Hi, folks,

I attended a very pleasant concert last night--opening w/ Nancy Tucker & followed by Bill Staines. Both were a treat in their own ways! We mentioned the Mudcat site to them & I told Bill I'd post the URL for his homepage, so people can easily access his concert tour info. Nice people, good music!

I agree, I saw Bill in concert about 15 years ago in Bellingham Wash. This time he was paired up with Gordon Bok (I think, it was a long time ago!) Very different syles but both great songwriters! I love singing Bill's music! Never seen him come up to the Vancouver, BC area yet, though.....

I was in Elderly Instruments a few weeks back and looking through their LP clearance rack. I came across a Bill Staines LP titled "Bridges" recorded at The Coffee House Extemporé, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was recorded live July 15 - 17, 1983. Picked it up for a $1.00. Can't beat that.

All the best,

Big Mick

Bill Staines is a very gifted songwriter and troubadour. He drives approximately fifty thousand miles a year around the country. A warm and gracious person is he. Don't miss him when he comes to your area, always a treat.

Here's the information we are sending out to our members about the upcoming Bill Staines concert in New York City, on Thursday, May 10th at 8PM. If you are anywhere near us, come to this concert for a great evening. For more information e-mail: ukelady1@prodigy.net

For over 30 years Bill Staines has traveled back and forth across North America, singing his songs and delighting audiences at festivals, folksong societies, colleges, concerts, clubs and coffeehouses.

Bill has become one of the most popular singers on the folk circuit today and averages around 200 concert dates a year. Bill weaves a gentle blend of wit and humor into his performances, Singing mostly his own songs, his music is a slice of Americana, reflecting with the same ease his feelings about the prairie people of the Midwest or the adventurers of the Yukon.

Interspersed between his own songs, Bill also includes songs ranging from traditional folk to more contemporary country ballads, and delights in having the audience participate in many of the numbers. He is also acclaimed for his yodeling.

Many of Bill's songs, such as "River" and "All God's Critters Got a Place in the Choir," are well known to Pinewoods members.

Thanks for the details, Evy. Let me just add that if someone is not already a Pinewoods member, he/she can join on the night of the concert and get in for free. Well, that is free except for the annual dues.

Until last night I hadn't had the pleasure of attending a Bill Staines concert. It was great!! He was at O'Friel's Irish Pub in Wilmington Delaware and even though I was a little late (got some bad info on start times...), I heard his entire second set and the end of his first. He's a great story teller, with this calming voice and a guitar that looked like it was playing itself. What a talent!! I sure am glad I didn't miss it!!!

Encouraged by all this I bought a Bill S. CD (Million miles vol 2)when I was in London yesterday. Haven't played it all yet but thanks for the tip, enjoying what I've heard so far.

Any time listening to Bill weave his magic is time well spent. He is not only a dynamite songwriter and singer, but his stage persona (which is not at all removed from his real self) is friendly, kind and warm.

I was delighted to see his date in San Diego for May--I aim to be there. I don't like the home-page website design. No samples, no lists of his own songs, few pictures.

Looks like I posted the Sweet Wyoming Home link above without my cookie! Sorry about that.

I sing a few of his songs and love all 'em. He's got a nice, "here's my story, here's my song" sort of approach to his performances that I love.
