Followup exam

I am scheduled for another exam on Thursday following laser surgery last November. Hope is dimming that I will ever sing again, and if the cancer comes back, well...
Anyway, I have almost a fifth of scotch, and by dinner time I won't have quite as much. What kind? Duggans Dew o' Kirkintilloch.

Has anyone here ever read any of Guy Gilpatrick's books? He had this Engineer on a steamer , his name was Colin Glencannon; a delightful tale. One of his books was titled, "Mr. Glencannon ignores the war.
Gilpatrick committed suicide years ago.
Keep a good thought for me folks. Jacqui will be home tomorrow, that will help.

Kendall, if you like Gilpatrick, have you tried Patrick O'Brien? Twenty cracking good novels about the Royal Navy, the series beginning just after Trafalgar. I started reading them last summer when I was getting over eye surgery, and I find them extremely diverting. Convincing in their historical details, too, although I'm too ignorant about ships to comment on the technical stuff about sailing. I found them just the thing for a period of stress and being required to be still.

Fingers are crossed for you in these parts, too.

Charmion, I have read some Patrick O'Brian, and did enjoy what I read, but I thought he dwells too much on the fine details of the ship's nomenclature.(Not to put too fine a point on it).

ref. Patrick O'Brian, I'm fairly familiar with the workings of sailing vessels, but he comes up with stuff that I never heard before, such as "cross catharpings" and "cunt splices". I have no clue what he's talking about.

OK folks - I'm back from Florida just in time it seems.

The old guy's fine - just got a touch of the heebie jeebies - the last time we saw this particular specialist was when he told us the cancer was back. I can quite understand that going back today is going to be a bit traumatic. Well, now Kendall's got me to hold on to.

Bassic - 2 3 4 BITE ME! I'll see you in the UK later in the year and we'll talk about the emancipation of women. (LOL)

Thanks to everyone for the kind words - Kendall does appreciate the sentiments. Once we've got this check up over and done with I shall be doing my wifely duty and nagging him to get back to the music and story telling. At some point he will learn that it's easier to give in......, even for a Taurus!

Kendall was on form as usual. They had to put a wire down through his nostril and, after this had been fed through for what seemed an age, he asked "Is my appendix still there?"

He's fine - everything is healing as it should, although not fast enough to suit him. However, he has been reassured that things are healing. He was even told that he will recover more of a voice than he has at present, it will just take time.

I'm looking forward to getting out to California and seeing him gig with Utah Phillips. It will happen one of these days. In the meantime all I have to do is nag him into getting back into playing the guitar and banjo and putting some new story telling material together.
