Subject: Lookin for a job From: pete clansfolk@msn.com Date: 02 Mar 97 - 04:50 PM has anyone got the words for the following song, word something like chorus:- I'm looking for a job with a sky high pay, three day week and a two hour day Maybe it's because I'm inclined that way, but I never did like being idle. Any help would be handy, (failing the words, anybody know if there's a job going with the above specs?) cheers Pete clansfolk@msn.com |
Subject: Lyr Add: I'M LOOKING FOR A JOB (Matt McGinn) From: Anne Cormack Date: 03 Mar 97 - 07:15 AM Pete, Sorry, I don't know of a job like Matt McGinn's, but I do have the words for the song!! I'M LOOKING FOR A JOB (Matt McGinn) Chorus: I'm looking for a job with a sky-high pay A four day week and a two hour day S'maybe it's because I'm inclined that way But I never did like being idle! V1 I don't want glory and I don't want fame I left school with a modest aim I went to the Labour Exchange for work Here is what I sang to the wee broo clerk V2 Now that, says he, is a rare wee song To come frae a lad so big and strong Through the door on the left and take this card You can sing to the gaffer down in Harland's yard V3 I sang it to the gaffer but he thought me daft I've never even heard such a horse's laugh He gathered around him all his men And as one big choir, they sang then V4 Their voices rang o'er the riverside And it became the song of the Clyde Its words were heard the whole world round And it was known as the Clydeside Sound This came from the book "McGinn of the Calton" Enjoy! Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm Looking for a Job (Matt McGinn) From: GUEST,jim bainbridge Date: 06 Oct 21 - 05:13 AM re the 'Westminster' verse, I added this verse to the original verses about 20 years ago, while running song sessions in Glentrool, Scotland. I thought it needed another verse & I'm sure Matt would have approved. I put it on a CD 'Lights on the River' in 2004- the singer on youtube has it right although I've inflated the 50 grand up to 90 grand in the ensuing years! I have heard a verse with a similar verse about Holyrood but don't know where that came from.... 'I've travelled all around this land I've found a job that pays 90 grand I do no work and I pay no rent See me, I'm a member of Parliament' |
