We were at the Black Dog last night and confirmed the booking for next year so get your diaries out - ready? - Friday 20th May 2005 to Sunday 22nd May 2005. We are anticipating the usual mix of song, music, drink and fun and hope to see as many of you there as can make it. Plenty of room for tents and caravans just let us know. |

Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Mr Happy Date: 28 Oct 04 - 07:36 PM Spendid news Mrs D! Myself & fiends will certainly try to make it next time. Very well done for your superb organisational skills. Is it the same place with the al fresco loo? |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Bill the Collie Date: 28 Oct 04 - 09:19 PM For them as weren't there last year, is it a private party? |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: fiddler Date: 29 Oct 04 - 03:34 AM Don't think so - I made it last year an plan to again next! Good to C U! Andy |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 29 Oct 04 - 03:35 AM Not at all Bill ALL are welcome even Mr happys fiends :0) It is a Mudcat gathering but we are always happy to meet any folk loving folk. There is plenty of space for vans and tents and of course the al fresco night loo is a feature!! At previous gatherings here the pub have offered cooked breakfasts and they also do excellent food at other times. The beer is great and quite honestly no excuse not to have a great time. Sometimes we have separate sog and tune sessions and at others mixed. We even had a quiz last year which may be repeated this time but scheduled earlier in the day. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 29 Oct 04 - 03:36 AM Another early riser eh! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 29 Oct 04 - 05:30 AM Count us in..... I love that Al Fresco feeling round the nethers at 4.00am! That poor doggie next door must wonder what the hell is going on! I will produce another quiz if requested, although maybe leave out the joining in round as it was a)too quiet on the lappie and b) too noisy in the pub! The whistles, hooters and bells will be there, so don't sit next to me if you don't like loud whistles! If you missed it, it was called 'Never mind the clues, it's all bo//ocks' and was loosely based on (in no particular order), I'm sorry, I haven't a clue, Just a minute, Never mind the bo//ocks and Sale of the Century. Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Date: 22 Feb 05 - 01:16 PM Hi Folks, Can someone please tell me if this is a primarily traditional gathering, or would a fully paid up singer/sogwriter, who has been branded an AGB by several catters, also be welcome. Most of my sogs are a) Traditional-ish, in tone and tune, with some music hall style, and b) Humourous. Must go now, I'm feeling soggy again. Don T. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 22 Feb 05 - 01:29 PM This is a primarily Yorkshire gathering which means anything goes especially barrels of ale. Climb on board the more the merrier. |

Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Raedwulf Date: 25 Feb 05 - 02:03 PM Isn't the continuing validity of the hug vouchers dependent on A Certain Someone's attendance (I did me best to cash them all. Has Jane the Wicked been printing more since?!)? Oh, & Khatt, as a newly-wed, I expect you to behave yourself (notice, I didn't say I expect you to behave well! A) I wouldn't, B) I know you, & C) I won't tell Micca if you don't... ;-) ) Davet - nobody made you do you anything. Especially, nobody made yer flash, yer sod! |

Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Malc R Date: 25 Feb 05 - 04:29 PM I take it that's a guarded 'Yes' - at least from Mrs Duck (must be some kind of exhibitionist). All i have to do now is convince 'she who must ...' that a weekend at a pub with a crowd of total strangers is a good idea and she will enjoy it. But hey, lifes too short............... |

Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 26 Feb 05 - 07:46 AM You never snogged me Liz does that make us strangers?? |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Malc R Date: 26 Feb 05 - 08:37 AM Sorry Sorcha, was it something i said? I promis not to look in your direction, provided i know which one is you. She said yes, after i explained that you were a fine upstanding bunch of ladies and gentlemen with an ear for good music and singing that would not be out of place on at a sunday church fete. I am not certain she completely beleived me though. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: MBSLynne Date: 26 Feb 05 - 08:43 AM Well if Micca's drinking the cider it must be reasonable stuff then....ok...you twisted my arm..we'll come! Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Malc R Date: 26 Feb 05 - 10:00 AM We've got a caravan, how do we go about booking a space for the weekend? |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Geoff the Duck Date: 26 Feb 05 - 10:57 AM There is plenty of room on the field at the back of the Black Dog. So far there has not been any problem fitting people in. The pub will need to know how many people to expect, so they can guess how much extra beer to order. I expect someone will start a body count closer to May. Sorcha - shame you can't make it this year. I enjoyed the sunny afternoon Old-Time session in the garden. Quack! GtD. |

In other words I want to come but may be prevented by forces beyond my control. Giok |

Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 11 Mar 05 - 05:24 AM If you make your intentions known for breakfast, that is really all that's needed, although it would be useful to have a rough idea so that the Black Dog can order in your barrel of cider. LTS |

I will do a head count as time goes on and ask you whether you are intent or van etc. but it is possible to turn up. As Liz says the main reason for numbers is breakfasts which are excellent. The field is a good size but knowing who and what are attending helps us make sure everyone pitches in a suitable spot. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: MBSLynne Date: 11 Mar 05 - 03:16 PM Weill you be doing the head count before or after I drink any cider? Because if it's after, the answer may be different. |

Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Raedwulf Date: 16 Mar 05 - 02:57 PM bd - How about some mild? You can't get mild in a London pub! Other than that, rather than thinking about a barrel or two, is it possible for a publican to get a broader selection in smaller quantity at trade price (e.g. bottled stuff)? I'm an ale/beer man, & don't go much on 'bitter' so if you get a barrel of bitter, I probably won't try it past the first pint. But if you've got a range I'll try one of each (seshpeshully hif I *hic* ain't shtried 'em be*hic*fore...) before settling on my faves (assuming I'm not parallel by then! ;-) ). I suspect most beer lovers, most folkies (is there a distinction (shaddap Khatt!) between the two?) are much the same. The CAMRA beer tent at Festival At The Edge is pure heaven precisely because, if one beer don't suit, I can finish it (of course, finish it! It's still beer, man!!) & move on to a different one... |

Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Micca Date: 22 Mar 05 - 01:27 PM Lynne, Biddenden is LOVELY Highly alcoholic (at least 8% BV and I suspect rather more sometimes) but with a lovelytart very appley taste like one would imagine liquidised Cox's apples would taste, sometimes known as "Milk of Amnesia" |

Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Raedwulf Date: 24 Mar 05 - 01:27 PM Liz - Vouchers may not help. Jane has got hold of the idea of ration books. I don't somehow think that's going to turn out to be for *my* benefit! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: GUEST,Mrs.Duck Date: 29 Mar 05 - 09:24 AM And no Liz, I don't mean for rump steak or sausage! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: GUEST,Liz the Squeak Date: 29 Mar 05 - 09:33 AM Sausage? Moi?! I will actually be claiming on behalf of Limpit who, although old enough to be hugged, is not deemed responsible enough to collect her own ration book, and I shall also be claiming for the recently married Mrs CatsPhiddle, who will no longer require hers....... Manitas is staying in London. LTS |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: GUEST,Mrs.Duck Date: 29 Mar 05 - 10:23 AM Well in that case I suppose I will just have to collect on behalf of all FIVE of my offspring. I would colect Geoff's but he usually gets his own! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 31 Mar 05 - 03:08 PM Went to Black Dog last night and beer and cider is being sorted. The pub is having a refurb so will look all posh before we arrive and having seen the artists impression will make the area near the conservatory a lot better for singing or musicians. I need to start counting bodies tents and caravans soon so if you could pm me it would make life easier although I will also go through the thread. This is the fifth Yorkshire gathering and looks like it could also be the best so don't miss it. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Raedwulf Date: 01 Apr 05 - 12:48 PM Jane - Why would all five of your offspring, never mind Geoff, be interested in ration books, eh? (But I would agree that only women understand ration books, & therefore men should not be allowed anywhere near one. Please? Especially Davetnova!!) Liz - If you want to get between Cats & her ration book, I'm not bloody well rescuing you - I heard what happened to Actaeon, for a start! But anything that keeps Limpit off my back (literally) is to be encouraged (just don't push yer luck...). |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 01 Apr 05 - 03:20 PM Of course they don't need ration books but that won't stop me claiming!!!! |

Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 06 May 05 - 12:13 PM Only 2 weeks to go now. All the refurbs should be done by next week so we will have some good areas for singing and music sessions. Of course it will be hot by then so we will all be sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine. We are hoping to have the barbeque on Saturday night as last year as it seemed to suit most people but there is also excellent food on offer in the dining area if you want to be posh. Could we have a quick hands up for Sunday lunch jist to give an idea of numbers. As before it would be preferred if we wait until the latter end of lunchtime (around 2pm) to allow for the regular trade to finish. Anyway if you have had the cooked breakfast you won't be ready to eat before then. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Zany Mouse Date: 06 May 05 - 12:48 PM Arrrggghhh - I've just realised I've double-booked! I can't make the Yorkshire Gathering as I'll be on my way to the Chez Wyndham-Reed in France for a week. Have a great time everyone. Rhiannon |

Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 07 May 05 - 09:50 AM Just called into the pub on the way home from CatsPhiddle and miccas wedding. The alterations are all just about done and it has made a big difference to the feel of the larger area which now has conventional pub type benches and so feels less like an overflow from the dining room. Should make it much better for having song and music sessions. |

The pub will be putting on a barbeque on the Saturday teatime. There will be burgers and other stuff and you pay them for what you have. It was all very good last year and reasonably priced. The pub also do a good selection of meals in the restaurant bit and sandwiches. Tracy has also said she will do breakfasts again this year - hooray! Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Geoff the Duck Date: 18 May 05 - 05:52 PM Each year what happens has been slightly diferent, depending on the venue and who turns up. Friday night has tended to be everyone together, although the new layout of the pub may make people spread out further. There has usually been ome form of music playing session on the Saturday afternoon and another on the evening. Some folks pay a passing visit such as you plan to, so could be at either. There should be music happening and if not you could start it up and others will join in. Quack! GtD. |

See you all soon! Quack!! GtD. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: YorkshireYankee Date: 19 May 05 - 10:12 PM Looking forward to seeing everyone -- and soon! Will also be bringing some yummy genuine American chocolate chip cookies (made by a genuine American, of course!) for the raffle... |

Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Micca Date: 22 May 05 - 01:24 PM Well, home again, after a Very GOOD time in the newly refurbished ( you know the way ththat word can be a euphemism for tarting a place up and ruining the ambience, well in this case it ISN'T they have done a lovely low key job) Black Dog, many thanks to the staff of the Black Dog for looking after us all, especially to blackdog himself and to Tracey for getting up at stupid o'clock to do breakfasts for a bunch of scruffy Folkies!! a Big Thank You also to The Ducks for organising a splendid weekend and a lovely welcoming venue, to Liz the Squeak for a memorable quiz (which our team the Hooters(dont ask) WON, Nyaaah Nayaah) and also my personal thanks to all who attended so I and My Wife could renew friendships and make some new ones. see you all next year |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: BanjoRay Date: 22 May 05 - 01:29 PM Well done, Geoff and Jane. Today's high spot for me was listening to some incredible Squeaks frim Liz when Yorkshire Yankee creased everyone up with a song about glass eyes. Ray |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: GUEST,MBSLynne Date: 22 May 05 - 01:54 PM Although we were only able to be there for the day on Saturday, it was most enjoyable, even though it appears to have turned my daughter into a pool-shark. Thanks Ducks! Thanks Black dog! Nice to meet yet more Mudcatters. The quiz was a laugh..and I, too was on the Hooters team, and we won!! Surprisingly good accoustics for a pub too. Not sure what happened to all the hugs that were mentioned in the thread as we built up to it..I didn't get many at all! Certainly not my fair share! Love Lynne |

Thanks everyone that came - I have a list somewhere and I think we had about 45 catters over the weekend. Grandson - worn out by the weekend - slept most of the way! Now for the washing, followed by repacking for Chippenham, holiday as we travel back home via Weybridge, Banbury , Sheffield and Manchest where Hatter, my companion for the week, gets his degree from the OU! ( If you don't know - Hatter is my son) Can I have a rest in June! ----- Probably not! Lovely weekend - glad I put the gazebo up for when we were eating tea, Saturday night! Gill |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 22 May 05 - 03:42 PM Weather stayed fine most of the time except when Gillian wanted to eat al fresco! But for those of us who opted for the barbeque it was quite sunny if not quite the heat wave we managed last year. |

Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: Malc R Date: 23 May 05 - 08:34 AM Big thanks to Jane and Geoff for the organizing, and Black Dog, Tracy and Bar Staff for their stirling effort over the weekend. So many new faces and names. I've forgotten more names than people I met?? But enjoyed the weekend emensly - roll on YG2006 Malc and Barbara |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire gathering 2005 From: YorkshireYankee Date: 23 May 05 - 12:42 PM Echoing others' accolades and appreciation to the Ducks (including Maddie, for all the work she does on the raffle!) and to the owners & staff of the Black Dog for their patience and helpfulness. Fond memories for me... Banjo Ray's lovely background picking all weekend (whenever there wasn't something else going on), CatsPhiddle's rousing rendition of Landlord Fill the Flowing Bowl (a real high point of the Saturday evening sing), Liz & Micca's side-splitting parodies, the hot tune-session Friday evening -- kicked off by Bill Sables & Sam Pirt (what a pair!), Hacksaw Bob's magical massages reducing late-late-night Catters (including me) to wonderfully relaxed puddles, Liz's quiz, the Sunday sing, and so much more... Once again enjoyed being able to (at last!) put some faces to familiar names (now if I can just remember all the names that go with the faces!) -- as well as (of course) getting to see friends from last year again. Also lovely to see the those who met at last year's YG still together & going strong on their "first anniversary", as well as that newly-hitched "Patterson couple" (not to mention parents/in-laws!). Good Luck to Ian McFlute and Mrs Duck on their upcoming job interviews -- we're all rooting for you! Cheers -- Vikki P.S. Many thanks for the compliments on the cookies -- glad they're "going down" well! [g] |
