There is a bloke in North Yorkshire who murdered 4 people last week [allegidley], every time he is mentioned on the news, they refer to him as "the former dustman" why?
what has his previous job got to do with anything?

I am a former dustman, but I don't go around killing people.

Are dustmen more likely to be mass murderers?
I doubt it.

Come on, Sir John, its quite straightforward.

Dustmen can be A THREAT.
Doctors can be A THREAT.
School caretakers can be A THREAT.
That guy from somewhere vaguely middle-eastern can be A THREAT, as can that bunch of teenagers.
Asylum seekers can be THREATENING (but probably in a different way).

Prime Ministers and Presidents, on the other hand, never did anyone any harm.

My old man was a dustman, brilliant bloke who never harmed anyone, the ' dust ' killed him in the end.

For the same reason that the news always says things like, "...the alleged murderer, a Vietnam veteran..." or "...Smith, who once fished for perch..." or "...Bush, a former President...." It's supposed to make the person more human. It doesn't, it just makes people think that ALL Vietnam veterans chop people up, or all perch fisherfolk take bribes, or all former Presidents are idiots.

And when he comes home at night he reads the Dustman's News.

I think jOhn's former profession deserves wider recognition. I hope to see his name in the New year's honours list.

That murderer is not a typical dustman.
