The NOMAD Festival will happen this year. We expect to be back in our pleasant (and, we hope, permanent) new home at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, Conn. The dates are not approved yet, but we are applying for the weekend of November 4-6.

We had some doubts earlier in the year about being able to carry on due to considerable attrition in the ranks of organizing committee personnel. Thanks to an excellent response to our appeal for help, we have been able to build up our staff and make plans for this year's NOMAD Festival.

We'll post further details as they are available. Thanks to all who responded to our appeal and thanks to all who helped spread the word.
We'll see you in November.

Regards,
John

So glad you're going to be able to make it happen.

The lack of people with both the skills and the will to organize a volunteer event is showing up in lots of areas. Our handcrafters guild is trying desperately to find enough nominees to elect a new Board and continue in existence, and they were about 3 months later than usual finding a chair to organize their biggest craft show for next fall.

With luck your new volunteers will feel so satisfied with the results of their work that they will want to keep it going.

That's great news! I wish I could offer help, but I am curently singing in two Male Choruses, besides the Gospel Messengers, and on my own. This week is typical for me... three practices, a nursing home and a program celebrating cultural heritage. Next week is even busier..

I'm just thankful for people like you, John and all the others who commit your time to making this happen!

For those who enjoyed the Gospel In Black, Bluegrass and Blues, Shoregrass will bring bluegrass gospel to the Messenger's 89th Anniversary concert this year on April 23rd, in Shelton, CT. We had such a great time with Barbara and Frank and the rest of the guys that we couldn't wait until the next Nomad to sing together again.

Thanks..

Jerry

I can't thank enough the volunteers who make this happen. Normally, I'd jump at the opportunity to lend a hand, but I've already got too much to do this year.

Thank you, thank you to all who are making this possible!!!

I told them I would help with publicity next time but can't chair any committees. The performers are all volunteers too.

Hey, Jer, you Gospel Messengers have been doing this for 89 YEARS??

Yep, Barbara... 89 years this year! And you wonder why we look so old?

Naw... it's really our 8th Anniversary (although Frankie will be 80 in May, and Joe will be 81 a few days later.)

This year, if the schedule will permit, it would be nice to have a gospel "Jam" following the Gospel In Black, white, blue and purple workshop.

Jerry

YIPPEE!! Like Kathy, I've volunteered to help from a distance, or put in some hours during the festival. I hope to offer a workshop or two, as well.

Only 8 months away!

Allison

Subject: RE: NOMAD Festival 2005 - Bill Clifton Songbook
From: GUEST,Jim Determan

Barbara,

I apologize, this is a complete tangent, but, I saw in one of your earlier postings that you have access to a copy of Bill Clifton's 150 Old-time Folk and Gospel Songs. I would love to get a copy of this book, even a xerox, if that would be possible. Please let me know if this can be arranged. I would gladly pay for it.

I have been searching for it on the Internet, including eBay and used book services, and other than a copy at a library in Virginia (I live in San Diego), yours is the only copy I've seen mentioned.

Thanks,

Jim

P.S. you can reply to me directly at determan@qualcomm.com

I ordered it directly from Bill and even got a hand-written letter from him with it. I'll look for it in the morning and get more info for you.

The contact info I have (from 1996) for Bill Clifton is probably out of date, but here it is:

Elf Records
P.O. Box 69
Mendota, VA 24270
(703) 669-6996

They may be able to point you to a more recent address and number. He also had a Rounder CD, so Rounder may be of some help locating the book, or Mercury-Starday or County. I thought I read somewhere that he moved to the UK, but to be honest I don't even know if he's still alive.
