It is almost impossible to imagine what the world might have become without him. 1099 - First Crusade reaches the walls of Jerusalem. Hmmmm. Maybe it wasn't a good idea. 1776 - Continental Congress delegate Richard Henry Lee of Virginia moved for a resolution "That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown . . ." That is, of course the anniversary of the start of US Withholding Tax in 1943. I'm sure all you Brits will be celebrating Malvinas Day this comming Friday - it's one of the few National Holidays in Argentina. But all that really counts is if there's an anniversary of something related to Folk Music. I happen to have a bit of a collection of such. Eg, Happy Birthday to Mississippi bluesist Skip (Nehemiah) James b6/9/1902 in Bentonia MS (died Oct 3, 1969) But not so happy that 6/9/1798 is the anniversary of the unsuccessful attack of Irish rebels on the town of Arklow. There may be a song about that rebellion. Or two. Or four. |
