Subject: RE: BS: Famous folk from Greenland From: OldPossum Date: 19 Dec 04 - 10:19 AM Wolfgang is right, Knud Rasmussen has to be the most famous Greenlander (or the least unknown). The most famous Greenlander still living in my opinion is a man called Rasmus Lyberth - and it's folk, because he is a singer! Although he sings in Greenlandic, it is said of him that his way of singing is so intense that you can understand the meaning of the text even if you don't understand the language! That sounds far-fetched perhaps, but there is some thruth to it, he really is a fabulous singer. Not to be missed if you ever get a chance to hear him. |

Subject: RE: BS: Famous folk from Greenland From: kendall Date: 19 Dec 04 - 10:46 AM Leif Ericson was not a native of Greenland, he came from, I believe, Denmark? Anyway, on one of his many voyages he had been gone a long time, and when he got home he went to vote. The town clerk informed him that his name was not on the voting rolls, so he couldn't vote. When he told his wife, she was upset and she went to the town hall and confronted the clerk. Taking another look at the voting rolls, she admitted that his name had been droped and it was probably her fault. She said... wait for it "Good grief, I must have taken Leif off my census." |
