I don't have my satchel with me just now, but I will check to see if any of these are there. You might consider picking up the Furey Brothers and Davey Arthur Songbook. First check the vendors that have an agreement with Mudcat, you can find them on the Main Page, I think by clicking on the Banjo, to see if they have it. Ordering there helps support the Mudcat. If they don't have it, go to www.Elderly.Com. You can mail order it from Elderly Instruments.

All the best,

Mick

Got a bit of a kick a few months ago while playing at wedding in Newcastle. I was singing "When You Were Sweet Sixteen" and there was Davy Arthurs mother dancing away to it!!

Elson,

At least Mountains of Mourne are in the database (upper right corner for search), Night Ferry has been posted to this Forum (go to Forum search then search for Night ferry). I think I'll add October song next week.

Subject: Lyr Add: OCTOBER SONG (Robin Williamson)
From: Wolfgang
Date: 12 Nov 98 - 11:48 AM

You're to blame, Trish (honestly: I looked for Tara hill, but with no success), that I saw again my claim I could provide October Song. Here it is:

October Song
(Words and Music: Robin Williamson, then with the Incredible String Band)

1. I'll sing you this October song,
oh, there is no song before it.
The words and tune are none of my own,
for my joys and sorrows bore it.
Beside the sea. The brambly briars
in the still of evening,
birds fly out behind the sun,
and with them I'll be leaving.

2. The fallen leaves that jewel the ground,
they know the art of dying,
and leave with joy their glad gold hearts,
in the scarlet shadows lying.
When hunger calls my footsteps home,
the morning follows after,
I swim the seas within my mind,
and the pine-trees love green laughter.

3. I used to search for happiness,
and I used to follow pleasure,
but I found a door behind my mind,
and that's the greatest treasure.
For rulers like to lay down laws,
and rebels like to break them,
and the poor priests like to walk in chains,
and God likes to forsake them.

4. I met a man whose name was Time,
and he said: "I must be going,"
but just how long ago that was,
I have no way of knowing.
Sometimes I want to murder time,
sometimes when my heart's aching,
but mostly I just stroll along,
the path that he is taking.

Has been recorded by more than one folk group

Wolfgang

Elson,
I know you can get Big Ships and Night Ferry from here Irish@prof even though they are not listed under the songs. You may be able to sheet music to some of the others
Cheers
Mick

There is a version of 'Lovers' in one of the Soodlum Irish song/cassette books (as I recall). Is this the version that the Fureys sing? I'm happy to post the tune if this is correct.

Regards, John

I'll be there        The Furey's and Davey Arthur        (Capo: 3)

(A4)I walk in silence
By her (F)tiny (G)feet
To take brim roses
Where I am (A4)finding leaves

(A4)And I think of her
By-life, (F)stand and weep
A (G)young heart
That I (Em)dare so (A4)deep

And in (F)winter I will be (C)there
When the (Dm)fields are cold and (A4)bare
And I'll stand there and share my life with you
And I'll (F)take away the (C)snow
So (Dm)young spring flowers can (A4)grow
And in summer sun and rain I'm there with you

(A4)I leave you now
But (F)I'll (G)return
To this peaceful place
Where no (A4)heart can burn
And when autumn leaves
They fall (F)all (G)around
I return, once (A4)again

And in (F)winter I will be (C)there
When the (Dm)fields are cold and (A4)bare
And I'll stand there and share my life with you
And I'll (F)take away the (C)snow
So (Dm)young spring flowers can (A4)grow
And in summer sun and rain I'm there with you

(A4)I leave you now
But (F)I'll (G)return
To this peaceful place
Where no (A4)heart can burn
And when autumn leaves
They fall (F)all (G)around
I return, once (A4)again

And I'll (F)take away the (C)snow
So (Dm)young spring flowers can (A4)grow
And in summer sun and rain I'm there with you

Whoever was asking about backing track "Annie's song" Davey Arthur, I have been after that track for years. I wrote to the Fureys manager enquiring if it was available anywhere, I got a very short sharp and rude response. I have been a Fureys fan for many years, he claims Davey only sings 2 songs with the Fureys and if I was a fan I would know that! Also there are no backing tracks for Davey Arthur and there never will be! The best way to get the track is download AUDACITY, with that programme you can remove the vocal from any track, it's not strictly legal but, getting that kind of response, what the hell!! Jonjo.

Incidentally The Fureys with Davy Arthur are appearing just down the road from me, at The Robin 2 R&B club in Bilston west midlands on Nov 28th Tickets £17.50, advance £18.50 on the door
