Darlington Tuesday,I think at the Britaannia, can't remember Wednesday, Thursday singers with the Wilsons at Wolviston. i think the pub is called the Duke of Wellington, it's on the left as you go round the corner!! Also Darlington on thursdays at the Art Centre and I can never remember if the Coalpitts at Durham is on Thursday or Friday plus loads of other a bit farther away. |
Subject: RE: Looking for folk clubs in the North East From: Tig Date: 23 Apr 05 - 04:43 PM Friday night there is one at the Globe, Northgate, Guisborough - aka the Mudcat Watering Hole. Sign the Mudcat book if you go. |
Subject: RE: Looking for folk clubs in the North East From: Carol Date: 24 Apr 05 - 05:20 AM Searching on northeast folk venues gave quite a lot - banjo.bill has most of them but not all if you can get hold of a Folk Roundabout or manage to contact trevor the editor or Brian Colley at the Hartlepool club contact address they would know of others - boy I can remember when we could go out at least 5nights of the week within a 20 mile radius - that doesn't happen in Rawcliffe Bridge!! |
Subject: RE: Looking for folk clubs in the North East From: Young Buchan Date: 24 Apr 05 - 06:48 AM Brittania at Darlington is definitely Tuesday. Warning! The Colpitts is on Thursday but no longer at the Colpitts. Due to Sam Smith's Brewery policy of banning all fun from their pubs it has relocated to the Grange Foundry in Gilesgate Moor (just on the edge of Durham, facing Hartlepool!) Hartlepool is at the Tap and Spile. It's just that it hasn't been called that for about 10 years - ask for the Causeway on Stranton Green. You'd be very welcome, the more so since we're going through a low-numbers spell just at the moment. |

Subject: RE: Looking for folk clubs in the North East From: MoorleyMan Date: 24 Apr 05 - 11:35 AM Alan - your best bet is still first to get hold of a copy of Folk Roundabout, the contact address given in the mag is trevorl@ntlworld.com. It's one of the best regional mags, over 100 pages for just one pound still! And Trevor the editor's very helpful. Otherwise, from my own (limited) experience, the Sun at Stockton (Mondays) is just about the best of the area's clubs, and it's no-smoking which helps considerably; singing-wise, the Brit at Darlington (Tuesdays) is every bit as good (only snag is the club room's much smaller and fills up really fast). Most of the rest tend to allow smoking, unfortunately, but as clubs go they are superb, especially for singing - particularly the Hartlepool (at the Causeway) on Sundays (Brian's) and the Welly at Wolviston on Thursdays. The Colpits one at Durham was great, but I haven't been since its enforced relocation. And if you fancy a slightly longer trip while you're in the area, then there's The Bridge at Newcastle (Mondays), Ryton Village (Thursdays) - one of the country's finest clubs - and the awardwinning Davy Lamp (Washington) on Saturdays. Really, the North East is spoilt for choice! Happy landings! M |

Subject: RE: Looking for folk clubs in the North East From: John Robinson (aka Cittern) Date: 24 Apr 05 - 04:39 PM I can strongly recommend the Darlington FC in Darlington Arts Centre - great venue and a warm welcome. Hartlepool is the town of my birth - but it has been improved a lot since then .... |
