Frame an x-ray of a destroyed lung on the wall with a package of cigarettes attached to it. Or maybe an oxygen tank like my brother-in-law has to wear now. That should do it..

Spot about two months ago I blew an eighteen month run. I need to do it all over again. Do yourself a favor. . . You are not a smoker right now, tomorrow you might be.
(Yes, they taste great! Yes, I am losing weight.)

SPot ---

You do know the difference between your own intentions and the body's endless rationalizations. Why take all thatbullshit onboard as though it was your own?

Any addiction will set body into whinging and whining and making up shitty reasons why its a good idea to ____.

But what do you really think?

That's the deciding point. Live or let die -- your call, senor.

Good luck!!

Yesterday I glanced at the tobacco case in the super market, and I noticed that a one pound can of Raleigh pipe tobacco was $15.99. Back when I smoked a pipe, it was $1.25.I quit 7 years ago, but I still lost my voice to cancer. Didn't quit soon enough, you see.

Hey, being overweight is not confined to reformed smokers... neither is being skinny confined to smokers.

I've never smoked and neither did my first maths teacher. I'm 'cuddly' (or as my Dr put it, severely overweight, bastard!) and she's got less meat on her than a butcher's pencil.

Don't start again.... please? Kissing a smoker is like licking an ashtray.

You don't have to gain weight when you quit. To stop smoking is the major step, but behaviour modification is the next big step.
One of the things I did was to stop eating potato chips (crisps to you Brits). I now weigh exactly two pounds more than I did when I was 19. Excuses are easy, changing old habits is work.

Eleven years ago, a beautiful young woman told me quitting smoking would improve my sex life. Well, it didn't work with here, but I've done pretty well for myself over the years since I quit.

There was a beautiful woman sitting in front of me in church this morning - but she reeked of cigarettes and had a horrible cough. Yuck!!

If you think of smoking in terms of your relationships with potential romantic interests, it might be easier to quit.

But I admit that I scrounge a puff every once in a while, and it sure tastes good.

I smoked heavily from 12 to 30 - 3 packs a day and loved it! Won't bore you with the story of my quitting but basically haven't smoked since although when the night is late, the wine is plenty, the music and conversation sublime, smoking a cigarette would be the most perfect of acts. So, I just know that I can never afford to smoke that one, because if I do I will be instantly back to 3 packs a day and having to give it up again. Now, the craving doesn't happen at all and even more interesting, I find smoking just awful. I look at people who smoke, and as a very personal opinion, make the judgement that I find them very ugly to look at, and as well, smoke lingers and goes stale around a person who smokes. No matter how meticulous, the smell is there. Now, people can do what they like of course, but I can't get too close to smokers believe me! And non-smokers I have heard (!!) do it better! Forgive yourself that one or two or three but - GIVE THE BASTARD THINGS UP!!!!!!!

People smoke to avoid the discomfort of not smoking. They also delude themselves into thinking that they enjoy it. Their need for nicotine is what enjoys it, because it is getting what it wants; but your lungs sure as hell aint!

Every now and then I'll have a ciggy when I've been drinking and someone around me is smoking. That's about once a year. I pretty much enjoy not smoking. I don't think I can afford it now anyway.

Well, Spot, you're a big dog now and you have to make your own choices.

If you choose, and the key word here is CHOOSE, not to smoke, well then, good luck.

Love, Annamill (gave it up 21 years ago)

I got word today that another old friend has passed on. He was down to 80 pounds. Lungs totally destroyed by cigarettes; he was unable to go to the bathroom without support. What a way to go. And people PAY to go that way!

When you've all given up smoking and the Alzheimer's Disease sets in (as it does with non-smokers) I hope you never have a painfully lucid ionterval in which you realize that smoking might have saved your brain.

"Alzheimer's Disease. Some evidence also suggests that nicotine may have short-term protective actions against disease mechanisms that cause Alzheimer's. In fact nicotine is being tested in Alzheimer's patients. It should be strongly noted, however, that such effects, if protective, are short term and are most likely not applicable to smokers. In fact, the best current research suggesting that smoking makes little difference in the risk for Alzheimer's, and if it does, the risk for dementia is slightly higher in smokers. (Certainly, smoking can affect blood vessels in the brain as it does in the heart, increasing the risk for dementia from small or major strokes.)"
From http://www.reutershealth.com/wellconnected/doc41.html

And to read about how smoking leads to dementia and mental decline:
http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FSL/is_6_79/ai_n6076828

So even if you don't care that you smell disgusting and have a high risk of cancer and force those around you to inhale your smoke and all the other problems with it, I don't think avoiding Alzheimer's is a valid excuse for smoking.

It's amazing how many far out excuses smokers come up with to justify that disgusting habit.
