re bridge closure? I just heard from a lady at the Chinook Observer that it is not completely closed...one lane is open except maybe when people start out. Getting across can be tedious in one lane though I bet. My guess is going to be a couple of hours..something like 9 a.m. to 11 a.m...mg

Don't you live west of Portland Barbara? Mightened it be easier to head up the coast through Astoria? mg

Ooo, ooo, I am so worried.
Actually, mary, I will be there. It's just that finagle I was telling you about. I have to be in Portland Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon and I am calculating my travel time.
For practical purposes, it means I probably will not be there Friday night, but Mark will.
And, guys, what I heard in mary's post above was that I helped her change her mind about what weekend to hold this, and she would be mightily unhappy (p*ssed) if I failed to show after she swapped the date to accomodate me (and others).
Blessings,
Barbara

PS what date is the Astoria bridge closed to cars, mary?

Hi again. Got some of the shopping done for it. It looks like it will be a smaller group this year, not that it has ever been huge, or will be ever...just too far away..Beautiful weather today. The last few days have been pretty rainy so I hope we made our quota for the season. If you are thinking about coming, please do..you can come for part of the weekend and split the cost. Get together a carpool and the ride will be lovely. We have a great cluster of very musical people and I guarantee we will raise the roof.

Directions: Also see web page.

But in general: Get to Long Beach Peninsula. From north, you can come via Olympia, Raymond, around Willapa Bay. If it is raining pretty hard, it might be easier to go to Longview, Astoria and then Long Beach. From Portland, probably Longview, Astoria, Long Beach. From Longview, if it is a beautiful day, the prettiest drive is through Longview, Cathlamet, Long Beach. Takes you pretty high in the hills though. Have a map with you. There are a couple of confusing places where you can take two ways to get here..either way will be OK but it is best if you have a map or print one from Mapquest. Get to the town of Long Beach. Go through the main part of town, through the stop light (you also pass through Seaview, and it also has a stop light. Long Beach officially starts around MacDonald's. After the town things out, go to Ocean Park, about 8 or so miles. It has a stop light too. Jack's store will be on the right. Great little general store if you need any thing. Flashlight??? Turn right at the stoplight at Jack's. Go about 1 mile or so to where the road t's. Turn left. Go about another mile. If it is daylight, no problem. You will see signs that say Port of Peninsula...it is about 1/4 mile past the Port. the street itself is about 274th I think. Drive really slowly past that point. There will be a white house, and then a stand of trees. Right where those trees are is the camp. It will have a hard to read sign that says Camp Morehead. Turn in and park in the grassy field. Camp should be open around 3. Doesn't hurt to get there early if you can. Watch out for deer and maybe even a bear on the road (mostly deer). If one jumps in front of your car and you miss it, expect a couple more to jump after it.

Pick a cabin, light a fire in the lodge, make tea or whatever. I am not sure what time I am coming..hopefully 3 or so but it might be later. You're only about two miles from beach. Reverse steps, go back to Jack's, stay on same road through stoplight and there is the ocean. Better visit the ocean while you are here.

if it is daylight and you want to see cranberry harvesting, go up Pioneer Road or Cranberry road..someone is probably harvesting. That will put you on Sandridge road. Just go north on Sandridge until you come to the stop sign, go through it and you will be very near the Port of Peninsula and Sunnycamp.

After dark, watch for flashlights etc. tied to the sign. If you get lost, go back to Jack's and ask how to get to Camp Morehead. If you miss the sign, which is easy in the dark, and you come to the Harbor View Motel, you have come just a tiny ways to far. Backtrack slowly..from that driecton camp will be on left side of the road. From Jack's, it will be on right side of the road.

Just call or email me for more information..360-642-8049 or mgarvey@pacifier.com. mg

cool. It's always sort of a gamble out here because it is far from most of the people I personally know. So far we have had a good size group..small but very good singers. I am absolutely crazy about the location..right in the heart of the local oyster industry.

Hope everyone who is thinking of coming signs up soon...I am about to start shopping for staples etc. and it helps to have a good idea of how many. Of course, we just give any unused food to either people attending who might need it or a local food bank so it really isn't a problem.

Pay up now....mg

As I told you via mail, Mary, unfortunately I can't make Sunnycamp this year, but it sounds like you're gonna have a great gathering. I may have rounded up a new recruit for you at the PFS second-Saturday song circle   (try saying that without spitting or whistling!) ;-D last night.   She should be contacting you shortly.

Hope the sun's out for youse guys on Willapa Bay -- just so long as it also blesses San Diego with its presence, since I'll be down there while Sunnycamp's happening.

that is so great..I was just telling someone that I was hoping you could make it but I thought it might be too late in the month given your other plans...I am hoping others from here and there will show up. The music so far has been just great..of course you never know who will show up, like at a potluck And the food has been quite exceptional I think for camp food..the salmon dinners wouldn't have been any better in the Ark..OK, so breakfasts were pretty standard...

But the site itself is magic and a sacred site, if my instincts are correct. It is near the winter campgrounds of Chief Nahcotta. I was by there tonight clocking the distances and it was all misty...and it is really fun to see the cranberry harvest if you never have..just like in the movies...

So anyone who is planning a road trip or anotehr Mudcat journey, thin about it. You actually could hit silver falls in Corvallis Oregon, then Sunnycamp..oh and then Gordon Bok is coming to Seattle, Bellingham and Mount Hood in Oregon. That should be great...I think Silver Falls sells out..I don't have a contact for them but maybe someone else does..or Google and see what you get. mg

People who are likely to attend please PM me asap or email mgarvey@pacifier.com. If we need to change the date we probably can. I just called the camp and it is free.

I do have a conflict on the 9th but I could break it if I had definite commitments. This is such a small camp that a few definite people are crucial to make or break even.

Weekend of the 16th would be great but conflicts with a Gordon Bok concert in Seattle that I might try to get to.

23rd has no conflicts except I heard from L. in Portland that she probably can't mkae it I think. Later in the month is actually better for me but weather is more iffy. I will eliminate last weekend from consideration for that reason.

So let's hear from you..2nd is what is scheduled..conflicts with Silver Falls.

9th is a possibility..bad for me but I'll adjust.

16th is almost for sure out.

23rd is a possibility.

30th is out.

I will call a few people and see if they can make it on the 9th...Silver Falls is always a conflict unfortunately...I am supposed to volunteer at a camp for abused girls the weekend of the 9th but I am also supposed to work...every weekend...

If people have a mailing list of people who would not mind being contacted and would possibly want to go, could you please ask them how the first or second weekend pan out? Other weekends are just out.

Hi Mary,

Just found out that the Corvallis retreat at Silver Falls is that first weekend in October. I would love to come to Sunny Camp but our family has such a wonderful tradition of activities on the way home from Silver Falls--which we've been doing for 20 years or more now--that I wouldn't want to break from it.

Unfortunately, I can't do it the second weekend either. Wah!

Maybe next year.

He's joshing you...for $50 you get a potluck meal on Friday evening (country store nearby if you need to pick up anything)and all meals through brunch Sunday and we all do the cooking...fairly standard camp-type food. Leftover sack lunches or sandwiches. Vegetarian and carnivore options...lots of beans and rice and lentils if you want to cook up your own stuff. It's a small group so cooking so far has not been a problem and we have had some memorable salmon dinners (if the fish are running we will have a salmon dinner with lots of cranberry offerings too). mg
