Geeze, Sorefingers, I'm trying to understand why you harbor such a hate for Wal-Mart. Did they turn down your employment application or something? Catch you lifting their merchandise? Tell me please!

I'll tell you what I have against them!
They move into an area, sell shoddy foreign goods, put local stores out of business, hire people from the stores they destroy, then claim they create jobs, they pay them shit wages, call them associates so they don't have to pay them full benefits, then when the competition is gone they have a monopoly!

I call it the best bargain in town.

I'm going there Friday to buy some good old American brand drug store items and household goods.

I'm not sure about the Yahoo site, but in British Columbia they are trying to keep them out. Here's the story that came up with I did a Google News search on "Walmart and Los Angeles".

The story begins:

Wal-Mart not always welcome
b> Anti-big-box leader in Nelson became Mayor
By John French, Reporter

Editor's note: This is the second in a three-part series on Wal-Mart, which is proposing a store for the Squamish Business Park. A public hearing for rezoning to allow the development will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at Brennan Park Recreation Centre.
Bringing Wal-Mart to town is easy. Preventing the world's largest retailer from breaking ground is a much more difficult task.

Despite the challenge, some communities have successfully blocked the corporation. Vancouver is in the process of restricting big box development, the City of Los Angeles is trying to do the same, and Inglewood, Calif. residents voted to reject a Wal-Mart store. In Nelson, the community elected a new mayor in the last election and the candidate who won played a key role in preventing Wal-Mart from opening a new store on the shores of the Western Arm of Kootenay Lake.

Nelson has some common traits with Squamish. The towns are similar in similar size, they are both mountain communities and both have waterfront property.

The Wal-Mart story in Nelson began in 1994 when Wal-Mart made its entry into Canada through the purchase of Woolco. The store in the Chanko-Mika Mall was transformed and, according to Nelson mayor Dave Elliott, Wal-Mart impacted a few businesses. . . .

follow the link for the rest.

I'd challenge you, Kendall, to show me shoddy merchandise sold by Wal-Mart. I wear clothes purchased there, and I'll bet you a pint you couldn't tell the difference from the clothes you buy at L. L. Bean. Well, maybe some things, but by and large, I think you are not correct.

If it aint made in America or Canada I do my best to buy elsewhere.
Doug, do you know the difference between a Kia and a BMW? They both get you from point "A" to point "B".

So, you are happy with the quality of Wal Mart goods? ok, but how about the other points I raised?
