Subject: RE: BS: 42 From: robomatic Date: 23 Sep 04 - 10:19 AM NPR ran it on the East Coast back in '82. I taped it in Dolby and quite a few times was asked for dupes in Alaska. Soon after Napster made its appearance a friend downloaded it in high bit rate. It must be wonderful hearing it come over the air all fresh. I remember sitting between Klipsch speakers and listening to the world come to an end and looking forward to the happy-go-lucky days to come. Cheers! |
Subject: RE: BS: 42 From: Sooz Date: 23 Sep 04 - 10:19 AM (Almost) the whole point of H2G2 was the quest for the answer to the ultimate question. (=42) Then they had to start all over again to find out what the question had been in the first place (what is 6 times nine?) |
Subject: RE: BS: 42 From: MudGuard Date: 23 Sep 04 - 09:54 AM Guest, 6 times 9 is 42 (you just have to use a number system that fits, in this case use a 13-based number system). |

Subject: RE: BS: 42 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 22 Sep 04 - 10:06 AM I heard the radio show here in the U.S. before the books and the rest came out. I think I listened to it on public radio, but it might have been a Canadian station since I did always listen to those, especially in the car. It has been so long, that I can remember where I was when I was listening to it, but I can't remember where I tuned in. But it must have been KUOW-FM. I also listened to a lot of other radio plays. Anyone else remember fondly the old "Mind's Eye" program and the various dramas and mysteries they used to play (not to be confused with the long-running CBS Radio Mystery Theater for which I timed my late evening drives so I could tune in to it). Subject: RE: BS: 42 From: Dave Bryant Date: 20 Sep 04 - 06:54 AM Well it's a good excuse for rushing into the pub and ordering lots of beer and packets of crisps. Be nice to any white mice which you have as pets, and keep your eyes out for a whale and bowl of petunias which might be falling out of the sky. Linda bought me the DVD set of the TV version for last Christmas. |
Subject: RE: BS: 42 From: GUEST,Mingulay Date: 20 Sep 04 - 06:32 AM Time for a strong 'Brownian' solution methinks whilst listening to Hotblack Desiato jamming on a nearby planet. Very loud the Squornshellus banjo, which accounts for the fact that the matressess are so easy to kill - they're deaf and can't hear you creeping up on them. |

Subject: RE: BS: 42 From: Peg Date: 18 Sep 04 - 02:21 PM Is this to be the original radio play? The radio play is so much better than the novels and TV show, I think... |
