John Howard is using our money to reward corporations who reduce greenhouse gas emissions and do suitably progressive environmental things. He's not, however, going to join the rest of the civilised world is setting and enforcing greenhouse gas emission targets. It sounds to me like the little fellow can sense an electoral turnaround on the wind and he's covering his ass just as fast as he can. I wonder if Peter Garrett has got him running?

Yes, I'd say Peter Garrett has thrown a real scare into him. This would be another pathetic attempt on his part to say what he thinks the voters want to hear. The only green about him would be the slime he crawled out of.

Hey, now I get to use that description I heard of him a couple of weeks ago on the subject of gay marriage:

...narrow-minded, blinkered, backward thinking little sycophant!

Gotta love it!

Has anyone else noticed the ferocity with which the Sydney Daily Telegraph has been attacking Peter Garrett?

He must be throwing some sort of fright into them.

John

BTW, I don't usually read the Tele, I've been getting it for the Harry Potter pins.

Election whispers surround environment boost
June 15, 2004 - 1:31PM; Sydney Morning Herald

Prime Minister John Howard has revealed details of a major environment package, promising more money for renewable energy and measures to encourage homes to use more solar power. The pre-election package also includes excise cuts for farmers and all off-road users of diesel fuel, and heating fuel such as oil and kerosene. Mr Howard says the changes will deliver energy investment for Australia's energy and resources sector, which earns more than $24 billion a year from energy exports.

...Speculation is mounting that federal parliament has entered its final two sitting weeks before the calling of an election, with the announcement of the environment package being widely interpreted as further indication the government is now in early election mode.
Opposition family and community services spokesman Wayne Swan said the government was now playing Santa Claus on the eve of the election after playing Scrooge for nine years.

"What we know at the moment is they are spending $100 million of taxpayers' money on blatant political advertising," Mr Swan told reporters. "Peter Costello's got that vacuum cleaner down at the Treasury, sucking the money out, taking it over to Liberal Party headquarters and producing ads to push the Liberal Party's cause.

"You'd have to say that with this unprecedented spend they are gearing up for an early election and they are expecting taxpayers to pay for their political tactics." Opposition immigration spokesman Stephen Smith said he thought an early election was on the way.
"I've always been at the early end of market expectation - my entry in the sweepstake has been Saturday the 4th of September," Mr Smith told reporters. "I suspect it will be sometime September, October, November."

....Meanwhile, Prime Minister John Howard has told his party room today that an election would be held when the time was right. "The prime minister opened his remarks to the joint party room saying that there was no further information on when the election will be held.."

The sooner he goes properly green, in a box 6 foot under, the better I'll be pleased.

What we need is a princess willing to kiss him, so he turns back into a toad. I suppose the green element has been implied for a long time, we're just not seeing the yellow because it's filtered out by the Royal blue. Jack Halyard.
