Subject: Kate Bush - Boy George From: mindblaster Date: 21 Mar 05 - 09:42 AM Some bloke said last night that Kate Bush was Boy George's cousin. Also he said that she was discovered by Jools Holland at The Swan pub in Blackheath Road. I think that this is a load of cobblers. For a start I reckon Kate Bush was famous long before Jools Holland. Can anybody shed light on this? |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: GUEST Date: 21 Mar 05 - 10:00 AM Squeeze's (Jools' first succesful band) first single was released in July 1977. Wuthering Heights was released the following January. However her record company had been nurturing her for at least 3 years as they realised what a talent she was, and didn't want to rush and therefore spoil her. Incidentally, She wrote The Man With The Child In His Eyes when she was 13. That's not to say they hadn't met before, and you don't have to be famous to "discover" someone if you have the right contacts. I reckon by the time she was old enough to go to the pub legally, her career was well under way anyway. |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: JulieF Date: 21 Mar 05 - 11:03 AM Wasn't it Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd who 'discovered' Kate ? Julie |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: Wesley S Date: 21 Mar 05 - 11:09 AM That's what I thought I too. |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: mindblaster Date: 21 Mar 05 - 11:20 AM Yeh I thought it was Dave Gilmore too. But what about the Boy Gearge angle? |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: Long Firm Freddie Date: 21 Mar 05 - 11:27 AM Kate was discovered in 1973 (aged 15) by Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd, and like Guest says, was kept under wraps for a few years by her record company. Kate was born in 1958 in Bexleyheath, Kent, whilst Boy George was born not far away in Eltham three years later. I haven't found anything to suggest they're related, though. Kate's releasing a new album later this year after a break of twelve years. LFF |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: Sttaw Legend Date: 21 Mar 05 - 11:27 AM Its brother and sister or sister and sister! |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: GUEST Date: 21 Mar 05 - 11:37 AM Kate and her family lived for years in Court Road , Mottingham, London se9. Boy George lived in Eltham , London, se9. Jools Holland lived and played and drank in Blackheath , London Se10. All within two mile radius of each other, but no, none are related. And yes it was Dave Gilmour who nurtured Kate's early career. |

Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: The Unicorn Man Date: 22 Mar 05 - 08:42 AM And he is on the Red Shoes Album. There was a person who went to The Rose and Crown Session at St Albans every Thursday, I think he played the fiddle, so it all adds up, who is supposed to be related to Kate. Nephew or cusion, or something. |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: GUEST,guest of 11.37am Date: 22 Mar 05 - 09:01 AM She has a brother Paddy, who has played on most of her albums. He is older than her and used to play the folk clubs and also for an english morris side. He then discovered 'world' music in a big way and now plays almost anything and everything. |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: Richard Bridge Date: 22 Mar 05 - 02:26 PM I think she makes the nastiest noise of anyone who ever was called a recording musician. Shudder! He, on the other hand, could sing. |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: MuddleC Date: 22 Mar 05 - 08:00 PM Dear Richard, you are confusing Kate with that Icelandic Bjork noise, I suggest that you listen to 'Common Ground -voices of Modern Irish Music' (Donal Lunny) and rethink your entire existence.. |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: mindblaster Date: 23 Mar 05 - 03:11 AM She did a duet with Roy Harper on his "Once" album - awful |

Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: MuddleC Date: 23 Mar 05 - 05:02 PM Hey Martin, Robbie seems to think she's on tour on his planet... where do we get tickets??? |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: mindblaster Date: 24 Mar 05 - 03:32 AM So, they are not cousins, I take it? |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: Dipsodeb Date: 24 Mar 05 - 07:09 AM I know Boy Georges mum she was the cleaner at my nans nursing home.. but she never made any reference to being related to Kate Bush. As for 1 first aider for every 5 people at a festival LOL They would have to call all the festies BAND AID ;-) |

Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: Brakn Date: 24 Mar 05 - 08:35 AM Weren't Boy George's people from originally from Athlone in Ireland? |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: mooman Date: 24 Mar 05 - 10:03 AM I happen to like that Icelandic Bjork noise and so does The Viking (well he would wouldn't he!). Peace moo |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: GUEST,guest of 11.37am Date: 24 Mar 05 - 11:33 AM Boy George's mother was from Wellington St, Dublin. His father (O'Dowd) was also Irish, but can't remember where from, but it was the South. Kate Bush's mother was also Irish. And there the similarity ends. No, definitely unrelated. Both of fine voice though. But then again I also admire Bjork! |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: GUEST,guest of 11.37am Date: 24 Mar 05 - 11:34 AM Dipsodeb, Boy George sang at a nursing home as a kid, quite possibly your nan's one then. |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: Dipsodeb Date: 24 Mar 05 - 12:01 PM Yeah it's possible I know his brother used to go and help out on entertainment nights from time to time. But Boy George had already made it big then so on reflection I think it would be doubtful. I wonder how he would have gone down with a room full of pensioners LOL. |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: mindblaster Date: 24 Mar 05 - 06:42 PM I kmow that bloke LOL he resorded with kevin Ayers & The Damned |

Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: Richard Bridge Date: 25 Mar 05 - 06:59 PM If Kate Bush tours that other planet, can we make it a single ticket please? |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: GUEST,W Date: 26 Mar 05 - 01:53 AM BUSH? GEORGE? woss all this about then? |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: Hand-Pulled Boy Date: 26 Mar 05 - 08:47 AM Can't wait for the new CD. Any more info anyone? Kate has long been one of the UK's greatest talents although I can understand why some people may find her voice (and Bjork's for that matter) a little irritating. However, I love them both. I would even consider 3-in-a-bed with them although my wife wouldn't approve. |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: gnu Date: 26 Mar 05 - 02:54 PM Hmmmm. Something vague is tugging at my memory.... Kate and... Leonard Cohen? The absolute opposite of Boy. Am I dreaming? (Please forgive if already discussed... I didn't read all the posts.) |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: The Unicorn Man Date: 26 Mar 05 - 03:48 PM You really have no idea Richard, do you? |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: MurkeyChris Date: 26 Mar 05 - 09:14 PM I read today that Bill Jones learnt 'Handsome Cabin Boy' from a Kate Bush B-side. Wouldn't ye know it! Chris |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: GUEST,music lover Date: 27 Mar 05 - 06:06 AM Boy George is the result of an unatural coupling between Tiny Tim and Elton John, absolutely no relation to Kate Bush. |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: GUEST,Terry Duggins Date: 27 Mar 05 - 01:23 PM I have listen to Kate Bush for many years, before people in USA knew her, she was way ahead of her time in music. She is also a musicologist. And plays several instruments including piano. She can take a song and sing it in three parts if and make like a chamber choir- |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: MuddleC Date: 30 Mar 05 - 04:37 PM her 'Lagan Love' is also something to behold |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: Richard Bridge Date: 30 Mar 05 - 05:09 PM The difference, Martin, is called "taste". |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: Dave Masterson Date: 31 Mar 05 - 03:08 AM Aw, c'mon Richard & Martin, it's not about taste or lack of, it's called personal preference. There are only 2 kinds of music, (a) good and (b) bad, and like beauty, is in the eye (or ear) of the beholder. |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 31 Mar 05 - 07:02 AM She did a duet with Peter Gabriel too - 'Don't Give Up'???? Exquisite. |
Subject: RE: Kate Bush - Boy George From: The Unicorn Man Date: 31 Mar 05 - 07:29 AM Ahhhh. Yes Dave and Richard. There is good taste and bad taste. Baboshka, Yar, Yar. |
