Subject: Bedford Folk Club has moved -- again! From: Steve Parkes Date: 05 Nov 04 - 04:28 AM As of last night, Bedford Folk Music Club has moved from the Lincoln Arms and is now at THE FOX & HOUNDS, Goldington Road. It's a big yellow building, about half a mile or so from the old place as you head into town, and it's on the right-hand side of the road. The link has a photo and another link to a map. We're up the stairs in the function room (get your drinks downstairs), which is surprisingly quiet. Thanks to Mike (and Mike) for sorting out the new venue at lterally a moments notice, and to Robb Johnson for a great evening. Thanks too to Mary at the Lincoln for having us over the past twelve months. The brewery have shut the pace up for refurbishment, without any specific notice. "For our convenience", no doubt! Steve |
Subject: RE: Bedford Folk Club has moved -- again! From: breezy Date: 05 Nov 04 - 04:36 AM Thanks for the info I will mention it tonight Good luck with your new venue Mike. We've had some experience of moving about in St Albans too. Glad to hear you had a good evening with Robb as we have him next Friday 12th at the Duke while this evening we have Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman |

Subject: RE: Bedford Folk Club has moved -- again! From: BB Date: 06 Nov 04 - 11:36 AM That is such a shame! Having been at the club just recently, and having been mightily impressed with both the venue and the friendliness of the staff, you must be fairly peeved. But great that you've found somewhere else so quickly. Good luck with the new one. Barbara |
Subject: RE: Bedford Folk Club has moved -- again! From: Zany Mouse Date: 06 Nov 04 - 02:14 PM Gosh, how often this club has moved! I was a regular back in the Angel and Fallen Angel days. Mick and I went to Geoff Boughton's 70th birthday party a couple of weeks ago, he is my oldest friend (in more ways than one). Those were the days. Good luck in the new venue, Bedford, it was a great club and I wish I coud get down there to see you all. Rhiannon |
Subject: RE: Bedford Folk Club has moved -- again! From: BB Date: 07 Nov 04 - 07:20 AM Rhiannon, please send regards and birthday wishes to Geoff from Tom & Barbara. It's ages since we've been in touch with him and Barbara, but we had good times together in the past, both at Maydays in Cornwall and at Song & Ales over the years. How are they both these days? Barbara |
Subject: RE: Bedford Folk Club has moved -- again! From: Zany Mouse Date: 07 Nov 04 - 07:54 AM Hi Barbara They are living on a narrowboat called 'The Derby Ram' these days. They are blooming! Geoff certainly doesn't look 70 and Babs simply hasn't changed at all. Life seems good for them. I'm sure they would love to get in touch again, so PM me if you want their telephone number or email address. Rhiannon |

Subject: RE: Bedford Folk Club has moved -- again! From: Steve Parkes Date: 08 Nov 04 - 08:13 AM No problem fitting you in at the club: it will be a singaround, and you should get at least two songs in. Accommodation is a no-go at Parkes Towers right now -- I can't even put my kids up if they want to come over. But it's perfectly possible some kind-hearted 'Catter might find you a space. If this doesn't get a response, maybe a new thread might do it. |

Subject: RE: Bedford Folk Club has moved -- again! From: GUEST,Steve (with trouble) Date: 08 Nov 04 - 11:18 AM Not worth it now, Roger; Great-uncle Jarndyce built the West Wing in '10, Grandfather built the East Wing in '17, house flew away in '18. Dad built the loft conversion in '75, but that's another storey. |

Subject: RE: Bedford Folk Club has moved -- again! From: Hovering Bob Date: 09 Nov 04 - 04:13 AM You may have moved again, and the best of luck in the "new" venue but it isn't exactly a new venue for folk in Bedford. When I lived there in the mid 70's I attended 'The Bedford Folk Club' at 'The Angel,' (before it fell), and two singaround clubs run by John Carson. One met at 'The Fleur de Lis' on Tuesdays and the other, on Fridays at 'The Fox and Hounds.' There was a wonderful folk scene in Bedford in those days but with the hindsight of thirty odd years, I suppose it could be seen as the tail end of The Folk Revival back in the 60's when I first got interested in folk and sining myself. I did make it up to the Fleur a few years ago and since I'll soon be mobile again I may try and re-visit the Fox. Good luck to the club and all who sing in her. |
Subject: RE: Bedford Folk Club has moved -- again! From: Hovering Bob Date: 09 Nov 04 - 04:15 AM I was actually singing not sining - oh I don't know though! |
