Subject: RE: Chord Req: For Matt McGinn Songs From: GUEST,Tommy Date: 16 Jun 04 - 07:47 AM I doubt if any had more than two and a half chords. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: For Matt McGinn Songs From: GUEST,Van Date: 16 Jun 04 - 12:48 PM To the best of my recollection he sang a capello; if you wish to treat his songs differently it's your job to work out the chords. (I've only seen him live - might be different on discs) If you can play whatever instrument his stuff isn't too difficult to figure out. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: For Matt McGinn Songs From: Dita Date: 16 Jun 04 - 02:53 PM The book McGinn of the Calton has no chords. However I have a book from 1964 of 25 of Matt's songs with chords. As you are not a member I can't contact you. If you join we can PM each other, or you can leave an email or postal contact here and I will send you a copy. Cheers, John |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: For Matt McGinn Songs From: Dickmac Date: 17 Jun 04 - 05:18 PM I too have a 1964 publication "Scottish Songs of Today" by Matt McGinn which has 26 songs. It's probably the same book as noted above. Either John or I can't count. Many of the songs are nothis better known works but let me know if there is any specific song you are looking for. Dick |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: For Matt McGinn Songs From: davyp Date: 24 Feb 05 - 03:09 PM I'd just like to know if dita can confirm that the book they're talking about is the same one as Dickmac because I'm struggling for McGinn chords myself! Davy |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: For Matt McGinn Songs From: Susanne (skw) Date: 26 Dec 07 - 09:00 PM Sad, Shaneo? I remember it as a celebration of his discovery of the beauty of the Borders and thus his homeland. Oh, and - isn't it slightly daring to list Matt McGinn under 'Irish songs'? |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: For Matt McGinn Songs From: GUEST,Jim I Date: 26 Dec 07 - 10:22 PM If that's not strange enough what about 'Caledonia'? |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: For Matt McGinn Songs From: Shaneo Date: 27 Dec 07 - 06:28 AM I'm branching out into general folk. trying to help lads with chords, |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: For Matt McGinn Songs From: Susanne (skw) Date: 27 Dec 07 - 07:15 PM Opening a new branch might help :-). Anyway, thanks for the site. I need to check it further some time. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: For Matt McGinn Songs From: Tattie Bogle Date: 27 Dec 07 - 07:21 PM If you had been around when Matt was alive, apparently he was an accompanist's nightmare (no, he didn't play himself but got others to accompany some of his songs). He would start in one key, so they'd just worked out what chords to use, then he'd stop and make a comment or tell a joke, and resume same song, but in a different key, so you either had to know lots of chords, or be very slick with the capo! |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: For Matt McGinn Songs From: GUEST,Katrina Date: 27 Jun 11 - 11:19 AM Hi, I'm interested in learning the chords to "I'm looking for a job" by Matt McGinn but the internet has nothing? My dad is a big fan and I wanted to learn it, to play at his birthday for him. I know they are probably very simple to figure out but I'm not a pro guitar player obviously and short of asking my Da for the chords, I'm a bit stuck. Any help much appreciated. Katrina |

Send me a PM. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: For Matt McGinn Songs From: GUEST Date: 30 Aug 12 - 06:16 PM For some reason I didn't see this reply at the time and I've missed it completely? I only noticed it on my search again for this info? I would still really like to know the chords for this song. I'm still a complete a novice, I own a classical guitar and I know some basic chords, but I would love to learn to play something that means something to me. I appreciate your help at the time, and I wish that I'd been aware because this has meant a lot to me. I hope you can help. Thanks. Katrina |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: For Matt McGinn Songs From: Jack Campin Date: 30 Aug 12 - 06:46 PM The tune is derived from "Lord Randal's Bride" - maybe the chords to that would work? |
