Does anyone have the lyrics to this song and if possible a translation into English? It is on "The Lark In The Morning" by Liam Clancy, Tommy Makem, Family & Friends. The singer is Sean Mac Donnehada. A great song

I KNOW A BRUINNEALI/N IS A MAIDEN. I DON'T RECALL THE GIST OF THE SONG, BUT I WILL GET BACK TO YOU. I THINK IT IS YOUR TYPICAL SONG IN IRISH EXPRESSING HIS LOVE'S PRAISES & HIS OWN TORMENT.BEIDH ME/ AG CAINT LEAT ARI/S!

John, Here ia a rather free translation of the above. My only assisance is a gentleman who studied gaeilge in The National Schools many fado.If no other takers, here's a go: Oh Mannered Maiden, you would raise a 1000 sighs in my heart As would mention 100 others who will never marry you as well. With your dear deceitful eyes and your quiet, slender submissive mouth You are my treasure, and if possible, with coaxing I Would win your heart.

Usually,I am back in a nook where no one can recognise me. remembering my love evenings and early mornings. In Great Gods Creation there is no better man. My treasure, don't turn your back on me. You are the maiden who has given me her love.

All you young fellows never marry the whole bunch of Women. For there is nothing in their voices but the sound of the torrent on the strand. May Loch Erin go dry and the swan forsake its plumage. Until the day I die I will never say the reason I gave you my love.

Loses something in my transation I will admit, but it may help a non-speaker get the gist of it. This is a love poem that begs to be sung or recited out loud in its native tongue.I have avoided Hiberno- English which can be silly and insulting. Sea/n 'acDhonncha is one of my favorite singers and An Spailpi/n Fa/nach is full of great songs.
