Subject: BS: Ben Chifley was right From: Hrothgar Date: 04 Jun 04 - 05:07 AM Chifley, in the House of Representatives, 18 June, 1941, during the last months of Menzies' first Prime Ministership: "I deprecate attempts by representatives of the Government here and in Great Britain, and by a section of the press, to prevent criticism of what are obviously grave errors of judgment by saying that such criticism is evidence of a lack of patriotism ... No opposition which does its duty to the people can allow a Governemnt, or a group of persons, to stride blunderingly into error in seven-league boots, and then seek to hide behind a smokescreen of patriotism, or to deflect criticism from themselves by talking of the gallantry of our soldiers." Nothing changes, does it? |

Subject: RE: BS: Ben Chifley was right From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 05 Jun 04 - 09:57 AM & not just in Oz. Coverups have been reported from all Coalition of the Willing countries. Maybe if Pig-Iron Bob or another of his heroes had said it, our Little Johhny would follow his example. I added a new cartoon to my collection this week, Little Johnny is kneeling beside his bed praying & his teddy has Bob's eyebrows!! sandra ps. he is praying for another event that will take the public's mind off his troubles "If you can't give me a Tampa, give me a honeymoon cruise ship" (bearing a Royal couple) |
Subject: RE: BS: Ben Chifley was right From: GUEST,John O'Lennaine Date: 05 Jun 04 - 10:22 AM "...all Coalition of the Willing countries." I beg your pardon Sandra, shouldn't that read "Coalition of the Cretinous countries"? John |
Subject: RE: BS: Ben Chifley was right From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 06 Jun 04 - 10:12 AM Is "The Self-named Coalition of the Willing' a better phrase? Or would 'The Coalition of the Willing to Invade other Countries cos We Don't Like Their Government & Want Their Oil' sound better? I wonder who invented the plithy litte phrase? & did they copywrite it & do they get royalties each time it is used. sandra |
