Subject: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Felipa Date: 02 Dec 98 - 03:36 PM Seems to me there's plenty of material which could be edited into a book of 'best' excerpts from the forum - thread on Spancil Hill, discussions on folk music, discussions on other topics that came up inspired by song quests (RUC thread - N Irish 'troubles', travellers rights - Travelling People thread), playing with words as in "Billy the Squid". It would be readable but I don't know about marketing - through the web and folk magazines and festivals? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Bill D Date: 02 Dec 98 - 05:37 PM gee...I hope YOU are volunteering to do the editing!! *grin*...Max says over 40,000 posts already... (perhaps a CD with it all on there in order...) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: murray@mpce.mq.edu.au Date: 03 Dec 98 - 07:46 AM Yes Felipa, I hope you will volunteer to be the editor and I hope you will enjoy thinking of all us sitting at our computers seething at you because you left out our gem which was the best ever to appear in the forum ;-} Murray |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Bill D Date: 03 Dec 98 - 10:05 PM movie...pooh! Dick, with the new technology, we will be live!! I just had a 4-way chat with Mick, Alison of Oz, and Barbara(blessings)!....it is fine, if your head can cope with it all!! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Webby Date: 04 Dec 98 - 03:01 AM I'll wait till its on video |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: The Shambles Date: 04 Dec 98 - 01:50 PM I hear that Robert Redford is interested in the part of Joe Offer. Who would play the other leading roles? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Felipa Date: 04 Dec 98 - 02:01 PM just to let you know I won't be the editor but I'd go to see the film |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Allan C. Date: 04 Dec 98 - 03:47 PM In this case I'm pretty sure that a thousand words would be far better than a picture... |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: BSeed Date: 04 Dec 98 - 05:24 PM How about an action game? Then the --seed character could go after Gargoyle with a cattle prod. --seed |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Bill D Date: 04 Dec 98 - 07:44 PM movie?? nawww...it'll never get off the ground! The argument over the music score will last till the end of time! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: alison Date: 04 Dec 98 - 09:27 PM Mmmmmmm, Robert Redford for Joe.... quite like that. Can we have Harrison Ford for Big Mick? (I'm going to enjoy this movie **grin**.) Need a strong silent type for Max..... any ideas? Slainte alison |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Big Mick Date: 05 Dec 98 - 09:35 AM I was thinking Julia Roberts for Alison, and Susan Sarandon for Blessings Barbara. Liam Neeson for Mick Bracken, Colm Meaney for Frank McGrath. The voice of God for Dick, and a Marian apparition for Susan. Max will have to be portrayed by the Wizard of Oz. I am nominating Mel Gibson to play Alan of Australia. Northfolk will have to be portrayed by the Marlboro Man from X files. Don't worry, Mick Lowe, I am working on someone for you, too!! And all the rest, as well. All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Big Mick Date: 05 Dec 98 - 09:44 AM What an bloody eejit I am. Scratch Susan Sarandon for Barbara. Meryl Streep must play her. It is a natural. Sarandon should play Alice in Montana. Harpgirl should definitely be played by Drew Barrymore. Roger in Baltimore........Hmmmmmm. I will have to think on this for a bit. Liam's Brother.....? Gargoyle.....easy, Alan Rickman. All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Big Mick Date: 05 Dec 98 - 10:11 AM Bseed must be played by Kevin Costner!!!! My brain is working feverishly on the rest of you. Mick |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: BSeed Date: 05 Dec 98 - 04:13 PM Kevin Costner is much too young for me, Mick, although he, too, is known for disastrous misjudgments. My son, one of my former students, and a stranger on a train in Japan all said I look like Sean Connery, but I wouldn't presume...for Gargoyle, I'd suggest Charlton Heston--who else would be believable speaking for God? Too bad Capra is dead: he'd be my choice for director. --seed |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: alison Date: 05 Dec 98 - 06:38 PM Hi, I don't think it should matter if they're dead... this is all virtual....... Can I have a dance routine with Gene Kelly please? I'd like it to have a fling with Sean connery no matter who he's playing **grin** slainte alison |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Alan of Australia Date: 06 Dec 98 - 04:38 AM G'day, Mel Gibson eh! Stole the words out of my mouth. Well he is an Aussie, but if Julia Roberts plays Alison then I'm playing myself!
Cheers, |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Art Thieme Date: 06 Dec 98 - 03:24 PM I wanna play Big Mick! Can I, can I??? (Harrison Ford is way too little to play Mick.) And Harp MUST be played by Michele Pfeiffer--the way she looked in _Ladyhawk_! (NEW NAME: LADYHARP !) I can see it now: BIG MICK swatting away planes from the top o' the Empire State Building with a Seeger long-neck banjo. Seed would be played by Gollum from J.R.R. Tolkien. Alice would be played by Calamity Jane. Dan Keding would be played by Georgi Murasson(spelling?)the pro basketball giant! Max? Wizard of Oz is too tame. How about Mel Lyman surrounded by angels playing bluesharps ? The new brand called the Harmonica Lewinsky! (Some folks who have tried 'em say they suck.) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: harpgirl Date: 06 Dec 98 - 07:56 PM way cool guys...I am more the Drew Barrymore type than Michelle Pfieffer! I was thinking Gerard DePardue for Big Mick...Jessica Lange for Alice...Richard Dreyfuss for Roger...Brad Pitt for Barry....mtc...ladyharp |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: harpgirl Date: 06 Dec 98 - 08:02 PM and wouldn't you all agree (hah, fat chance!) that Robin Williams should play Art???? harpy |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 06 Dec 98 - 10:12 PM Richard Dreyfuss, eh? Yes, that's the ticket. Thank you, Harp Girl. If this truly is virtual, my friends would probably say Burl Ives, folk singer and actor. It is interesting how this thread moved quickly from the book to the movie. Just like in real life. Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: John in Brisbane Date: 07 Dec 98 - 12:26 AM The theme music is a lay down misere - Wild Rover No More - of course. And to avoid any disputation about folk instrumentation it must be played on a Hammond organ.
But forgetting the arty side of this movie SERIES, the more serious part surrounds financing the whole operation.

Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Art Thieme Date: 07 Dec 98 - 11:23 AM John in Brisbane will be played by Either Banjo Patterson or Henry Lawson! Dan K. and I were discussing a plot: Whether or not it's possible for someone to become pregnant in cyberspace---and all the drama that goes down when someone actually does. Also, how does one practice safe sex in cyberspace... And the resultant sperm mutations from being beamed through cyberspace produce, for the FIST TIME EVER, a female offspring who, years later, falls hysterically head-over-heels in love with a male nitwith solely because of his huge breasts---something that happens all the time when it's the other way around!!! Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: The Shambles Date: 07 Dec 98 - 06:37 PM HOT NEWS FROM HOLLYWOOD! Confirned Danny DeVito as Big Mick! Title song to be 'Blood on the Frets' and to be recorded by Englebert Humperdinck. Did you know that having sex in space is called a 'Sally Ride'? Don't know what they would call it in cyberspace though. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Big Mick Date: 07 Dec 98 - 08:16 PM Alright, Shambles, I canna let that one pass. First, Alison has already cast Harrison Ford for the role of me. Second, DANNY DEVITO!!!!!~!!!!. Third, You will be played by Hal Roach. LOL, Mick |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: The Shambles Date: 08 Dec 98 - 01:59 AM Mick Has Hal Roach been getting bad press then? You mean the one of silent film fame? What did he do wrong? No offence intended, I thought it was just the way Hollywood works. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: alison Date: 08 Dec 98 - 02:14 AM Hi, I still want Big Mick to be played by Harrison Ford (although I'll settle for Sean Connery)..... there is no way... no how I'm letting my character (even if it is played by Julia Roberts) have any sort of a cyber-flirt with Danny De Vito..... Might just have to run off with Robert Redford! (**grin**) Slainte alison |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: The Shambles Date: 08 Dec 98 - 02:57 AM Obviously Harrison Ford is the only choice (crawl, crawl). The way I looked at in Hollywood, they say "you need a big Irishman, right I'll give you a small Italian, a box to stand on and dub the voice. To change to subject, I have now got this ICQ 'thingy', how do I contact you lot? I found to my suprise that there quite a number of 'Big Micks' on it. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: The Shambles Date: 08 Dec 98 - 06:36 AM They usually get a English actor to put on a the Irish voice too. Any nominations for the worst ever screen accent ? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Alan of Australia Date: 08 Dec 98 - 06:44 AM G'day, The WORST screen accent is always an American doing an Aussie accent. Steve Martin for Joe.

Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Big Mick Date: 08 Dec 98 - 06:46 AM Hey Shambles, I am still laughing out loud. My ICQ # 21030726. You can do a search by clicking on the "Add/find members" then click on my name and put in a request to be added. I will then approve it and voila, we can chat. I'm still holding out for Harrison Ford. He is not as good looking, but the approximate right age. *****grin**** Mick |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Alan of Australia Date: 08 Dec 98 - 06:52 AM G'day Mick, Well, I'll agree you ARE better looking than Danny De Vito!
Cheers, |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Big Mick Date: 08 Dec 98 - 07:07 AM Second on the Steve Martin nomination for Joe. Mick |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Steve Martin Date: 08 Dec 98 - 01:13 PM Thank you very much for your vote of confidence. I will be happy to play the part of Joe Offer, and I will do my best to adequately portray his wit, vast intelligence, and remarkable good looks. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Steve Martin Date: 08 Dec 98 - 09:14 PM (oh, I will, of course, wear a fake arrow thru my head, wear a purple plaid suit and carry my banjo) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Joe Offer Date: 08 Dec 98 - 09:29 PM That's a great start, Steve. I'm sure you'll do just fine, and I'll be very proud of you. Be aware, though, that the real Joe Offer usually wears contrasting plaids - a chartreuse plaid tie with the purple plaid suit might be nice. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Forum - the book From: Mo Date: 09 Dec 98 - 01:50 AM Orson Welles could have played Max. Except it would be a mouse that falls from his hands, not a snow dome, and he'd exhale the word "Mud caaat.......". Could Margaret Rutherford have filled the shoes of the Blessed Barbara? Mo |
