Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: GUEST Date: 25 May 05 - 06:26 PM I'm pleased they won, but I always thought the goalkeeper was supposed to remain still. The Liverpool goalie was jumping, dancing and waving his arms about. |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: GUEST,Jon Date: 25 May 05 - 06:52 PM Yes. Congratulations to Liverpool. I had hoped they would win but I must admit that like GUEST above, I did have doubts about the Liverpool goalies actions. As well as the moving, I think he was way off his line on the second one. Unfortunately, I didn't watch the game (got caught up in a job outside that took longer than expected) and only caught the shoot out. I can't help feeling AC Milan are probably kicking themselves - loosing a 3-0 lead is not clever - but I'd imagine the comeback must have been very exciting for Liverpool fans (and relatively impartial watchers too). |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: Anglo Date: 25 May 05 - 06:56 PM Exciting for everyone - we got the game this afternoon in the States. 3 goals in 6 minutes for the comeback - I missed the first minute and a half of the game, and consequently missed the first Milan goal. Well done 'Pool - now to get them into next year's competition... |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: Bainbo Date: 25 May 05 - 06:59 PM If Milan are kicking themselves, I hope they didn't get Serginho to do the kicking. Arf! Arf! |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: GUEST,Seaking Date: 25 May 05 - 07:32 PM I wonder what odds you'd have got at half time for a Liverpool win. Any bets on them re-releasing 'You'll never walk alone' before the end of the week ? Anyway, well done Liverpool. |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: The Shambles Date: 25 May 05 - 07:33 PM There was something stopping the ball going over the line at that end. The ghost of 'Crazy Hourse' perhaps? The Milan players thought the game was won at half-time - and if we are honest - so did we.......... Do they give Everton's place to Liverpool for next year? *Smiles* |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: gnu Date: 25 May 05 - 07:38 PM Wow. My voice is hoarse... and I was watching the game alone. |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: Leadfingers Date: 25 May 05 - 07:49 PM Interesting little statistic - Milan have NEVER won this competition if there has been an African player in the opposing team !! |

Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: George Papavgeris Date: 25 May 05 - 11:33 PM Wonderful comeback, wonderful match. In answer to GUEST further up - the goalkeeper is not supposed to move off his goal line but he can move left-right; which is what Dudek did. |

Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: Liz the Squeak Date: 26 May 05 - 04:29 AM What a turnaround... usually the Brits excel in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, but not last night!!! (Former Everton supporter, but gracious in defeat) LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: The Shambles Date: 26 May 05 - 11:04 AM How about a Liverpool -v- Everton play-off - for the Champion's place? |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: alanabit Date: 26 May 05 - 12:52 PM The best European Cup Final I have ever seen. Milan were a bit unlucky, but what a heroic comeback. I thought Liverpool were dead and buried at half time too. They are well short of being the best football team in Europe, but I can't think of anyone with more character. Bloody marvellous! |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: Den Date: 26 May 05 - 12:59 PM At last Steven Gerard steps up to the plate, so to speak. This guy finally earned his money IMO. What a cracking goal too. Unbelievable stuff that makes this arguably the best spectator sport in the world. |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: George Papavgeris Date: 26 May 05 - 01:41 PM Sure, SG is as good a team captain as Keegan ever was. My apologies to gnu for the bold above, didn't mean it as shouting, I just wasn't sure if he was familiar with football. And it turns out I was wrong (about Dudek moving off his line), but I had only seen the "frontal" version. Still - a great night for Liverpool. |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: gnu Date: 26 May 05 - 02:10 PM I never said anything about Dudek being off the line until I PM'd you. I was one of those who voted "yes" at half time, although it was more because it was a possibility rather than a probability. I have cheered Liverpool since we started getting televised games here about five years ago. Upon review of the tape just a moment ago, this time frame by frame: when the ball is struck, Dudek's left foot is on the ground between two and three feet from the line, his body is forward of that and his right foot is above the ground and forward of his body. His right foot then contacts the ground about five feet from the line. Even in slow motion, it's hard to tell the position of the right foot when the ball is struck. But, I think it's safe to say he was about four feet from the line when the ball was struck. The bottom line (forgive the pun) is that ref didn't blink an eye and nobody complained. I just Owen had been playing. I miss watching him. |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: gnu Date: 26 May 05 - 02:11 PM Ooops. I just *wish* Owen had been playing... |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: George Papavgeris Date: 26 May 05 - 02:24 PM Nah - I wish I had been playing. The result might have been different though! |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: Den Date: 26 May 05 - 03:37 PM LOL El Greko. Do you think you would have wanted to take a penalty though. Its an awful long lonely walk to place that ball. |

Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: gnu Date: 01 Jun 05 - 03:53 PM A hat trick for England! Like I said. I miss watching the little fellow run... like the wind. Unfortunately, it was not telecast here. And, yes, I DO know it is the calibre of the rest of the team that made it possible. |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: GUEST,banjoman Date: 02 Jun 05 - 05:40 AM I think I was the only person along with Phil Thompson who kept belief at half time that Liverpool would win. I have watcjed all of their previous finals but this one surpasses them all in every aspect. One member of my family walked out at half time stating"This is boring and the rsult is already knowm" What a comeback and what a team led by England's best player. As to next season - well if they don't play in the Champions League, then it becomes a farce. Liverpool can say "We never lost it on the field -it was taken from us by the beuracrats" Revel in the glory for the moment and we'll sort out next season when it comes -what odds for a major uprise in Liverpool FC's fortunes in the Premiership next season?? |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: The Shambles Date: 02 Jun 05 - 06:00 AM How about a combined Everton/liverpool team - for the next Champions League? |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: GUEST,Liverpool Lou. Date: 02 Jun 05 - 07:30 AM It has taken me all this time to recover from the greatest game of football in the history of the sport.Just out of interest you could have got odds of 84/1 in the 52nd minute when the Pool were 3-0 down. But on the 54th minute (Gerrards' goal) odds were slashed to 15/1 these bookies don't like taking any chances where our boys are concerned. Respect to a friend of a friend who backed them at 88/1 before the competition started and has been AWOL since collecting. Finally, apologies to Rafa Benitez for all the negative things I have said about him over the last gruelling season.Shanks and Paisley would be proud of yer'.All those Man U fans slagging off Jerzy remember he goes down in history as a goalkeeping legend now -when was the last keeper you had who won you a European Cup? Carrying on playing catch up - only 3 more to go! Liverpool 4 Ever. |

Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 03 Jun 05 - 04:00 PM The ones I'm sorry for are the Liverpool fans who went out to Instanbul, but left at half-time because they thought it was all over, and they couldn't face the pain of a second half with Milan walking over their team and scoring again and again. They'll never live it down. In fact they'll probably never admit it to anyone, and live in fear that some day some one is going to tell on them. I was in a bar overin Cahir in Co Tipp at the time, where everyone was supporting Liverpool except the lad in the Pizza restaurant. But by half time, after that third goal, I was the only one still in the bar, so I went off to do some work, and only heard about the second half in the papers next day. Mind, how I think it was is, the way it works that when there's your team desperately needs to score it seems that sometimes you can bring it about by leaving the room to make a cup of coffee. Or as, a writer in the Irish Examiner next day put it, kids get their mother to hoover in front of the screen to block their view. So the people who missed the second half have a claim to have swung the match. |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: gnu Date: 03 Jun 05 - 04:17 PM I almost gave it up, but the half-time internet vote question was, (I shortened the wording), "Can Liverpool come back? Yes or no.". I voted 'Yes' because it didn't leave room for answering, 'Yes, but not fucking likely ya daft bastards... not after what we saw in the first half. Are you touched in the head?'. So, at that point, I asked myself, 'If THEY can score three in the first half, why can't Liverpool score four in the second half?' and I decided I would watch the game no matter what happened... never walk alone, eh? |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: GUEST,gnu Date: 05 Jun 05 - 07:54 AM I see on the TV listings here that UEFA Women's Championships: England vs. Finland, is on TV today. Is this tournament followed by many in England? Is women's football? |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: The Shambles Date: 05 Jun 05 - 01:50 PM It is not so much the football - but many do look forward to the shirt swapping at the end of the matches...... |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: gnu Date: 05 Jun 05 - 02:37 PM I watched a bit of the Denmark vs Sweden game. Good football. And goooood lookin' women. I'd get a red card just for what I was thinking. |
Subject: RE: BS: Liverpool: Champs From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 05 Jun 05 - 07:36 PM The womens England-Finland game today was a bloody good one too, no joking. Almost as remarkable a result at the end as the Liverpool match, in its way, with two goals in the last two minutes. Here is the web site. |
