Thought it might be funnery
To build a guitar of punnery...

6. Perfect tonewood for a Lent guitar

7. Luthier: "Well, I'll provide the upper and lower bouts, the neck, tuners, basically everything, but if you're a physician, you'll have to provide this for thyself."

8. Mary had a little lamb
Tied it to a heater,
Every time it turned around
It burned it's little ______

9. One who does not have

10. Headlines might read thus if the junior Hoosier Senator were to send his son to Notre Dame (or move to North Dakota, for that matter)

11. Closer than I'd like

12. Caroline Sydenstricker

14. Difference between a guitar and a horse-riding cowboy? On the guitar these two are about 25 inches apart. But the horse-riding cowboy? ….the thickness of a pair of jeans.

15. Tie up Mr. Serling

16. Tonewood to dance around in the Spring

I still like my #10. Good Bayh, Good-bye, and Good buy. But that's a tough one. Maybe someone else can do something with Bayh, fighting Irish, possibly Birch (grandpa), South Bend...

#10 is the most unlikely of the whole bunch (i prolly shouldn't have included it!) -- you're actually on the right track. I imagined (fertile mind that I have) a headline of "Bayh ND-ing" or binding. When you add "Evan" into the mix you could even stretch it to "Evan Bayh ND-ing" or, "ebony binding".

I will accept my punishment, however harsh.
