Passed away this day 2004, he was a proper broadcaster, not a 'do anything to get noticed' personality [sic] presenter, like so many today. John Dunn

RIP, Mr Dunn.

There are plenty of 'proper/real' broadcasters around today though: Andy Kershaw, Stuart Maconie, Mark Radcliffe etc. And there were plenty of 'personality' ones, Noel Edmonds, Dave Lee Travis etc in his day. I don't think that much has changed in that respect.

He was 100 times better than the tosser who took over his late-afternoon show when he was dropped by Radio 2.

I haven't heard him for many years, but I used to listen to him on the way home from work when Radio 2 was on medium wave and it didn't keep dropping out as I was driving along. I was always impressed when he was interviewing guests. If the guest said something which raised a question in my mind, John would ask that question, rather than just sticking to a script. I often wish all interviewers would be like that.

I used to enjoy listening to John. I agree that he was an example to any broadcaster.
Quack!
