Subject: Musician looking for band From: GUEST,Patricia Date: 29 Jan 05 - 01:58 PM Hi, I'm 18, live in Derbyshire (Matlock/Bakewell area) but am willing to travel for a good band. I want to turn professional, playing traditional Irish music mainly, but I also play Scottish, Eastern European and a bit of English. Fiddle and piano are my main instruments. I have experience in other reasonably successful bands (such as duo, 'Fotla', Young Folk Award semi-finalists 2004) but unfortunately, owing to commitments of other members of the groups (mainly exams) we couldn't go as far as I would have liked to. So now I'm looking for a folk act who want to play reasonably seriously (regular gigs/festivals etc). If anyone's interested, please e-mail me on tize_tm@hotmail.com Thanks, Patricia Clark |
Subject: RE: Musician looking for band From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker Date: 29 Jan 05 - 02:08 PM i'd suggest you email '3 daft monkeys' for info & advice and potential networking mates. They are one of my favourite recent 'folk' bands and include a very charismatic female fiddle player who brings east european/klezmer influences into the mix.. & they gig extensively on the UK / Euro festival circuit http://www.3daftmonkeys.co.uk/ Of immediate practical use to you, they have a message board at their site. |

Subject: RE: Musician looking for band From: Leadfingers Date: 29 Jan 05 - 07:49 PM Patricia , I have , in the past , had some success getting a band together through a notice stuck up in a local Music shop . This does at least have the advantage that the people who MIGHT be interested are fairly local to you , which could be a major consideration if YOU do not have private transport . Also , are there any local sessions with some like minded musos ? I wish you all the best of luck though ! |
Subject: RE: Musician looking for band From: Mitch the Bass Date: 31 Jan 05 - 06:51 PM Patricia, I live in Derby, a bit south of you in Matlock. Mick Peat does lots of good stuff for young aspiring folk musicians in the area. He does a weekly folk programme on Radio Derby on Monday called Folk Waves. There's a session at the Dead Poets in Holloway on a Sunday - I haven't been for a while but a good place to make contacts. Also a Wednesday session at the Derwent Arms, Whatstandwell but again I haven't been for a while. Good Luck Mitch http://www.stradivarious.co.uk |
