I found this in the DT. Any info about it would be welcome. Who sent it in? Where's it from? etc.

AUCHINLECH

'Tis as I gaed up by Auchinclech
And doon by Skittlechyachit
There I heard a fiddle play
'Lassie will ye tak it?'
She's up wi' her petticoats
An' I cuist aff my jacket,
An'O what a jolly nicht
At thumpin' at it nakit

I think it's probably taken from a medley of "mouth tunes and nonsense rhymes" sung by Frank Steele on Scottish Tradition 1, Bothy Ballads: Music from the North-East (School of Scottish Studies; originally Tangent, re-issued on cd as Greentrax Recordings CDTRAX 9001).

I wish people would say where they got things from, but some can't remember, and others don't seem to think it matters.

There's no listing for this song in the Roud Index or in the Traditional Ballad Index. Anybody know it, or know about it?

It would appear to have aberdeenshire connections if i remember rightly there is a remnant of a stone circle near Auchinclech.

It's Auchinleck. An estate in Ayrshire that was the property of James Boswell and his son Sir Alexander Boswell. I would guess that Burns either wrote it or collected it.

Spelling variants will make this one a bear to track.
