Cross-Party agreement....
(... and that means the DUP...)
... Sending the recommendations to the British Government as we speak...
Cross-Cultural Sports Stadiums, museums...

Long Kesh has come a long way...

I can`t see a 30,000 Stadium being much good for GAA games, 60,000 attended last years Ulster Final at Croke Park, it will be ok for the soccer fans I believe there was a full house at their last game 11,000.

The Bobby Sands Memorial Stadium... That's what it will be known as, regardless of what they eventually name it.

Are we having fun yet?

If this was a thread about bashing Sinn Féin, all the usual suspects would be in here waxing self-righteous.

Strangely silent.
Strangely silent indeed....

What's wrong folks?

And what was all that bullshit about what The IRA has to do, again?

My middle finger is standing erect in front of the computer screen, and I invite begrudgers worldwide to sit on it, and rotate.

'Shite' and 'Huh', eh?

What poets you all are

"My middle finger is standing erect in front of the computer screen, and I invite begrudgers worldwide to sit on it, and rotate."

You have such a way with words.

H-Block is already an historical place--infamous or utilitarian-- depending on which 'side' you have chosen. The sanction of people to have it officially named one is a matter of political intrigue. Thsoe who died there will not be comforted that it is historical. To quote Steve Gillette (I think): "Tombstones cheer the living; they're no use to the dead."

Rotate on that, Guest ABT.

"Thsoe (typo) who died there will not be comforted that it is historical"

Those who will be remembered, Brucie volunteered to sacrifice their lives there, in the struggle for Political Status.
That is why some Blocks and the prison hospital are to become listed buildings.

Up til the time of Internment, and later, the time of the Hunger Strike, Long Kesh had nothing much remarkable going for it.

Far from asking ABT to rotate on anything, Brucie, why don't you just Fuck Off, and thank your lucky stars that you will never be put in the position where you have to put your life where your mouth is

"My middle finger is standing erect in front of the computer screen, and I invite begrudgers worldwide to sit on it, and rotate."

That was posted by ABT before I posted "Rotate on that, Guest ABT."

Then you wrote this: "Far from asking ABT to rotate on anything, Brucie, why don't you just Fuck Off".

So you can Fuck Off, pal.

I am happy about these developments on a number of levels.

Secondly, this is a cross-party initiative, which all parties in the north of Ireland have given their approval to.
Does that mean co-operation, or what?

Firstly, recognition has been given to the significance of what the Hunger Strikers died for, and as such it indelibly marks their righteous place in the annals of modern Irish history. Just like Kilmainham, the GPO, The Four Courts, and Mountjoy, the H-Blocks, (or more particularly) the Prison Hospital in Long Kesh, will be accorded that special status in Ireland, which is reserved for commemerating the legitimate struggle to get the British out of our affairs.

Thirdly, I take Ard Mhacha's point that the logistics of putting the football stadium together may prove a headache for the designers.
If you play a game of soccer on a GAA pitch, (another 1st), there would be an awful lot of 'field' surrounding the touchlines. GAA pitches dwarf soccer pitches, and if they are going to build a 90 000 seater, as I heard on David Dunseith's 'Talkback' programme on Radio Ulster, some days ago, then the poor soccer fan will be so far away from the action, that both their sets of supporters may well have to stand on the sidelines (just like the old days), and leave the stands to the folks that watch the by far more popular (and more action-packed) games of Football and Hurling.

Whatever about the goal of a United Ireland, the Nationalists of the north of Ireland never have risen above the first goal of attaining equality. There is still a very long way to go, mind you. Little has changed, 'Equal Opportunity' legislation, notwithstanding. The only section of northern society who does not want equality are the radical Unionist parties, and this new development, is entirely that... a new development.

If the DUP, and others of their ilk, realise and accept that the Prison Hospital at Long Kesh has such a special place in Irish history that they are willing to list it, make a museum out of it, and use taxpayers money to maintain it, well then, who the fuck are you, Brucie, to gainsay it.

Did Canada have an Armed Struggle once?
Who was it against?
Do you (as a Country) commerate your Independence every year?
Can your weeny reach your ass?

Go shag yourself!

Do I detect the taste of sour grapes?

With a reminder to ignore all anon guests, this may be my chance to ask a question or 3 I've been wanting to know.

Whenever I hear some commentator say that Sinn Fein is the political arm of the IRA, my head swims because back in the 60's and early 70's I thought that Sinn Fein was the political party, unfairly driven underground, and that IRA was the militant splinter group.

Is that not the way it was?

And what place did the IR clubs play? their position always sounded sane to me: stop the sectaring violence as the path to getting the British Army out of Northern Ireland. That the violence remained a pretext for keeping them there.

Sounded good to me.

So: is this revived Sinn Fein the original Sinn Fein coming back, or a political wing of the IRA?

I must say that mob psychology in any form distresses me.

Look at what is happening here in the good old U.S. of A., and in the Mid-East.

I agree MAG, shocking isnt it. The British involvement in the mid east is something they will probably end up apologising for in 35 years time too.

I'll leave your political ins and outs for someone far more knowledgable than myself.

I would recommend, however that you begin at the beginning
