Subject: RE: BS. What did Rockall ever do for us? From: gnomad Date: 30 Jan 05 - 07:21 AM Gave the gannets & other seabirds somewhere else to do their thing, extended UK coastal waters (and hence the fish, mineral resources etc. to which we could lay claim) made it possible to name the sea area between Shannon and Bailey, gave us a euphemism for nothing. Not bad for a lump of rock? |

Subject: RE: BS. What did Rockall ever do for us? From: RichardP Date: 30 Jan 05 - 12:56 PM Gnomad was right. At the time that Rockall was annexed points west of Rockall became part of the definition of British fishing grounds and joining them by straight lines to appropriate points off the mainland coast added thousands of square miles to British fishing waters. Of course there have been regular changes in the rules since then so that advantage has been lost. Richard P |

Subject: RE: BS. What did Rockall ever do for us? From: GUEST,Paddymac Date: 30 Jan 05 - 08:59 PM Also gave the "Wolfetones" one of there most popular songs, though it wasn't so much the rock as the British theft of it, and associated natural resources. Some things never seem to change. |
