Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: GUEST Date: 20 Jun 05 - 05:27 AM I don't suppose he'll be bringing the whippet/s? |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jeri Date: 20 Jun 05 - 06:57 AM Whippet? Whippet good! I'd like to meet them too. Whippets seem to be such gentle dogs...or as gentle as dogs get. SINS, I'll PM you later, but you KNOW I'll be there. Tell me there's no room, and you'd better lock the bathroom window! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: GUEST,MMario Date: 20 Jun 05 - 08:05 AM you lucky, lucky people! |

Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: JedMarum Date: 20 Jun 05 - 10:46 AM Whippets are sweet and gentle dogs, if you're not a furry little creature! They know they were born to kill furry little creatures. It's so funny. And I've never seen dogs who hate cats so much - they don't want to just chase them, they're actually pissed off at them! LOL - I think maybe they see them as competitors. I am sure they could learn to live with them, though - if you teach them carefully, and early enough. HEY - Yeah! I'm looking forward to coming to Maine! Thanks SINS! My wife, Louisa is coming too - she'll be with me for the later part of this trip, so I'll pick her up at the airport and head North. There's a radio DJ in Portland who plays tracks from MILES and from an earlier CD or two. I'll have to dig up his name, and send him a note. Maybe we can get him to show up too. My friend Billy Dunlop embarked from the harbor in Portland on his solo trans-Atlantic voyage - in a 9' sail boat called the WIND'S WILL. He also left from there on his attempted circumnavigation in 1982 (Billy got lost at sea off the coast of Australia in 1983). Maybe I should look up his family while I'm there ... Anyway - see y'all soon! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: GUEST Date: 20 Jun 05 - 12:29 PM The whippets are welcome. My cats have cut their teeth on the likes of Seamus, Clancy, Rocky and a few others of the canine persuasion. No kidding folks, reserve your seats early. I have a few non-music Mainers who will want to attend and I prefer to offer the slots to my Song Circle regulars...hear that, Jeri? heh heh. MMario, come for the Lobster Boil. It promises to be an event to remember, a mini-Getaway even. SINS |

Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jeri Date: 22 Jun 05 - 06:14 PM "Coming directly from work" may be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on where "work" is. If Jed starts at 6, I'm going to miss some things, including the "eating" part. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: SINSULL Date: 22 Jun 05 - 07:26 PM Food starts at 6PM. Jed starts when he's ready - 7-7:30 is my guess. And we will save some goodies for you. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: kendall Date: 22 Jun 05 - 08:14 PM Jeri, I'll save some creamed onions for you. Maybe even some stuffing. LOL |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: SINSULL Date: 22 Jun 05 - 09:55 PM Fuck you, Kendall!!!! Sorry, Jed. Kendall just won't let it go and I have to watch that damn dog this weekend! |

Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: ranger1 Date: 23 Jun 05 - 07:45 AM I'll definitely be there, and Jason WILL be coming, if I have to call in sick for him! Oh, and would those be creamed onions with bernaise sauce? |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: jacqui.c Date: 23 Jun 05 - 07:52 AM Nice one Tami! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: ranger1 Date: 23 Jun 05 - 08:43 AM Yeah, but I'd better blend in with the furniture, or I'll be in the basement with Kendall (eek!). |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: SINSULL Date: 23 Jun 05 - 08:04 PM In my house thewre are multiple kitty litters in the basement and I don't have to clean them. You two are in serious trouble. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: JedMarum Date: 28 Jun 05 - 04:08 PM I've invited a couple of Portland area folk DJs to give you a call, SINS - if they're interested/able to come. I asked them NOT to annouce the concert on their shows. On MILES FROM HOME - track #8 Wind's Will is the story of my friend Billy Dunlop. He lived not too far from you, and embarked from your harbor. I'd like to contact his wife and let her know. I'll ask her to call you if she plans to come (I doubt it - but it's possible). I will be coming to your place right from Logan, after picking up Louisa (I warned her about Kendall, but she's coming anyway)! I'll call you when we're enroute. I'll be gone most of the month of July - but will check in on this thread as I get a chance ... See y'all soon! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: GUEST,SINS at work Date: 28 Jun 05 - 04:20 PM The local paper says they will cover this too. Now I will have to clean my house. DAMN! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: SINSULL Date: 29 Jun 05 - 09:14 PM Has Big Mick seen this? It would be wonderful to host a Beef Brothers Reunion. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Ebbie Date: 29 Jun 05 - 09:43 PM I used to have a pair of greyhounds, both from off the track. They were kneejerk-efficient cat killers. It must be because they are bred to try to catch little furry things. When there is suddenly a cat in front of them that doesn't have the experience or sense to know its danger, the outcome is foreordained. I don't know if whippets have the same psychological bent but I would NOT trust them within eyesight of any cat I prized. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: GUEST,Big Mick Date: 30 Jun 05 - 09:42 PM I am working on it. All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: JedMarum Date: 07 Jul 05 - 05:38 PM Mick and Kendall? I am not sure I can bring my wife to such a place. She'll never forgive me!! ;-) hope to see y'all soon. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jeri Date: 07 Jul 05 - 05:50 PM Regarding Beef Bros reunion, ya gotta get Paul down from TO to be thorough. He's probably really busy and somebody would have to kidnap him. Somehow, I don't think he'd be as tickled to be kidnapped as Mick or Jed might be. Kendall now has adult supervision. Mick is... I don't know what you're gonna do about Mick. Bring CDs. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jeri Date: 07 Jul 05 - 05:55 PM Jeez...what was I thinking? Adult supervision? Jacqui? Oy. Jed, just prepare to be unforgiven for life. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 07 Jul 05 - 06:04 PM Sorry I can't be there, Jed... break a leg... But carefully.. Jerry |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: JedMarum Date: 07 Jul 05 - 06:04 PM Jeri - did you get an email from me? |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jeri Date: 07 Jul 05 - 06:12 PM Jed, no. Did you get a bounce message from my former ISP? You want a PM? |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: JedMarum Date: 07 Jul 05 - 06:14 PM Yes - please sned me a PM. You probably have the info you need - but I want to be sure I have your correct email addy - and mine has been sooo unreliabel lately. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Big Mick Date: 07 Jul 05 - 08:27 PM Jeri, just to be safe, after you sned him, you might send him. Wait,......you can't do either because Louisa will be present. Mick |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jeri Date: 07 Jul 05 - 08:59 PM You-oo-oo-oo sned me, Darlin' you-oo-oo-oo sned me... Mick -- 2... 3... 4... Got the e-mail you snet. I'll be in Boston on the 14th, but I'll be acquiring proof that my brain exists so I probably won't make the gig. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Amos Date: 07 Jul 05 - 09:05 PM Jeri: Who are you calling a snet? I've never known Jed to even be IN a snet, let alone become one his own self! :D A |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Big Mick Date: 07 Jul 05 - 09:18 PM Jed ....... We need to convene a meeting of The Beef Brothers and take a vote. You know how the Black Family has a number of configurations ie Black Family Reunion, Black Brothers, etc based on who is available? I was thinking. Mebbe we have a configuration for when Jeri is around. We would call it ....... Just a thought...... snerk. Mick |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: JedMarum Date: 07 Jul 05 - 10:31 PM LMAO Sneding can be sooo unreliabel too! LOL I truly AM typographically challenged! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: jacqui.c Date: 07 Jul 05 - 10:53 PM jeri - "Jeez...what was I thinking? Adult supervision? Jacqui? Oy.?" Thank you for the wonderful compliment. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jeri Date: 08 Jul 05 - 06:51 AM Yer welcome Jacqui, but I was only trying to wriggle myself out of the inadvertent insult. I figure the stages of life are 1) being a kid and needing supervision, 2) acting like an adult and attempting to supervise others, with or without their appreciation, 3) acting like an adult but wishing you could act like a kid, and 4) aw, the heck with rules - I'm gonna have some fun! The faster a person can go from 1) to 4), the happier they are, I believe. Call it what, Mick? I don't know where you're going with that, but you're probably in trouble. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: GUEST,MMario Date: 08 Jul 05 - 08:07 AM more and more regretting this is impossible for me. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: JedMarum Date: 01 Aug 05 - 09:43 AM I've made the tough decison to leave behind the banjo and the hi-tuned backpacker (just have too mu gear for the plane rides up and back). Kendall threatened to bring along his banjo, so maybe I could borrow it for a song or two .... It should be a good trip, and i am really looking forward to visiting at Sinsull's. See ya soon! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: GUEST,Dani Date: 01 Aug 05 - 09:53 AM Well, damn it. Tinker and I are on the way out of Sins' driveway right now. I've fallen in love with Portland/South Portland, and would cheerfully stay for this if I could. You're going to have a grand time, Jed (and all!). Dani |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: kendall Date: 01 Aug 05 - 10:00 AM Jed, you are also welcome to my Taylor. |

Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: jacqui.c Date: 02 Aug 05 - 12:15 PM We'll be there with Seamus - you've then got him for the weekend. See how good we are to you! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Tinker Date: 02 Aug 05 - 03:15 PM I know I can't do this twice in a month, but I just noticed that on the 13th he'll be in my hometown. Hmmm, well I can try to work something out... it's only half the distance. Maybe folks will be a little healthier then. But I won't get to see Jeri that way.... UGH IF we could just get that clone thing up and working and Bert's credit card working outside the Tavern...... Have a great time all.... |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: SINSULL Date: 02 Aug 05 - 03:45 PM Tinker, Is that a "No"? |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: MMario Date: 02 Aug 05 - 03:45 PM Tinker - isn't he in Jersey this week? |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Tinker Date: 02 Aug 05 - 04:52 PM Yes it's got to be a no. The budget and the family just won't stretch for another jaunt. MMario, I thought he was out this way, but his web site doesn't have it listed and the list here is only New England. Ideas ???? Tinker |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: ranger1 Date: 02 Aug 05 - 06:35 PM Sins, it'll just be me. The Jay-boy has to save his time off for a family function. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jeri Date: 04 Aug 05 - 11:33 AM YES!!! I'll be there!!! I have to find out where "there" is, but I'll leave early. I hope to get directions from Batty or Mudge before I leave. Until next week, I'm relying on the kindness of of the strange (how I Blanche at the thought) because my computer ate its 3rd modem and I'm not feeding it any more. I needed a new computer anyway. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: MMario Date: 04 Aug 05 - 11:39 AM well - I know he's in wyndham NY this weekend - but I thought he had said he was in NJ before that. too late now, I guess. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: GUEST,Jed Marum on a borrowed PC Date: 05 Aug 05 - 09:47 AM I've had a great visit in NYC with my son and his wife over the last two days. My NJ pub gig fell through (bummer) and there was not enough time to replace it with another - so I've been forced to take a vacation! I did tape a radio show with Bill Hahn at WFDU while I was here, though - he's a good guy, it's a nice station (lotsa cool gear with great studios) and we had a lot of fun doing the show. I will put up a Mudcat notice as soon as I find out when the show is to be aired (WFDU webcasts too). I am heading out shortly for the Windham NY festival. The details are on my calendar at jedmarum.com - if anyone's looking for 'em. This look like a great event. I am hopeful the planes are flying regularly on next Thu for this House Concert. I am scheduled to pick up my wife before I head to Maine - so the timing should be perfect - but you know how these things go ... I may be there solo! I've told her so many stories about Kendall, that I'm surprised she was willing to risk showing up with me! LOL ... actually she loved Kendall's recordings. There's no accounting for taste, I guess! I hope she does make it because I'd like her to meet some of my other Mudcat friends too ... I believe she thinks Jeri and SINSULL and others are all just imaginary freinds! see y'all soon ;-) |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: MMario Date: 05 Aug 05 - 10:31 AM Your wife should know your mudcat friends aren't make -believe - who m=would make up friends like us? |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: PoppaGator Date: 05 Aug 05 - 11:44 AM As a former Southwest Airlines employee, Jed, I assume you know about the Providence (RI) airport as a preferable alternative to Boston Logan, which is nightmare to drive to and from. I'm especially aware of Providence because Southwest flies there nonstop from New Orleans, the only airline to do so and (of course) the least expensive, too. It's a nice little airport, conveniently located on a relatively quiet stretch of interstate highway. Of course, it may be a bit out of the way when the ultimate destination is "down east," which really means "way up north." But when traveling to Connecticut, Cape Cod, or even the city of Boston itself, Providence is a better flight-destination than Logan any day. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: MMario Date: 05 Aug 05 - 11:46 AM so that's how Emeril gets back and forth! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: GUEST,Pseudolus at work Date: 05 Aug 05 - 12:21 PM Hey, what are the chances of getting a recording of the event? CD or video? Make some copies and send em out to those of us that can't make it and naturally make us pay through the nose for them and give the money to Jed's favorite charity! Just an thought... Frank |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Dani Date: 05 Aug 05 - 01:52 PM "I've told her so many stories about Kendall, that I'm surprised she was willing to risk showing up with me!" The risk is if she shows up WITHOUT you, Jed. He's a dangerous man... Dani |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: SINSULL Date: 05 Aug 05 - 02:23 PM All systems are go here, Jed. House has been de-musseled and fresh sheets arranged. Wine, beer, a little of the hard stuff, plus food. Any special requests? See you soon. Mary imagine! Jeri in my house! A coup. I thank you Jed. |

Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: SINSULL Date: 08 Aug 05 - 08:44 AM Has anyone heard from Brian recently? He would really enjoy Jed. Anyone have his email address? I don't think I do. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: GUEST,Jed on a borrowed PC Date: 09 Aug 05 - 08:28 AM I had a nice turn out in Cambridge last night. Surprising for a Monday night ... felt a little bad about folks coming out some distance for a 40 minute set - but we had fun, and it was nice to see some long time, old friends. I am really looking forawrd to Portland and will be glad to share the rest of the trip with Lou. See y'all soon! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: MMario Date: 09 Aug 05 - 08:30 AM well - Jed you will remember I drove 3300 miles to hear you live *grin* so why be surprised people feel it's worth a while in a vehicle to hear you? I'm sure they felt it worth it! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Big Mick Date: 09 Aug 05 - 08:53 AM I sure wish I could be there with you, buddy. But I am enjoying this vicariously. Unfortunately I can't make the house concert, it is just a little too far for someone who has to be at work the next day. I really wanted to try so I could finally meet Lou, and share a song or two with you. All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jeri Date: 10 Aug 05 - 03:13 PM I'm back on line, I got directions to Mary's house (not from Mary) and I don't have to be at work until October, or maybe September. I am really looking forward to this! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: jacqui.c Date: 10 Aug 05 - 10:51 PM We've just got back from Mary's - the chairs have all been put out and food has been prepared. Mary's hospitality, as usual, cannot be faulted. To all that will be attending, you're in for a great time. For all those who can't make it - TOUGH! :0D |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: MMario Date: 11 Aug 05 - 10:38 AM oh right, rub it in Jacqui - and here I used to think you were *nice*. boy have my eyes been opened! I just doomed myself at Getaway, didn't I? drat. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Tinker Date: 11 Aug 05 - 11:39 AM Mario, you should be so relieved that Mary and I didn't "really" know Jacqui before we planned our first wedding reception. Those long lines of women in black veils and neon boas might have made it out of the planning stage. But being the wise woman she is, Jacqui usually shares her good fortune very well. Well this time she's just pushing her luck a tad bit.... Miss you all... tinker |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: MMario Date: 11 Aug 05 - 11:50 AM *grin* I figgered *that* out last year.... |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: gnu Date: 11 Aug 05 - 12:48 PM I will be thinking of youse guys tonight. As Mick says, I am Kelly Green with envy. I hope all of you have a great time. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jeri Date: 11 Aug 05 - 01:17 PM I have to find something to do until it's time to leave. I SHOULD mow the lawn. I SHOULD change the strings on my guitar, but I sound better with dead ones. I SHOULD make food, but it's too flippin' hot here...and humid, and the air's deader than my strings (or that last lobster that hid behind the pickle jar in the fridge). I'm becalmed in the doldrums of August. But the car's got air conditioning and the CD player still works. So, in about 3.5 hours or so, I'll be on my way. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: MMario Date: 11 Aug 05 - 01:28 PM Jeri - why don't you go for a nice long drive with the CD player and air conditioner? Then you can arrive cool calm and collected. Or take a book out to the car, sit in the driveway and listen to cool music for a while? |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: jacqui.c Date: 11 Aug 05 - 01:34 PM I'm just trying to make sure that next time you all get your asses in gear and get up here. I am so looking forward to the Getaway! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Tinker Date: 11 Aug 05 - 02:06 PM Hey I just got home a bit ago.... those of us almost eight hours away have a tough time running back and forth to the north country... but we'd love to.... Hugs all around.. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: jacqui.c Date: 11 Aug 05 - 02:45 PM I've just finished baking little apple pies and the chilli is having its second cook right now. I helped Mary make her sauage, pepper and onion concoction lat night (lovely stuff!) and am going over there in a while to help with salads and setting out...... I've also made something as a little surprise for Mary, if it turns out OK! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: SINSULL Date: 11 Aug 05 - 04:17 PM heh heh heh I have something of a surprise for jacqui as well. Sort of a preview to the Getaway. Mary Sunshine, who is hot, sticky and cranky but will improve with a shower. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Tinker Date: 11 Aug 05 - 07:09 PM Okay it's 7pm and I'm officially envious. I miss the old Hear Me Concerts where we could ease drop now and then. Oh well .... |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Charley Noble Date: 11 Aug 05 - 08:28 PM Yah, they're all having great fun and the rest of us are stuck with Mudcat. Virtual reality just doesn't cut it. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: jacqui.c Date: 12 Aug 05 - 12:41 AM We've just got back from a small but select gathering who enjoyed a wonderful concert from Jed. Kendall supplied backing on some of his numbers and a really good time was had by all. Now aren't you sorry that you didn't travel that few hundred miles just to be there? |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: MMario Date: 12 Aug 05 - 10:21 AM yeah - well it's the third hundred that is the killer. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: gnu Date: 12 Aug 05 - 10:36 AM The sixth hundred wouldn't be much fun either. Chili, sausage-pepper-onion concoction, and apple pie. Hmmm. A little ice cream with the pie and even a short drive home might be a killer. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: SINSULL Date: 12 Aug 05 - 10:58 AM They are all gone. Jacqui is helping me move furniture back. Jed was a joy! He sang for 3+ hours with just a short break. His banjola has the most wonderful sound - almost as good as the banjo. It was fun to see Kendall and Jed playing together while Jeri picked up harmony. And Jacqui sang while Kendall played. I am hurt that she did not share her joy at my birthday gift to her. I guess she really didn't like it. HARUMPH! Lu looks like Jed's child bride. A beautiful lady. She suits him and him her. They're welcome back anytime. Thanks to all who made the evening special. SINS |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: MMario Date: 12 Aug 05 - 11:05 AM Did he do 'Soul of A Wanderer'? |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: gnu Date: 12 Aug 05 - 11:09 AM Well... what was it? |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jeri Date: 12 Aug 05 - 12:56 PM Gnu, a hint: unlocker, English, R2 times this gives you something round. Good concert, lotsa requests (among a bunch of my requests, I asked for and got Soul of a Wanderer, MMario) loads of food, several large cats, one loud dog, and some really nice people. 'Twas good to meet Lou. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: MMario Date: 12 Aug 05 - 01:02 PM Key Limey Pi? sinsull - have I told you lately you are one of my favoritest mudcats? |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: gnu Date: 12 Aug 05 - 01:29 PM "Gnu, a hint: unlocker, English, R2 times this gives you something round." No MM, not Key Lime Pie... "R squared times" obviously refers to the olden times of the infamous "English" knight of the "round" table, Sir Ralph of Rotten (Rotten Ralphy) who was ruthless on the battlefields during the crusades. When he got back, he would "unlocker". It's clearly a chastity belt. Gee, I wouldn't think much of a present like that myself. Must be some kinda English humour eh? |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: jacqui.c Date: 12 Aug 05 - 03:37 PM I made Mary a key lime pie - first attempt and it came out quite well. Mary went to the Christmas Tree Shop and bought me the most godawful wine cooler ever seen on the planet. What do you think? http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jacquimorse/slideshow2?.dir=.3a25&.src=mail&.beg=1&.spd=2 Luckily there was a nice bottle of wine to go with it. Otherwise little Mary Sunshine might have found that item in a very inconvenient place! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: gnu Date: 12 Aug 05 - 04:11 PM I bow to the mistress of decorum for ignoring my frivolous and risqué post. She's a laaaady, she is. Anyway, if I did offend anyone, Canuck off eh. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: kendall Date: 12 Aug 05 - 04:16 PM All you no shows, you don't know what you missed. Jed put on a hell of a good entertainment. I'm glad I went and would go again. We picked up a couple of CDs which I'm sure will get played over and over. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: GUEST Date: 12 Aug 05 - 04:42 PM And you were too nice, were you, Jacqui, to tell Mary we THOUGHT about getting that for her as a hostess gift while we were there, but liked her too much to do it to her. Y'all are two peas in a pod, ladies! Dani |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jeri Date: 12 Aug 05 - 04:42 PM I'd definitely go again! Next time, I might bring the guitar because there was a serious lack of participatory music and the fiddle never made it out of the case. Of course, certain folks needed to go to bed early, so maybe things wouldn't have been different. It was a very intimate setting, and I got to sit in a position to see the man's right hand at an angle. Mr. Spider-fingers. He did use a flat pick for some stuff, but other stuff, I believe the flat pick was the nail of his index finger. And I want one o' them |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: PoppaGator Date: 12 Aug 05 - 05:47 PM Jed definitely uses his fingernails. In some thread, sometime within the last year, he 'fessed up to visiting a nail salon periodically where a nice Vietnamese lady keeps his talons in trim. That way, he can "flatpick" one song and "fingerpick" the next without having to change picks! And he never has a pick slip off his finger into the soundhole of his guitar, which is a terrible thing to happen mid-performance. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: jacqui.c Date: 12 Aug 05 - 06:04 PM 'Y'all are two peas in a pod, ladies!' I take that as the ultimate compliment! |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: GUEST,Dani Date: 12 Aug 05 - 06:29 PM Believe me, love, it is!! And my girls are totally jealous that they didn't get to visit that store. And *I* am totally jealous to have missed this concert. Glad you could make the trip and share your music so far afield, Jed. Dani |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: SINSULL Date: 12 Aug 05 - 06:30 PM You were going to get that godawful thing for me after I was so nice to you? The poor girl at the checkout counter couldn't even make eye contact with me. Now we wait and see where Kendall insists that Jacqui displays this gift from his friend Mary. Keep in mind, I drop in all the time. It isn't as if they can take it out in preparation for a visit. heh heh Fortunately it is multi-purposed. I have seen chrome versions of the same thing in hospital rooms. Jeri is right. On a Saturday, thiw would have turned into an all night song swap. But some of us had to work the next day. And some of us had been up since 5AM. Middle age is a bitch. August 27 is the nest Song CIrcle. No lobsters but I can guarantee beer. There was quite a bit left over last night. Will we see you this time, Leo? Jeri? How wonderful to have the bright, funny, taleneted Jeri C. in my home even if she chose to sleep in the garden. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Jeri Date: 12 Aug 05 - 06:36 PM Or two lunatics in an asylum. I'm not entirely sure I'm not one too, but these guys are so much more organized than I. PoppaG, I think it was Jed that spawned the Mudcat acrylic fingerpick craze. Mick got 'em, I got 'em, Rick Fielding got 'em (and they drove him bonkers), and who knows how many others. I'm giving my nails a little break, so to speak. The nail under the grown-out-most part was really thin and the acrylics weren't staying on very long. What's pretty funny is that Rick named them "The Beef Brothers" because they looked so much alike - same tallness, same facial hair, same ponytail. Well, Mick whacked his off (ponytail) and I thought that the similarity was diminishing. So I get to Mary's, and find Jed with lopped off hair...in the same exact style as Mick's. Now, I KNOW these guys don't get on the phone and say stuff like "Ooh! You just gotta get a pair of these jeans! They make your butt look great. By the way, what are you doing with your hair these days?" Yet another Beefy coinkidink. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: bfdk Date: 12 Aug 05 - 06:49 PM Kendall - and everybody else - there's no need to rub it in, it's bad enough as it is not being able to be there :-(( However, I simply couldn't afford the airfare, not coming so soon after going "'cross the pond" once. Now, what really bugs me is that I was actually just north of Boston for two weeks in May this year spending an enjoyable time with elderly relatives I'd never met before. But, had I known about this gig, I'd have delayed my holidays to coincide with it. Heck, by US standards North Shore MA is just about within walking distance of Portland if you're sufficiently determined, isn't it? So, stop rubbing, PLEASE ;-)) Best wishes, Bente in far away Denmark |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: GUEST,Dani Date: 12 Aug 05 - 07:32 PM Organized, Jeri? So they showed you the basement, did they?? Dani |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: SINSULL Date: 12 Aug 05 - 08:22 PM We even conned Kendall into going down into my basement on the pretext of setting up the dehudifier. Amazing how naively trusting the man can be. Locked him down there with the litter boxes. heh heh |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: ranger1 Date: 12 Aug 05 - 11:31 PM Ahem... Back to Jed's amazing music. All I can say is WOW! First time I'd ever heard any of his stuff, and to hear it live at SINSULL's. Thanks, Mary, for setting this up and for keeping after me to attend. And thanks, Jed and Lou for coming to Mary's. I'm still hearing snatches of song in my head 24 hours later. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: ranger1 Date: 12 Aug 05 - 11:33 PM Oh, and that, that OBJECT is truly hideous. It's so ugly that who ever made it didn't even stamp where ever it was made on it. |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: jacqui.c Date: 13 Aug 05 - 08:27 AM We're just off yard saling - I've got to start NOW looking for something even more hideous for my buddy's birthday in a couple of months......... |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: curmudgeon Date: 13 Aug 05 - 08:40 AM I don't think it looks all that hideous. Maybe it just photographs well. Glad everyone had a good time. See you all on the 27th, or at the Shanty session on the 20th- Tom |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: Tinker Date: 13 Aug 05 - 09:51 AM Now Mary why you didn't let Dani and I know about Jacqui's birthday so we could have left a present too. (and been long gone before she opened it...) See Jacqui she did have your best interest at heart. As for the gift... well I suppose it could hold flowers under the clamshell in the Godess garden.... hidden in a large clump of foliage... I was hoping to get up to Massachusetts today to see Jed, but Doctor's appointments have once again mucked up my schedule. Oh well I guess I'll just have to add a summer place in Maine to my wishlist. tinker |
Subject: RE: Jed Marum, House Concert From: SINSULL Date: 13 Aug 05 - 10:32 AM By the way, Tinker, I found a lovely pair of blue glass earrings left behind from the lobster boil. A much nicer leave behind than the unwashed lobster pot that turned up four days later. Shall I send them on? You're right, Tami. Jed has created some wonderfully haunting tunes that turn up at odd moments. I was so disappointed that Brian didn't make it. He and Jed could have swapped some tunes and lyrics. Next time. |
