Subject: BS: Katlaughing-Surgery Tuesday morning and....
From: Alba
Date: 09 May 05 - 09:06 AM

Kat needs all the Good Wishes, Thoughts and Energy you can muster Folks.

Hi Everyone,

As some of you know Kat has been ill for some months now.

So after being tested, prodded, poked and generally looked at from every angle.
The Dream Team (Kat's name for her Cardiologist and Crew) have decided that Kat's Heart is not in such good shape and requires a replacement of the Aortic Valve.
So tomorrow 5-10-05 at 08.00 am (Mountain time) the Surgery will begin and should be finished by Noon. The Dream team estimate that Kat will be in the Hospital for about 1 week after the Surgery.

I have NO DOUBTS that all will go well and Kat, when recovered, will feel the SO much better...better than she has for quite some time.

This hasn't been an easy few Months for Kat. It is one thing to feel ill and not really know why (due to poor diagnosis over the Years) but quite another to be told just how ill you actually are by a good Physician. Then to find out what needs to be done to make you well again. Kat being Kat has faced this Life Road Trip with a determination and strength of Spirit that only the Kat we know could do:>) I am very proud of her.

So I am sending my dear Friend all the positive energy I can summon and will be holding her in the Light on this, perhaps the biggest lap on her Road to "Wellville"

She asked me if I would hold this post till the day before her Surgery as she has been working very hard on preparing for tomorrow and felt that it was best to remain as calm as possible leading up to the "Big Day" . She also has been very tired. physically and mentally...but her Spirit is Strong and so she has focused on getting in as good a shape as possible.

Here is a little message from the Woman herself:

"Thank you all so very much and please know that I love you all very much
and am so grateful for all we have shared and will continue to share as
I get better." Kat.

So...please join me in sending Kat, in your own way of course, nothing but Positive Thoughts and Love.
Kat's Daughter Rue will print this thread out for her Mum and make sure that Kat gets to see it.
"bet", Kat's Sister will no doubt keep us all up to date also. Thank you in advance bet.

I am looking forward to my Dear Friend being in the Pink again (oh and I will be starting another slightly lighter thread later today regarding that very issue and how, if you wish, you can participate in the "ILPFKD Day" (In the Pink for Kat Day).
Kat already knows I will be doing this and has many "In the Pink" things to take along with her to the Hospital Tomorrow.

So here's to You and your beautiful Heart ma Dear Kat.......I am sending you nothing but LOVE..
Pink Candles being lit at 10.00am here in the backwoods of Maine tomorrow.

Onward and upward Darlin. Heal well for there is much ahead for you to do.

Love to all of Kat's Family. You are all in my Thoughts.

Blessings, Light and Love
Jude

kat, I know you will be coming home from this feeling like a new woman. Just don't feel like a new man or Rog will be very upset!

You have nothing but my best thoughts and wishes for tomorrow. I'm sure Bonnie and Bibi will be sending their positive energy for you as you have for them in the past when they needed it.

Whole bunches of love,

jeff

Sending lots of love and healing energy from the Oz end of the world. By a happy coincidence, John and I had some Irish Stew made with Guinness tonight, and we all know Guinness is good for you. The Beef and Guinness Pie seemed to work well last time, so we'll send some more of that energy your way now. Get well soon!

To add a little.........Kat is as ready for this surgery as she is likely to get. They have done a thoughtful and complete work up, decided on a course of action, and followed it right along to this point. Combined with the belief she has in her Docs (her personal "Dream Team" as Alba said), this is how all surgeriess should be planned and thought out. So if we all send her whatever we can in good thoughts and all, she'll come throgugh great!!!

She and I have been friends here for 7 years and through all of my stuff she has been right there. Hope I can do her half as much as she got done for me. We have always talked several times a week and her voice right now sounds really strong and she's ready to get this done.

Spaw

Lots of good, positive energy from here too, kat. Funny how even a damaged 'physical' heart can house such a LARGE intangible spirit. You've given a lot, now you will receive a great deal in return. Be well swiftly, kat.

Hey there, sister girl ;-)

I know that however much you try, there's bound to be a few flutterbyes in your tummy in the morning. So, you are hereby ordered by The Gaelic Goddess to think of all your chums here on the 'Cat, all the people that love you, and to remember that a certain trio of wise souls are there right beside you every step of the way.

All I want for my birthday this year is to hear that you're feeling purty, flirty, and pinching the bums of all those handsome fellers you've got paying all that attention to you (I'm so green with jealousy!).

I love you muchly, and all thoughts here on Moon On The Hill are thinking of you.

Hogs and snugs, Áine ;-)

Darlin, the surgery is scary -- but probably more so for the people who love the person under the knife than the person actually riding that elephant down hill. (As Catspaw says, all you have to do is hang on.) But you are going to come out of it soooooooooo much better. It's amazing what a little bit of oxygen circulating in the blood does!

It's been just a week past a year since Tom had his valve job, tune-up and electrical work done -- aortic valve replaced and, while they were in the vicinity, they fixed the tri-cuspid, too. I'm sure your Dream Team will fix everything up just fine.

We'll be thinking good thoughts and sending all kinds of positive energy your way and we hope your recovery will go as smoothly a and quickly as Tom's.

Love ya lots,
Linn

All my best thoughts to you, kat.

I wrote this song about something else entirely, but then when another Mudcatter (Bat Goddess's Tom) was having heart surgery last year, it seemed to fit, and things worked out all right; and then I posted it when Vin Garbutt was having a heart operation, and he's due to be back performing on May 21st - so I don't think it'll do any harm to stick it in again:

Listen to your heart, hear it beating.
Down there in the dark, never sleeping.
Through lonely times and homely times,
and times that are so fleeting,
do you dare to listen to your heart?
Do you dare to listen to your heart?
Can you bear to listen to your heart?
You listen to yourself
when you listen to your heart.
Do you dare to listen to your heart?

Listen to your heart, can you bear to?
Down there in the dark do you dare to?
Through busy times and dizzy times
and times when yiou are scared to,
O so scared to listen to your heart.
Are you scared to listen to your heart?
Are you scared to listen to your heart?
You listen to yourself
when you listen to your heart.
Do you dare to listen to your heart?

Oh once I wore my heart on my shoulder.
Once I played the part of a soldier -
but now's no time for foolishness,
the time for that is over -
can you hear that whisper in your heart?
Can you hear that whisper in your heart?
Can you hear that whisper in your heart?
You listen to yourself
when you listen to your heart.
Do you dare to listen to your heart?

Listen to your heart, what it's saying,
down there in the dark, day out and day in,
through olden days, and golden days,
and days you feel like praying,
can you bear to listen to your heart?
Can you bear to listen to your heart?
Can you bear to listen to your heart?
You listen to yourself
when you listen to your heart.
Do you dare to listen to your heart?

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Katlaughing-A Spanking is Due
From: catspaw49 - PM
Date: 29 Mar 99 - 12:46 AM

I told you I'd be back.
Interesting theory on the sound of spanking buns; don't know if I buy it, but I would like to get to the bottom of it.

FIRST......

Leej ol' buddy, where have you been? We all, but especially me, get "Lonesome" without you!!!

Banj, you incredible dumbass. We are both several "pear" of foulups away from attaining that exalted 4-star rank of General F****P. But I think we're zinging along toward it at breakneck speed.

Sandy Paton: Damn Sandy, over on the Wasburn thread you asked me about Cletus. I bust my chops and run up my phone bill trying to track down the details and post them. Do you go back and read them??? And hey, this one is important. When you see Rick again, make sure he reads it too 'cause I NEED his help in my search. Then again, why would I expect you'll come back here? Oh well...

AND...My Best on Your Birthday Kath...uh,no...katlaughing.

Dearest kat,
You provide such warmth and spirit, compassion and excitement to this place...I've come to know you, and you me in this odd cyber way...but the friendship is real nonetheless. So many of our friends here on this thread...aren't you as amazed as I at how the cyber world works? But the 'Cat is real, the care and concern and love many of us feel for you and each other is real...and that matters most. Not a spanking, but a huge bearhug is what I'd give you if I could. But until we meet, you'll have to settle for words.

You always have such wonderful words for us, both your own and those favorites by others that you pass on...You are a person of good words and good deeds and for your birthday, and for the Sham's, and all of our Mudcat friends, let me pass on these words you probably already know from the Hindu text, the "Bhagavad-Gita."

In battle, in forest, at the precipice in the mountains,
On the dark, great sea,
In the midst of javelins and arrows,
In sleep, in confusion, in the depths of shame,
The good deeds a man has done before defend him.

Your good deeds and good words will cover nine lives...

Happy Birthday kat

Kat did always have 'thinkness' in her heart, (what a great expression) but I'm guessing you mean thickness and in that case, what could that mean? And the calcium, how serious is that? C'mon medical peoples, let's have some illumination before some of us fret ourselves silly!

News flash!
Kat is in intensive care now and is doing as expected. Family members have been in to see her but only 2-3 min. at a time, except Rog, he stayed longer. She is on a ventalator so is sedated for now.
I haven't talked to Roger but Rue sounds relieved though her ear is suffering from "phoneites". She's making sure Rog or someone is there when Kat is in need. Colin, Kat's son, had car trouble this morning as he was leaving to be with her, the clutch went out, but he will be down to see her this week-end. It sounds like she is in good hands and I know the good thoughts are plentiful. Thanks!!!! bet

First off Kat, thanks. I ended up with a great new pink night shirt ($3)from a sale rack....maybe pics to follow, It's a tad low....

And I spent the day today weeding in beautiful sun in preparing for the beautiful pink to come. It's still too early for my peonies to be anything but budded, but the weeds were going strong. The Mugwort is espectially invasive this year. Can't imagine why an herb associated with crone aged women and strong powers might be a tad bit pushy in the garden. BG   I found a few new self seeded pink flowers which I take to be a very good sign. I took the rose quartz and set it on the wings of a blue stained glass butterfly for the day. It sat glowing in the middle of the garden while I worked. I hopefully it sent it's good will on to you in your healing.

Yesterday I put in the annuals in the front on the side of the driveway and you guessed it. Pink with some dwarf daisy. I used a fun dwarf zinnia in bright pink and there's a large double rose geranium anchoring the front. I figure it'll keep things pink all through the summer healing season.

Thanks to bet and Rue for keeping us posted.

Hi Gang...........Just got off the phone with Rue and kat is doing just fine. They removed the vent and she's going through the post-op rigamarole. They monitor everything very closely as they go through the step-down process and everything looks pretty good. The excess calcium build ups are troubling but not uncommon and are most commonly associated with diabetic heart patients. In any case, they'll keep an eye on things and from the sound of things overall, she's comethrough the other side of the surgery in good shape. They are saying that she will probably be in regular cardio room by tomorrow sometime.

And speaking of "sounds"......She told Rue she heard her valve tick for the first time today. Most times you never notice or simply can't hear them. On the other hand they can at times be very loud. Trust me....not hearing it is worse!! LOL

Somebody will be around to post up any additional news but it sounds as though we'll be stuck with her for some time yet!

In her spirit she knew what her body needed - she just didn't have the heart to follow through with it.

SAD, Sad, sad!

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Did Kat get a mechanical valve? I hear they make noise. Tom has a pig valve. Quieter, I guess.

We're still trying to figure out how to load music into the defibrillator . . .

Glad to hear the recovery is going smoothly!

Kat's valve is mechanical Batty.....and yes they do "tick." Most of the time you can't hear them but at other times you're very aware of the sound. Sometimess other people can hear it and I can't or vice versa....all different acoustics I guess. Now if you don't hear the tick, THEN is the time to worry! I can generally hear it if I am some short distance away from a reflective suface like a hard wall, especially in a corner.....or right now as I'm facing the monitor screen.......tick...tick.....tick...tick....Yep, I am still alive!

The valves are made of metal and almost all are St. Judes valves. They send you a registration card which can come in handy at airports along with a doctor's letter.............

"Okay Buddy step over here. You got some kind of necklace or ID tag that's setting off the metal detector. Open your shirt.........HEY..What's that ticking noise? FRED!!!   Get over here.....This fucker's chest is ticking!!! Geeziz Fred, he's a crazy terrorist that's swallowed a gawddam BOMB!!   Whaddowewdo Fred? Okay, you shoot the asshole and I'll run like hell!!!!

I think the original problems with the metal valves was difficulty in attachment and the porcine valves in durability over time. In either case they beat the daylights out of an "original" that is stretched out!

Spaw

She says it's private, nice and big with a large bathroom and shower. She's been up and about with the physical therapist. Her only complaint was that she is VERY tired!!!!! She asks that you hold off calling her for a few days while she regains her strength. You are all very special to her and she's thinking of you and your warm thoughts throughout this time.

A wee update...
I spoke to Rue, Kat's Daughter for a little tonight. She sounded tired..bless her.

Kat has had a bit of a hard day. Post Op catch up I think.
She is exhausted and fragile which really is only to be expected after what she has gone through. Meds wearing off and Nursing Staff having to take Blood and generally check her out and have her walk around and sit up..all the things they gotta have you do. Got to get you back and at the World...but it sounds really exhausting.
Kat is ok though...but VERY tired.
Her "Dream Team" say she is doing just fine and everything is as it should be...so...let hope this difficult phase passes soon for her and she starts to feel a bit more comfortable very soon.

Maybe Spaw can remember what this stage felt like?
Then maybe I can better understand what is going on at this point after the Surgery. I'd appreciate that:>)

Kat Darlin. hang in there Sweetheart.
This too shall pass.
Holding you in my Heart and sending you all the Love and Light I possibly can. Candle burning in the Backwoods just for you tonight:>)
Blessed Be
Jude

Well Alba, a couple of things going on right now that make this the toughest period to get through. Most of the anasthetic effects are gone and the body is trying to figure out what the hell happened. Although bypasses and openheart stuff has become almost routine, it still is invasive as all hell! Think about it a minute........ A very strong bone, the sternum, has been split down the middle, the ribs prised apart as well as the sternum itself being spread. Think maybe you just got hit in the chest with a broad ax!

Then the other systems are invaded to the point where all breathing functions are taken over by machine and the circulatory system is on the heart/lung bypass for the length of the operation. NOW we have to reverse things and get all of that working again properly and that ain't no picnic! Kat is about to have the nurses getting hard on her case as they force you into an exercise program!

Thiswill not entail much but it does keep building on itself. They want you up and walking and coughing to keep your lungs clear and it really hurts. The best nurses are the toughest who can have compassion but refuse to take no for an answer. As a patient at the time, you kinda' want to kill them but afterwards you know it's their job. The more you do now, the sooner you get home and back to a real life. And you sure as hell don't want pneumonia.

Most know that my bypass was done open chest but my valve replacement was done on the DaVinci Robot and I did not have to have my chest split open again.   There is no comparison. 72 hours after surgery with the DaVinci, I was running around the hospital trying to corner my Doc and get my ticket punched to go home. 72 hours after open chest I was doing good to get to the end of the hall with Karen helping and my ass hanging out!!!!

The next 48 hours are pretty tough but it takes a quantum leap forward after that.

An Update!

I talked with kat at what must have been 6 AM her time, 9 AM eastern, and she sounded "just about right." She said the elephant ride was pretty rough over the past day but she is feeling a tad better this AM. I once made the analogy that heart surgery is a lot like riding an elephant downhill......Once it starts you just gotta' hold on 'cause there ain't no stoppin' it!

I told her it would improve over the next 48 hours and she said that is what the hospital folks are telling her as well. The Docs told her they are very pleased with the way things went and that she'll be fine after the recovery process. I made her promise she'd do her walks and stuff and she of course asked me to tell you all how much she loves you and thanks for the warmth and friendship and all that entails.

They also told her she will probably be going home on Tuesday or so. She also said Monday and I'd say either would be a possibility. So keep the good thoughts coming and she'll be back here in no time!

Spaw

bet-- remember that crying is often a much-needed healing release. If she cried with you, it means you were there for her, close enough to do what she needed from you.... it can be helpful, tho, to help someone at the end of the tears-time with a few bright questions about what she sees around her in the environment, to direct attention back into "nowtime".

Also, ref: deep anesthetic....it makes your taste buds go haywire, your hair go haywire....for about 6 mos. Nothing tastes right, and your hair will not cooperate...do NOT try to colour or get a perm for at least 6 mos. My mum said about her bypass that the removal of the leg (sapheous)veain was MUCH more painful than the chest. At least Kat didn't have to go thru that!

Another wee update:

Saturday was a bit better for Kat.
She was able to do a bit more up and walking about with the encouragement of the Nurses and I think she is relieved that they didn't send her Home, like, yesterday..that was a worry for her as she felt so weak.
So Tuesday is the Day as her Cardiologist came in a told her so:>)
I think she was also relieved to know that what she was feeling was normal Spaw:>)...great that you talked to her and put her straight there..xx
Kat is still shattered, but thanks to Spaw now 'I' understand the process and I am as worried. All is going exactly as it should...so that is very good news.
Kat is now holding onto the reins tightly and "riding the Elephant:>)"
So...things are going according to plan and I am thankful for that...very thankful.

Kat ma Darlin, your almost over the hump so hold on tight....cause MUCH better days are 'a coming...
Miss Ya and Love Ya and holding you in my Thoughts.
With so many Folks rooting for you and sending their Love....well it a certainty, ain't it Sis.

I am not a doctor; I just play one on the 'Cat.............

Actually folks I have learned a lot the hard way over the past ten years and I'd be happy to trade any knowledge I've acquired for the body I once had. In all truth, I am the classic case of "If I had known I were going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself." I honestly never believed I would live past 40 or 45 or have any reason/desire to do so........***sigh***.......As the saying goes, we get too soon old and too late smart. In any case.......

UPDATE....PLEASE READ

I called kat this afternoon and we had a long conversation. She is very tired and obviously somewhat disappointed that everything isn't healed already! The reality though as she is aware is that her body has yet to fully shakeoff the effects of anasthesia and the surgery itself. I was always fortunate to be a very fast healer but you can't force it or rush it. Her Docs are pleased with the way the surgery went and how she is doing now. I hate it when Medicos tell you you are doing great and you feel like shit. Makes me want to grab them and say, "Okay then motherfucker....Let's have a cosmic body swap and you lay here and do great.   I'll take your Porsche out for a 'Proficiency Run' to Cleveland and maybe catch an Indians game!" But it's true, kat is doing well and things will improve over time, but I'm sure a bit slower than what she'd like.

Several factors will cause things to proceed a bit more slowly. First she has to shake off the anasthesia and start eating some food. I told her to have the nurses bring her anything that sounds good or even edible no matter what the time. She needs to be walking 4 times a day at least for short distances

In kat's case too, her condition has been far longer term than just a few months. This problem ahs been getting worse and making her weaker and weaker for years. It won't take that long to fix but she'll first have to get back to the strength she was at last week. Then she can get a bit more aggressive and start building on what the new valve can give her.

They will also have to spend some time getting the Coumadin level right. It's the blood thinner and she'll always be on it but it can also cause some tiredness depending on what the INR number is. Vitamin K kills Coumadin and much of what kat eats (green and leafy) contains lots of K. The key here is to be consistent in eating and adjust the Coumadin dosage around that. You just don't want to be too high in the dosage.

With reasonable exercise and food, in just a very few months, kat will be much stronger and far better off than she has been in years. Completely healed with properly adjusted meds and on a decent diet and exercise regime, she'll be around for many years to drive both Morgan and Roger nuts! BTW...that Morgan boy got a set of lungs on him!!!! Kinda' like Mario!

So be sure to include a few extra good thoughts for just a little while longer. She's on the road and there's good times just around the bend!

Spaw

It will take time! I was told that the effects of anasthesia stay with ya for up to a year after surgery. So, be patient--and realize that you are just that--a patient.

MONDAY AFTERNOON

Just got off the phome with kat who had just seen her Docs and she is much stronger today and feeling better overall. They boosted he O2 level and that helped. They figure they can ween her from daytime oxygen in perhaps a month or so and that will be pretty wonderful for someone who has used it for so long.

When I called she was in the middle of a doctor visit and said to call back in about 15 minutes.   I did and again we had a pretty long talk before she said she was wearing out. I was really impressed with how long it took her to wear out this time and how much better her spirits are in general. She also sounds much better about being willing to push herself and THAT is the best news of the day. Kat was so focused on this operation and even her Docs have said how well focused she was. Believe me, it is sooooo easy to get discouraged and expect too much too soon. I think our girl has it back on track now and has quit fighting the elephant.

Rog and Rue.....I have tried to get in touch with you guys several times but I'm not sure I'm using the right numbers. My addy book is always screwed up and I constantly call kat getting numbers and addresses.......I am pathetic! In any case if you want to talk or touch base, call me anytime (I almost never sleep) or PM me the number(s) where I can reach you. I figure the two of you are worn out as well so I hope you're taking some time for yourselves.

Seems like Spaw does the Day shift with the no shit advice and encouragment and gets the facts (and boy is it working or what Spaw:>)xxx) and I come in on the backshift for the end of day report...lol

The news tonight is that Kat will be in Hospital till Wednesday as they have decided she needs a little more rest time. She is happy about this.
She walked more today and has been taking Spaw's advice...well hell why wouldn't ye take advice from someone who has been there and back again...
She has managed to eat a good dinner and other food she fancied today and is feeling stronger...
So all reports tonight are:
Doing well, coming along nicely, still weak but fighting the comeback round now..and doing much better than she was over the weekend...Thankfully.

Blessing to all

I talked briefly with kat yesterday afternoon and all was still on schedule for her release today. Let's keep up the help that you have all been during this so far. Still not a lot sounding good in food to her so maybe if you have any suggestions, especially veggie related??? Maybe we ought to start a thread? Hmmmmm.......I'll think about that.

Anyway, she's doing pretty well overall and now it's more a matter of time along with exercise and nutrition. And frustration. Not often mentioned is the frustration. You've gone through the pain parts and now you feel like you deserve to feel good......NOW!!! Even those who recover quickly want more and faster. The frustration leads to depression and nobody needs that. Being home helps but at times becasue you're still not upto par, thjat can be equally frustrating. Plus I used to feel so guilty about what I was putting Karen through in all of those different surgeries.........geeziz.......Thing was that when I told her that she looked at me as if I were nuts......simpleass woman said she just wanted me alive!

and there were a lot of other people with the same thought in mind 'spaw! Well-wishers around the world - just as there are now for the laughing kat. I mentioned kat's surgery at a party the other night - and there were four other causal 'catters there who all expressed concern.

Despite some of the fools and their foolishness, this is a big part of what The Mudcat used to be like. It is good to see old friends, and new ones that get it, all rallying around one among us who has a struggle. Makes me remember.

Keep it up, sweetie. Do what they tell you, and know that we are pitching for you from everywhere the sun rises.

Love ya,

Mick

I've found that most vegetables are improved by simply roasting or grilling them. Toss with some extra virgin olive oil, sprinkle with a little salt and pepper and stick in a hot oven until tender. It concentrates the flavors rather than diluting them as boiling or steaming tend to do. Asparagus becomes ethereally delicious, as do onions, especially sweet ones. We recently tried beets this way. Yummy!!

As far as Miss Thang's appetite is concerned, I'm sure food will look and taste better when she's in her own house. I've got bunches of great veggies recipes that I can bombard her with!

That's fantastic news that she might be able to live without that oxygen tank at her side! Unlimited freedom for our favorite feline . . . is the world ready for this? ;-) You betcha!!!

Thanks again for all the updates everyone. Pink Rules ;-)

Love and hugs to all here and especially to Miss Thang -- You'll be home real soon, darlin' -- so hang in there.

All the best, Áine

Well Folks, kat didn't make it home as expected. A slight setback, but one that is not all that rare either. Her heart went into A-Fib yesterday after a walk and I got a call from Night Owl that kat was worried (as was Jackie) although the Docs had been reassuring. For your benefit as well, let me explain that Atrial Fibrillation is a common side effect of open heart surgery. But when we hear the word "fibrillation" we all tend to go a little batnuts a a result of too much TV.

What happens is that instead of the atrium getting a single electrical impulse, it gets hundreds to the node and hence fibrillates. Although there are several types of A-Fib, the most common type is not especially life threatening and thousands of us live with it daily. This is not anything like Ventricular fibrillation problems like V-Tach (Ventricular Tachycardia) which are life threatening rhythms. In kat's case it is probably the result of the surgery , the hearts way of rebelling at being messed with so much. They will keep an eye on kat's situation and she may be on a med temporarily or perhaps longer to keep the A-Fib controlled. It will hold her release a bit but this is not a major setback by any means and when I talked with kat last evening, she pretty well understood and what was very encouraging was that her voice really sounded good and strong, very normal. (I won't tell you about the hilarious conversation we had earlier when she was super tired and falling asleep as we talked)LOL

Keepthe good thoughts coming and our girl will be home soon.

Thanks for the update Spaw.
Folks just so you know..I know NOTHING about A -Fib and all the Medical terms so Catspaw has been kind enough to explain to me (on several occassions) what is happening when a term comes into the recovery that I don't understand.
I got spooked yesterday morning as Kat didn't sound so hot but after an explanation from Spaw my anxiety level dropped.
I won't post something I know nothing about...Ill leave that to those that have been there and rode the "Elephant"

So more TLC at the Hospital Kat ma Darlin,
THEN Home...
Seems your Elephant riding abilities are getting better and better!
Is a job as an Elephant rider in the Circus in your future...:>)
All is as it should be thankfully..
Love and Light and Calm Thoughts coming your way.
Blessings to all
Jude

Pink? Elephant???? Spandex? What the hell happened here anyway? This is beginning to sound like one of the old Tavern threads! I mean like when do the flamingos get roasted and has anyone filled the lime Jell-O pit or oiled the hinges on the Virtual Door? Geeziz........Pink Spandex...........Hmmmmm, then again, I'll mention them to El Swanno 'cause I think his fishnets have had it.........

Anyways..................

The Docs were in and she has her scrip and will be going home this afternoon!!!   Another few days and perhaps we'll hear from her directly. It's hard for her to believe the amount of folks out there who are all pulling for her even though she's been on the other side of this many times. I have PM's and e-mails from at least 15-20 'Catters who have been following along here and even got a few phone calls from others. Mostly they are older members who have tired of the crap around here anymore......and that's a shame. What can I say?

Lemmee be the first to say THIS:

WELCOME HOME KAT !!!

I talked to Kat in hospital this morning and she is groggy but looking forward to having familiar folks and things around her and close at hand.

Well folks, it'll be three weeks come tomorrow and I am still here.:-) Slow going, but here and still very, very grateful. I don't have any reserves of energy, yet, so what I do have is going to walking, tiny bits, and keeping everything else on an even keel. I promise I'll get back here more often as soon as I am able.

Please know that I am growing stronger everyday and am so very fortunate to have the well wishes and care of you, such a WONDERFUL bunch of Folks. It's just awesome and I feel overwhelmed by it all, at times. Thank you, everyone so very, very much.

LOL, Sorcha, just a sort of wobbly line right down the cleavage, but he did such a good job it looks as if there will hardly be any scar.:-)

I met with the surgeon, yesterday. He said everything looked and sounded good and he doesn't need to see me for two months! One thing no one warned me of was what seems to be a common side effect...depression. In the past two weeks that has been harder to deal with than anything, plus some darn bug picked up from gawd-knows-where. We're treating the depression, hope the meds kick in, soon. In the meantime, thanks, again, my dear friends.

Yea to the meds for the bug, but, they also have meds for the bugaboo. Although I normally wouldn't condone such meds, but, perhaps they might have merit in this situation, for a short while. Anyway, I am sure you know best.

Keep that chin up, my dear. We're all pullin' for ya, eh what? Double thoughts and prayers at you. Heal well.

After Tom's valve replacement, he was doing just grand. But I was the one who needed anti-anxiety meds!

Take care, Kat. We're just so glad you're healthy again. I'll have to call you and tell you about the 39 ladyslippers at the head of the driveway and our adventures gluing the house back together (if it ever stops raining).

I understand the depression is fairly common after such surgery -- the meds will kick in (and then joy at being healthy will kick in).

Thinkin' about ya!

There is a huge silly yellow lab sitting where ever he will be most in the way and cowering at the approach of Ed the Cat. Meantime, Alice with tail UP, sashays back and forth hoping for a lick or a cold nosed goose. Hope the picture makes you smile.
