From: Ron Davies Date: 19 Feb 05 - 11:33 PM A wonderful version of the Dvorak cello concerto on WCPE, the North Carolina station broadcast on the Net--- I think it was Dani who mentioned it earlier. If they continue to do so, they will very likely get all the funding I might possibly have given to WETA, thanks to WETA's recent brilliant decision to discontinue classical broadcasting. |

Subject: RE: BS: What are you listening to - now? From: Peace Date: 20 Feb 05 - 10:25 PM Never heard it called that. It involved two teams of about seven per side. Knelt facing each other. One of the elders (or more experienced players would be the 'shooter'. Using one or both hands, he would point between two players. If he was 'shooting' with just one hand, and his thumb was tucked against his palm, the players to the left of the shooters hand would have to open the hand that was on the left side of their body; if that hand contained the rock or pebble or coin they were playing with, they were out. The players to the right of the shooters hand would have to open their right hands, Same thing. If the rochk was there, they were out. Shooting is much more complicated than that, but you get the idea. |
Subject: RE: BS: What are you listening to - now? From: number 6 Date: 20 Feb 05 - 10:30 PM sounds like something I saw .... the objective was to trick the other players, If I remember correctly. |
Subject: RE: BS: What are you listening to - now? From: Peace Date: 20 Feb 05 - 10:39 PM Yeah. Each player had one stone or rock. You'd put your hands under a blanket that covered the hands of all the players on your team (or each used his own jacket) and the rock would end up in one hand. You could cross your arms or just hold them against your chest or sides. We are talking about the same game. Onec, and only one, did I see a shooter get all seven players with one shot. There were seven players. He shot with his left hand between player two and three (going from shooter's perspective). His thumb was out. On the right hand he shot between players six and seven. What a hoot that was. The drummers stopped real fast. Of course, Mr Moberly was great at that game. He had a good eye for who'd done what with the stone, and he seldom missed a trick. |
