Subject: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: Ellenpoly Date: 03 Jun 04 - 10:34 AM OK, I can't remember who the heck started talking about spagetti on one of these threads...but now I'm hooked. So just to share the joy...got any pasta favorites? Personally I'm fond of Conchiglie because it holds sauce so well. But I'm a sucker for Angel Hair...my vote for the most sensuous of all pastas. ..xx..e |

Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: Tracey Dragonsfriend Date: 03 Jun 04 - 10:57 AM Ellenpoly - I wasn't really advertising deliberately. I just automatically pasted in the same standard sig from my email that I use everywhere. It points to my "hobby" website. Sorry if it's a no-no, though I do donate a % of profits to Mudcat, for any orders from Mudcatters. I'll try & remember not to! Never considered pyrographing pasta... bet I could do it on lasagna, too! Mmmmm... lasagna (again!) Sorry Tracey (see, I remembered!) |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: KateG Date: 03 Jun 04 - 11:02 AM Lasagna, fussili, cappellini, tortellini,....... I could go on an on, and get rounder and rounder. Pasta is definately one of the worlds great foods. That and chocolate, and ice cream, and.... Food, glorious food! (See I knew we could make it musical) |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: Tracey Dragonsfriend Date: 03 Jun 04 - 11:07 AM Oh no, now you mentioned ICE CREAM!! Glad I'm now on my way home, but there goes my resolution for salad tonight... Cheers Tracey |

Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: Ellenpoly Date: 03 Jun 04 - 11:53 AM Ah, Blackcatter, it was YOU! Mystery solved. Now I can go back to my plate of pasta. (Elbow at the moment, in a nice cold tuna/veg salad.Yum!) BB-You mentioned shrimp? Watch it bucko, I'll be on the next flight out! (Monster Fish Fancier)..xx..e PS-I kinda thought it went without saying that fresh is always preferred. (Not that I'd turn up my nose even at spagettio's if I were stranded on a desert island.) |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: mack/misophist Date: 03 Jun 04 - 11:54 AM Can't choose between white lasagna (heavy on the Romano) and real spaghetti ala carbonara, the kind where the only ingredients are pasta, eggs, and bacon. |

Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: Once Famous Date: 03 Jun 04 - 12:16 PM No one is mentioning on how well the Asians do pasta. For example, the Chinese and use a wide rice noodle called chow foon or chow fun. Thai restaurants also use this wide rice noodle which is so creamy deliscious in a dish called pad se ewe. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: Ellenpoly Date: 03 Jun 04 - 12:19 PM MG, you're absolutely right! I gained a whole new appreciation for the art of pasta while living in Hawaii with it's Asian majority. Here in England, the treat to end one's evening with is curry...in Hawaii, it's rice noodles. Ain't diversity grand?..xx..e |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: Blackcatter Date: 03 Jun 04 - 12:21 PM You know - I heard that Marco Polo introduced pasta to the Chinese . . . or something like that. By the way - ever notice when you break spaghetti in half, it actually breaks into three pieces? Richard Feynman the physicist tried to figure out a formula for that, but wasn't able to come up with anything in the time he spent on it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: GUEST,Bill Kennedy Date: 03 Jun 04 - 02:06 PM I haven't found it in years, but there was an Italian variety called Marguerite or Margherite, like skinny lasagna noodles, about 1/4 inch wide, with wavy edges like lasagna, molto delicioso! but not commercially available anywhere anymore, as far as I know, and who has the time to make it fresh, ...I used to roll out and fill and cut the ravioli with my grandma, sigh! 'mangia, mangia, figlio'.... Margherite was my mothers favorite, tried hard to find some before she died last year, no luck. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: open mike Date: 03 Jun 04 - 02:09 PM anything with pesto on it!!yum yum basil... or is it the pine nuts that are the magic ingredient? esp. angel hair and veggie (cheese) ravioli my kids used to call them pillows... |

Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: Miken Date: 03 Jun 04 - 05:03 PM Wow, Emma . I'm with you!! Also I like carbonara, and pasta putanesca being partial to spiciness! All with extra parmesana reggiano grated over |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: polaitaly Date: 03 Jun 04 - 05:29 PM Bill Kennedy, the kind of pasta you are talking of seems to be pappardelle , or tagliatelle. They are great with the meat sauce. But my favourites are spaghetti aglio olio e peperoncino, spaghetti with garlic, olive oil and very hot chili pepper. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: polaitaly Date: 03 Jun 04 - 05:37 PM Oh, and I forgot to say: to break spaghetti in two ( or three!!!) before cookin them ... my God... that's horrible ! Pure cruelty! You should cook spaghetti all in one piece. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: harpmaker Date: 03 Jun 04 - 05:57 PM I like spaghetti (broke in two) with a tin of Hienz tomato soup! Ellenpoly, I like threads with blicky links. I looked at Tracy Dragonsfriend's blicky, I enjoyed and admired what she does. You dont have to click on them if you dont want to. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 03 Jun 04 - 06:01 PM I have yet to find a 'noodle' (Pasta or other) that I didn't like... |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: Tracey Dragonsfriend Date: 04 Jun 04 - 03:15 AM Well, the lasagna was lovely, but now I have a hankering for spaghetti! And tortellini, and angelhair, and... now see what you've done? :) Thanks, harpmaker - I'm glad you liked my pyrography work. It's great fun to do! And you can listen to music while you work. But I guess ellenpoly raised a good point... I wasn't "advertising" as such, and really just forgot to remove a standard link from my automatic sig, but what is the rule here on Mudcat? Is it offensive to add such a link? Or is it useful & interesting, especially as I will donate some profit to Mudcat from any Mudcatter orders? (Although I guess you couldn't have known that from the site - maybe I should add a Mudcat link & note about that.) Or what? I just don't know... Cheers Tracey |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: Ellenpoly Date: 04 Jun 04 - 03:58 AM Padre, you've done me in! I dreamt about your dish last night, and woke up with more than the usual drool on my pillow... ..xx..e (Tracy, I haven't a clue if there are "rules" about what you can post. I really didn't mind, especially since it is a lovely website. I just didn't understand until you explained, why it was there. I kept looking for the pasta!) |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: Tracey Dragonsfriend Date: 04 Jun 04 - 04:22 AM Yes, I can now clearly see the pitfalls in this thread... endless pasta consumption! I can see the pounds piling on even now. Ellenpoly - aha! Now I understand! I thought I'd broken an unwritten rule of Mudcat there, and offended people deeply. I feel better now, and I think I'll resume my normal sig, website & all, for readers to look at or not, as they please! And here's the BBC's Best Pasta, as a better pasta link! Cheers Tracey Dragonsfriend Scorch's Pyrography |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: Sooz Date: 04 Jun 04 - 04:38 AM Am I the only person around here who doesn't like pasta? Bread and potatoes are my chosen carbohydrates because they actually have a flavour of their own! |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: Ellenpoly Date: 04 Jun 04 - 04:43 AM That's just fine, Sooz. As I said, diversity is the true spice of life. But then, why on earth did you post here??? ..xx..e |

Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: GUEST,Bill Kennedy Date: 04 Jun 04 - 09:52 AM Polaitaly - not pappardelle or tagliatelle, I've had those, but Margherite! http://www.poiatti.it/13dettaglio.asp?p=p there is another stuffed pasta called margherite - which means daisy, and a larger version called sunflower, girasole, but these are the flat noodles shown in the photo with a wavy edge, why they are called daisies I don't know, except the petals in a daisy overlap each other, up and down, like the wave in the pasta, even though in this case it't not round |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: Blackcatter Date: 04 Jun 04 - 10:11 AM Sooz - I love both bread and potatoes as well. Couscous as well. As for advertising, I there aren't any hard and fast rules around here. From the FAQ: We don't cater to chain letters or non-music advertising, and we expect people to use moderation when they advertise music-related things. Most of us who have webpages that might be of some interest (especially if they are related either to music or at least to a thread in the BS section) share a blue clicky with everyone once in awhile. I wouldn't overdo it, and having it as part of your signature is probably fine. PM Joe Offer if you have any questions. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: GUEST,MMario Date: 04 Jun 04 - 10:29 AM when I was growing up - tortellini just was not commercially available - except for this one tiny mom and pop store a couple towns over where the Gramma occasionally sold a batch - (if she liked you - and she felt like it and if it wasn't the 2nd tuesday or a month with an "r" in it). *MY* Nonni made fresh tortellini - heaven on earth! it took us YEARS to get her recipe out of her - and then of course there was the problem of getting the "right" ingredients. Do you know how hard it was to get mortedella in a small New England town 30 years ago? (or for that matter in rural NY *NOW*) The fun part of course was stuffing them - we would have a contest to see who could enclose the most filling in the smallest wrapper. Also contests to see who could do the most in a minute. |

Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Kind of Pasta? From: jimmyt Date: 04 Jun 04 - 02:31 PM my favorite is simple pasta either angelhair, spaghetti or even one of the wider noodles with a sauce of fresh tomatoes, basil, roasted garlic and olive oil lightly sauteed right before it is put over the pasta. A very simple common favrite in almost any resturant or sidewalk cafe in Italy , cheap and universally fantastic. |
