Subject: What are you doing tonight?
From: Rasener
Date: 29 May 04 - 03:04 PM

It's Saturday May the 29th 2004.

I just wondered what you are all doing.

I was on the computer creating this thread, but my daughters are insisting that I play Bingo with them.

Ah well its one way of having the telly off and playing the music that I like, and supping a glass or two of Chardonnay.

Just lost at bingo :-(

This is so sad

All theses lucky buggers at Cleethorpes.

Mind you one ray of sunshine.
The missus won and she had the choice of waht to do tomorrow.
I had already primed the kids into goin gto cleethorpes.
They convinced the missus that that is wher we should go.
Of course I didn't disagree.
Hope to slip off the beach and see a bit of the folk festival.

Method in my madness - let the missus win and prime the kids. I can't get blamed.

I'm sitting here on the computer. waiting for my hard boiled eggs to cool so I can make them into a Ploughman's and wondering if there's likely to be anything good on telly while I'm eating or if I have to bring my Red Dwarf videos downstairs.

Mind you, I might well do that anyway! :-))

I am reviewing CDs by singer/songwriters wanting to release material under the UNLaBELLED label (Robb Johnson's umbrella label for singwriters). And I have come across one very good young lady (Tracy Curts), and an amazing, absolute bastard, wonderful bloke called Mike Scott. Mike already has two albums out (Badword and Bunches), can't wait for his third. He is like Tom Paxton with extra guts and Loudon Wainwright III with more technique and sensitivity. Find his stuff and listen to it!

'Tonight' is 'last night' now, and I was at Wombwell (near Barnsley, UK) where Roy Bailey (just being Roy), an excellent young 3-piece tune band whose name I can say but not spell (sounds like 'Iscador' but, in that quaint celtic way, probably spelt Usquaeadheairr or similar! LOL), the wonderful, wonderful Kathryn Roberts (what a singer!)and Sean Lakeman (flash git guitar player - I could chop his fingers off I'm so jealous), and (at a folk-gig mark you) a great Reggae band, 'Lion Train' who had them rockin'.

A great night preceded by a very enjoyable singaround led by Padgett.

See what I miss by not having access to my ISP on weekends??? Now I'm in the Library on a Sunday morning, recovering from last night's fun and frolics, which consisted of dusting and vacuming my flat in anticipation of my roommate's return.

High-flying, aren't I?

Ellenpoly:

My latest- 164th to present muse...

Sonnet 30/05/04                                       CMXIV

Would I might fall asleep, with you within
These arms that long to hold love. Can I find
The will to stay awake, when dreams are blind
To reasons I can never your heart win?
In dream, you remain near: Hope is not sin,
To want to touch you. I'll not hide desire
To trace your curves, and kiss: I do not tire
Of passions that might let future begin.
Yet, dream is not enough: I need to know
That you have smile, and peace in mind, to give
My own heart ease. What can I send, to earn
What I would prize? How can I think to show
What dream of you now means? My hopes can live,
And all of future will to light return.

At the moment I'm eating vanilla yoghurt with fruit (yummy, & I might refill the bowl, it's getting a bit low), listening to the CD Santa Micca sent me (Some Singing from The Barn at Towersey Aug 2003), having just listened to El Greko's demo CD.

Before that I was having dinner with friends (Thai & we successfully avoided nasty hot chilli stuff) in a restaurant full of the audience who had just listened to 3 hours of the best artists in Sydney & surrounds (some of them were eating Thai, too, we filled the room!!)

The concert was a fund-raising tribute to the late Chris Kempster, one of the lights of the folk revival of the early 50's.

(Bowl has been refilled!) Chris wrote his first tune, to a Henry Lawson poem, when he was 16 & the resulting song has become a classic & I had tears in my eyes listening to the crowd of artists on the stage & the audience of 160 singing this song.

The whole night was magic.

Long day yesterday...first time playing with a sort of band for a benefit BBQ. Having played guitar for over 40 years I finally broke down and bought a strap on the way there, as the stage was too small for any but the autoharp player to have a chair. We only practice once/twice a month so were pretty ragged at first. But we eventually got into the swing of it, and since we do not take ourselves very seriously, everybody, including a surprisingly appreciative audience, had a good time. No money changed hands (after all, this was for a good cause...buying up greenspace) but collectively we managed to get around a substantial amount of food, wine and beer. We played for nearly 4 hours, w/a couple of short breaks, and it involved a 2-hr round trip for me. By the time I got home at 9 I was ready to watch a little mindless TV and head for bed.   Today is do some gardening/read book in hammock day...and if my fingers will take it, do a little porch picking...it's a beautiful day.

Last night I was at Richard Bridges barbecue - great night, thanks Richard. If you didn't get there you missed a good one but that meant there was more booze for the rest of us.

No offence Richard, but there was one place I would have rather been....

Thanking God that I'm not in England.

Working in the North Sea, drinking coffee and getting into my new Dave Gibb CD's that I bought at his concert. In about 20mins I'm off to the gym to stop me getting fat.
Then off to the smoking loungew for a few coffee's and a few fags then off to bed for work at 6am to 6pm
Night Night

Well I WAS going to have a quiet night in, but the next door neighbours put paid to that. So then I was going to have a nice day out at a pagan festival but the dicky ticker put paid to that.

I'm now under orders to 'take it easy, get some rest and don't do anything strenuous or else I get to enjoy hospital food tomorrow as well.

Last night (since it is now morning) we had a picnic! Actually, it was an all day kind of picnic. We had 10 people come....played quite a bit of volleyball, played my fiddle, watched the kids play, talked with friends, got to visit with my aunt who was up for the weekend...it was a GORGEOUS DAY!!! Lots of laughter and relaxation....and ice cream on the way home!   :) Can't wait to do it again!

Well, YESTERDAY night I had a bi-annual get-together with beautiful friends I don't see much of, and that was a big deal, just to sit around and talk, but it left me feeling vaguely embarrassed at how much attention I want from people on such occasions. Tonight I'm going to see if I can do some little house-fixing chore to get to cross it off a long list, and hope to get lucky with my wife if we can outlast the kids. We ran them around at the waterfront park. There may be hope. Two bi-annual events in one weekend. Wow.

Petting my dog. I was away on a 3 day gig and he missed me.

Also because he just finished barking his head off at a bear on our front lawn, tearing open the neighbour's garbage bag.
