Subject: BS: Liz the Squeak's unashamed sympathy bid From: Liz the Squeak Date: 06 Jan 05 - 06:10 PM I'm going into hospital for the day on Monday 10th, for what I hope is the final bout of heart surgery and I need a hug!!! The operation is an ablation, to remove extra electrical impulses in the heart that causes it to beat irregularly, speed up for no reason or just generally bugger about. It causes all sorts of things from dizzy spells, fainting, lack of oxygen, chest pains and risk of stroke. It's a common procedure, nothing dramatic about it, no cracking open the chest or waving little electric paddles about, but it's still a big deal to me..... It's done under local anaesthetic, the points of entry are the femoral veins, and they are using both.... Last time it was just one, and that bruised spectacularly. Two should be ... interesting! All being well, I shall be home on Monday afternoon/evening and probably compost mentis by Tuesday. LTS |

Thanks all of you... it's a great feeling, knowing you're all out there thinking of what's happening to this mad woman most of you have never met..... Seamus....... bearing in mind a) that this is a family site; b) where the incisions are going to be; and c) the size of my fat arse (old joke) .... pictures of the stitches will be by private viewing and appointment only! To put the record straight, I was diagnosed long before Tony Bleugh had his little episode - he got diagnosed, admitted and treated in 9 hours what took me 9 months to get discovered, let alone diagnosed! And he says he had it done on the NHS...... yeah, not in MY borough! It may be dicky, irregular and possibly worn out, but it is very full... thank you. LTS XX |

Subject: RE: BS: Liz the Squeak's unashamed sympathy bid From: Tannywheeler Date: 07 Jan 05 - 03:59 PM Oh, boy -- I want Teresa to teach me how to hug like that. You were making a joke, right? Compost/compos? I have often noted how mentally competent most of the folks who post on MudCat are. It's difficult to believe that such an obviously good heart can have something out of kilter. About 30 yrs ago hubby was injured in a church league softball game. Turned out his broken rib had punctured his spleen and he bled (an internal slow leak) all night. He was in a bad way. Off to the emergency room, an emergency laparotomy, serious repair/spleen removal, stitch-up. He'd lost about 4fifths of his blood! and almost died. When he came home after a week recuperating in the hospital, folks at church brought all sorts of casseroles, etc.-- including one woman's famous, much-loved spaghetti sauce and a bottle of red wine. I called the surgeon to see if it was safe to let Hubby drink the wine ('cuz he was taking various meds). The surgeon was emphatic with his YES -- but I had to get lots of cheese into Hubby, as well. Seems some chemical interaction with the wine&cheese would BUILD his blood. Use it if it helps. Tw |

Subject: RE: BS: Liz the Squeak's unashamed sympathy bid From: Liz the Squeak Date: 10 Jan 05 - 02:44 PM Can't be squeaky clean just yet.. no baths for 2 days and I can't reach those bits with the shower! Apparently it was a success, I ain't dead and they got the bits they wanted. I'm off the medication so hopefully can lose the stone I put on with them by March. I'm very sore and twitchy (had to lie dead still for 2 hours on the table and another 2.5 hours afterwards), but so far all is OK. Thanks everyone for the good thoughts, prayers, &@$! reducing candles and everything else. I will give further reports on the bruising when it comes out. LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Liz the Squeak's unashamed sympathy bid From: Liz the Squeak Date: 11 Jan 05 - 02:19 PM Well something works, I lost 4lbs already! I did ask the surgeon if he would do some liposuction whilst he was down there, but he said he didn't have a big enough tube..... Thank you everyone. LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Liz the Squeak's unashamed sympathy bid From: Liz the Squeak Date: 15 Jan 05 - 06:03 PM I'm doing OK. Sorry to disappoint but bruising was minimal so no lurid pictures of purple limbs.... Having a little trouble with circulation in one leg so I suspect the bruising is internal but otherwise, I'm actually feeling energetic for the first time in a very long while! It will be a week or so more before I know if it's worked properly, I'll not faint next time I run up the stairs! Thanks everyone for you kind messages and thoughts. LTS |
