 06:31 AM Does anyone have a copy of the Bracknell festival programme for 1980 or 1981. I am trying to find the names of a Female Candadian duet who played the festival in one of those years. A song they sang has been bugging me for nearly 25 years, I've tried posting the lyric's I know without success, so I'll try a different tack. Cheers Raggy |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: GUEST,T-boy Date: 24 May 04 - 07:38 AM I suppose Kate & Anna McGarrigle would be too obvious. |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: GUEST,Raggtash Date: 24 May 04 - 07:47 AM Yup, Thanks anyway |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: GUEST,T-boy Date: 24 May 04 - 08:03 AM You're welcome. I was probably there, but I'm buggered if I can think who it might have been. |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: Rasener Date: 24 May 04 - 09:50 AM Try pm ing Roger the skiffler. He lives in that area and may well be able to sort something out for you. I used to live in bracknell and indeed was a steward but that was mid nineties, when it has changed to a amusic festival. |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 24 May 04 - 10:02 AM There were two unaccompanied singers who sang at Towersey around that time. One of the singers was a Brit who had emigrated to Vancouver but had sung in some biggish unaccompanied group in the 70' (not the Young Tradition) but I'm buggered if I can remember the name. |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: Skipper Jack Date: 24 May 04 - 02:30 PM Have you tried Folk Roots? They have magazines going back to the 70's It used to be called Southern Rag. I could have helped you. But, only recently I dumped all my back copies. |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: Kevin Sheils Date: 24 May 04 - 03:48 PM The only other female canadian duo I can think of is Anita Best and Pamela Morgan, but I think they performed together a little later than the date mentioned. Come to think of it they were/are IIRC East rather than West coast canada. |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: The Borchester Echo Date: 24 May 04 - 04:00 PM My first reaction was fRoots - as it has been called for the past 6 years or so - though as Skipper Jack says, it was Southern Rag at the time. I also think that 1980 was before Ian Anderson was involved in the organisation of Bracknell. But you could ask. SJ: where did you dump your back copies? I want them! |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: Raggytash Date: 24 May 04 - 07:33 PM Excuse ignorance, what is IIRC as opposed to West Coast Canada, I didn't specify a region, did I? |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: Kevin Sheils Date: 25 May 04 - 09:34 AM No you didn't, but MC Fat suggested there was a singer from Vancouver around the UK at that time so I was just adding that my possibility didn't fit in with his suggestion. Sorry for trying to be helpful ;-) |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 25 May 04 - 12:00 PM Kevin, The reference from Jim and your contribution didn't make any sense to me as I don't know what the IIRC is, and still don't, didn't mean to upset anyone :-( |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: Kevin Sheils Date: 25 May 04 - 03:55 PM Never upset, just sometimes "grumpy"! IIRC If I Remember Correctly. |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: Rasener Date: 25 May 04 - 04:26 PM You could try ringing South Hill Park where the event was held in Bracknell, talk to a person called William Trev??????? or Ron McCallister They may well be able to go back through their records. Simon Chatterton at south hill park reckons it was before Ian Anderson. |

Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: GUEST Date: 27 May 04 - 08:08 AM The festival in those days was run by Don Morgan. Try him. |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 27 May 04 - 09:22 AM Don't you dare forget Lady Sarah ! PS do you know how I could contact Don (or was it Dan, never was sure) |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: Rasener Date: 27 May 04 - 09:46 AM If Sarah Morgan is associated with Don Morgan then you can contact on this number Contact — Sarah Morgan, (+44) (0)1264 738629 |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: GUEST,MCP Date: 27 May 04 - 10:08 AM IIRC Don died a few years ago (long separated from Sarah). But Sarah should be a good bet for this. Mick |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: Herga Kitty Date: 27 May 04 - 03:11 PM MCP/Mick A few years? Don turned up at the last booking you and did in Seaford, and sang with his current partner Di. Sarah is now married to Steve Jordan, and both perform at Whitby Folk Week, even though they live in Hampshire. |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: GUEST,MCP Date: 27 May 04 - 04:12 PM HK - I remember when I last saw him, but I thought I'd been told a few years later that he'd died. (I apologise for the exaggeration if that isn't so). Mick |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: Raggytash Date: 27 May 04 - 06:54 PM I spoke to Sarah this afternoon and she kindly gave me a contact number for Don, I hope he is still alive and kicking |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: GUEST,MCP Date: 27 May 04 - 06:59 PM More than glad to hear it. Mick |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: Cats Date: 30 May 04 - 07:14 AM Think they might have been the Macgoragoles - or something along those lines. Stunning singers. |
Subject: RE: Bracknell Progamme 1980-81 From: Rasener Date: 30 May 04 - 07:26 AM Kate & Anna McGarrigle has already been suggested but it doesn't seem to be the answer. |
