Subject: BS: What to engrave on wedding band? From: Marion Date: 16 Jul 04 - 01:55 PM No, not that kind of wedding band. They can just get tattoos. But my sister is fishing for ideas on what to engrave on a couple of wedding rings. Does anyone know of any traditional mottoes to use - or have any cool new ideas? Thanks, Marion |
Subject: RE: BS: What to engrave on wedding band? From: SINSULL Date: 16 Jul 04 - 01:58 PM All of the traditional engravings I have seen bear an uncanny resemblance to the scribblings found on restroom walls - Joe and Carol forever, that sort of thing. Why not just the date of the marriage and your names? |

Subject: RE: BS: What to engrave on wedding band? From: open mike Date: 16 Jul 04 - 04:45 PM The rings consists of two hands holding between them, or presenting, a heart. Over the heart is a design representing a crown or fleur de lis. The phrase or posy, that usually accompanies the ring is: "Let love and friendship reign". The heart symbolized the love he yearned to share... the crown his undying loyalty... and the hands, friendship because it is the foundation of love and loyalty and holds the two together. and in my post above the "This circle has no end.." is a seperate entry. |

Subject: RE: BS: What to engrave on wedding band? From: Bo Vandenberg Date: 17 Jul 04 - 05:58 AM This ring and no other was made by Elves Who'd pawn their own mother to grab it themselves If Broken or Busted it cannot be remade, If found send to Sorhead (postage prepaid). Bored of the Rings National Lampoon. Seriously, a friend of mine was just showing me his great grandparents rings, that were now serving as rings for his marriage. He values the date on the ring and the names of his grand parents. I don't think he could buy a ring that would mean more to him. You might never have offspring but I think I'd like the message: or God keep our Love My own preference is to not claim the highest achievements like "love forever" as if it is easy. Rather I'd ask help to get there, or a reminder to the wearer of the necessary elements ie.. trust, hope, loyalty etc.... sigurd |

Subject: RE: BS: What to engrave on wedding band? From: catspaw49 Date: 16 Aug 04 - 11:06 PM Inside of Karen's, I wanted something that would remind her of me so we engraved: There was a young fellow from Sparta. A really magnificent farter. On the strength of one bean He'd fart "God Save the Queen," And Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. He could vary, with proper persuasion, His fart to suit any occasion. He could fart like a flute, Like a lark, like a lute, This highly fartistic Caucasian. This sparkling young farter from Sparta, His fart for no money would barter. He could roar from his rear Any scene from Shakespeare, Or Gilbert and Sullivan's Mikado. Nobody could play the classics finer, As he showed me one day in the diner. I had a bagel with lox while played from his buttocks: Chopin's Etude #12 in C-minor. He'd fart a gavotte for a starter, And fizzle a fine serenata. He could play on his anus The Coriolanus: Oof, boom,er-tum,tootle, yum tah-dah! He was great in the Christmas Cantata, He could double-stop fart the Toccata, He'd boom from his ass Bach's B-Minor Mass, And in counterpoint, La Traviata. Spurred on by a very high wager With an envious German named Bager, He'd proceeded to fart The complete oboe part Of a Haydn Octet in B-major. His reportoire ranged from classics to jazz, He achieved new effects with bubbles of gas. With a good dose of salts He could whistle a waltz Or swing it in razzamatazz. His basso profundo with timbre so rare He rendered quite often, with power to spare. But his great work of art, His fortissimo fart, He saved for the Marche Militaire. One day he was dared to perform The William Tell Overture Storm, But naught could dishearten Our spirited Spartan, For his fart was in wonderful form. It went off in capital style, And he farted it through with a smile, Then, feeling quite jolly, He tried the finale, Blowing double-stopped farts all the while. The selection was tough, I admit, But it did not dismay him one bit, Then, with his ass thrown aloft He suddenly coughed... And collapsed in a shower of shit. His bunghole was blown back to Sparta, Where they buried the rest of our farter, With a gravestone of turds Inscribed with the words: "To the Fine Art of Farting, A Martyr." It's a really BIG ring............... Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: What to engrave on wedding band? From: SINSULL Date: 16 Aug 04 - 11:10 PM Like the one around Uranus? Shame on you, Spaw. I'll bet Karen's ring is engraved with "Love you, forever" or some such nonsense. |

Subject: RE: BS: What to engrave on wedding band? From: Big Al Whittle Date: 17 Aug 04 - 02:05 PM I always liked from Shakespeare Look how my ring encompasseth thy finger Even so thy breast encloseth my poor heart: Wear both of them, for both of them are thine. On the other hand Ricahard 3 says it to Lady Anne while he planning to do her in! Whatever you have put, I hope your sister and her chosen one have lovely happy life together. |
Subject: RE: BS: What to engrave on wedding band? From: Scoville Date: 17 Aug 04 - 10:36 PM [no jokes here] For my high school graduation--since I didn't like my high school much and definitely didn't want to spend a load on a ring commemorating it--my parents bought me a silver ring that was a reproduction of a sixteenth-century one from France. It has little primitive flower engraved on it and says "Por Tous Jours" (for always) on it. Simple and direct but not entirely predictable. I always thought it would make an excellent wedding ring, in the off chance that I ever need one. |

From: GUEST,Patricia Date: 01 Apr 05 - 02:16 AM When I met my fiance I fell for him a lot faster then I had expected. i was so afraid of how i was feeling when i finally told him all that came out was "I fell yo" now it is engraved on my ring. It makes me smile every time I think about it. Tell your sister to think of something simple that she once said to her fiance that would make him smile and confuse everyone else. |
Subject: RE: BS: What to engrave on wedding band? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 01 Apr 05 - 02:38 AM Weelittledrummer - I beg to differ. Subsequent events have shown us that Richard III did not 'do in' his wife, nor the Princes in the Tower. That's all Tudor propaganda - history written by the winners. The truth was published shortly after the death of the last Tudor, Elizabeth I. As for rings... I favour 'one and only', because I sure as hell ain't doing that again! LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: What to engrave on wedding band? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 01 Apr 05 - 04:09 PM Do people really engrave things on wedding rings these days? Hardly seems necessary. There's a saying about "gilding the lily" which seems fitting somehow |

Subject: RE: BS: What to engrave on wedding band? From: Peace Date: 01 Apr 05 - 08:09 PM I would suggest a generic name in the even the marriage fails. Make it a guy/gal type name like Lee, Toby, Chris, Jessie or Sue (as Johnny Cash about that one). Keep things simple and plan for the future. |
