Subject: BS: Saturday Night Live:Affleck & the Debate From: Jack the Sailor Date: 02 Oct 04 - 04:58 PM I'm expecting some fireworks on the show tonight. I would be very surprized if they didn't take a few shots at Bush's "Face of Frustration" tonight. :) |
Subject: RE: BS: Saturday Night Live:Affleck & the Debate From: Peace Date: 02 Oct 04 - 06:19 PM No doubt his Face of Frustration was caused by thinking. Here are some of his thoughts. "Rarely is the questioned asked: Is our children learning?" —George W. Bush, Florence, S.C., Jan. 11, 2000 "You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test.'' —George W. Bush, Townsend, Tenn., Feb. 21, 2001 Makes one proud to be human. |

Subject: RE: BS: Saturday Night Live:Affleck & the Debate From: Bill Hahn//\\ Date: 02 Oct 04 - 10:18 PM John Sayles new film Silver City---not his best work---a wonderful caricature of Bush's inability to think on his feet---or think--in the first half of the film is quite good. The film is, unfortunately, a bit over the top and fairly slow moving---unlike his SUnshine State which covered much of the same ground---without the caricatures of W---but slanted in the same way against the despoilers of the environment and the greed of developers working with politicos. Subject: RE: BS: Saturday Night Live:Affleck & the Debate From: Ebbie Date: 03 Oct 04 - 03:43 PM Well, they did a takeoof on the debate- and in the process savaged both of the debaters! That's ok; it is humo(u)r, after all. But I didn't particularly like it because it felt like they created the bit before they saw the debate itself. |
Subject: RE: BS: Saturday Night Live:Affleck & the Debate From: CarolC Date: 03 Oct 04 - 03:49 PM I thought so too, Ebbie. They certainly didn't make the best use of the material they had available to them. It could have been a lot funnier. |
Subject: RE: BS: Saturday Night Live:Affleck & the Debate From: katlaughing Date: 03 Oct 04 - 05:10 PM We stayed up just for this and, while it was humourous, in some spots, we, too, felt it could've been a LOT better. It felt as though they had so much material to work with on the shrub that they pulled rabbits out hats to keep up with poking fun at Kerry. Hope that makes sense.:-) On the whole, I think SNL has gone steadily downhill for a LONG, long time and rarely watch it. After this segment, this was once again confirmed by the "Downer Debbie" skit. It was stupid and not worthy of the SNL name, imo. kat |
Subject: RE: BS: Saturday Night Live:Affleck & the Debate From: CarolC Date: 03 Oct 04 - 05:21 PM Jon Stewart (Daily Show) was way funnier right after the debate than SNL. |
Subject: RE: BS: Saturday Night Live:Affleck & the Debate From: GUEST,Nancy King at work Date: 04 Oct 04 - 04:12 PM I thought the debate sketch was amusing, though not nearly as funny as a lot of the stuff they did during the last campaign. I agree that SNL has gone downhill recently, but for some reason I kept it on this time after the initial skit. Later on they did one that involved Kerry and Teresa in a hotel room (the gal who played Teresa was spot on), and after a while someone playing James Carville came in, and it was hilarious! Clinton also showed up. It was the best skit I've seen in a long time. Anyone else catch that one? Nancy |
Subject: RE: BS: Saturday Night Live:Affleck & the Debate From: Bill Hahn//\\ Date: 04 Oct 04 - 05:22 PM Truly a funny sketch---but, to me, Mad TV is head and shoulders above SNL---except they tend to really bad taste sometimes---but--sidesplittingly funny Bill Hahn |
