*On the television syndication front, look for Jerry Springer to rehabilitate his public image and seek to distance himself from the Chicago-based syndicated trashfest he has hosted since 1992.

As he prepares to disengage from his daily freak show and plot his political comeback in Ohio (where he was a Democratic candidate and office holder in the 1970s and '80s), Springer will make a new name for himself in talk radio. Bucking the nation's conservative talk trend, he'll be an articulate, passionate spokesman for liberal values and left-wing causes.

This could be interesting. Isn't Springer a lawyer? And I am not saying that to open this up to all the bad lawyer jokes you've ever heard. His show is pure trash, my husband loves it and I just shake my head, but I have never doubted the man's (Springer's or my husband's) intelligence.
I have heard rumors like this before. A couple of years ago I thought he had said he was interested in being a candidate for the US Senate. If anyone hears anything else, I would like to hear it.

His political career starting out as mayor of Cincinnati came to an untimely end when the story broke that he wrote a check to a prostitute for "services rendered." Not very politically astute for the mayor to leave such an obvious paper trail.

We all make little and big sacrifices all the time for those we care for. Sometimes we watch a lot of crap on TV to spend time together with those who don't appreciate being continually brow-beaten by those of us with "superior" ideas of what we want watch while ticking off our hours on this spinning rock. And at least a good dose of garbage gives us a good benchmark on popular culture.

Tonight, of course, BBC TV has a Jerry Springer themed night on BBC Two, mostly consisting of Jerry Springer The Opera. There's a moral panic on about it in media, which should help ensure a fair audience, not just the opera buffs.

"Jerry Springer, America's favourite talk show host, suffers the worst day of his career when faced with transsexuals, nappy wearers and a troupe of tap-dancing Ku Klux Klansmen. This boundary-breaking show will appeal to all - except the faint-hearted!" Jerry is played by David Soul. Rather a pity they couldn't get the real lad, if he's trying to extend his career...

I sat up way past my bedtime to watch Jerry Springer: The Opera last night, and I thought it was very entertaining, though more for novelty value than anything else. Twas hard to tell the difference between it and a normal episode of jerry Springer. For a bit of intertextuality (or whatever the word is when threads are involved), they mentioned Dr Phil on it ("he's shit", was the relevant lyric). David Soul was brilliant - he was Jerry alright.

Watched it too..thought it was very entertaining and lots of fun......oh well yes there was swearing but the musicality of the piece made up for it.Mirrored the programe brilliantly and was an excellent piece of satire 45,000 complaints before it was shown, 900 after, not like they weren't warned...if you think its liable to offend then don't watch it....

I heard Jerry Springer's show starts next Monday on Air America. Jerry will be chamnpioning liberal positions on a live show from Cincinati, where some believe he is repositioning himself for a Democratic Senate seat.

He is a credit to the Democratic party and the liberal cause.
