Subject: RE: BS: Where is your Blog? From: CapriUni Date: 21 Sep 05 - 09:12 PM Well, Stephen, I believe in erring on the side of politeness. It makes it that much harder to dismiss my arguments as "just an angry rant." |
Subject: RE: BS: Where is your Blog? From: Stephen L. Rich Date: 21 Sep 05 - 07:23 PM CapriUni, You were being WWAAAAAYYY too polite with "Dear, Mr. President:PTHLPTHLPTHLPTH!" Stephen Lee |

Subject: RE: BS: Where is your Blog? From: CapriUni Date: 21 Sep 05 - 06:37 PM Oh, go wild! Do both! you can never have too many great adventure paradies! |
Subject: RE: BS: Where is your Blog? From: Rapparee Date: 21 Sep 05 - 06:12 PM But WHICH Alaskan adventure? The one I posted to the Way Up North thread, or the more recent one in which I tried and failed to connect with Ebbie? |
Subject: RE: BS: Where is your Blog? From: CapriUni Date: 21 Sep 05 - 02:20 PM I'm not convinced there is a difference between a livejournal and a blog. Live journal = on-line diary = web log, surely. You're probably right. It may just be that I'm biased, but it just strikes me that LiveJournals (or LJ's) have a diffeent general vibe about them than Blogspot blogs... more... laid back, conversational, and less soapboxy. But that could be a self-selection thing: The people who find LiveJournal's layout and organization attractive tend to be laid back, more conversational folks. I know I got my own journal so that it would be easier to carry on online conversations with good friends who had journals, not because I wanted to be a famous online personality, or anything (though I have made new friends from people who read what I've written and like it, which is nice. And I probably wouldn't have met them otherwise). (Oh, and I'm coming up on my three-year LiveJournal anniversary). |
Subject: RE: BS: Where is your Blog? From: Bill D Date: 21 Sep 05 - 12:19 PM Many years ago, an author was asked how to write well, get published..etc... He answed (paraphrased) "First you need to decide whether you have something you NEED to say, or whether you just want to have written a book." I haven't decided yet whether I NEED to have a web log. (I do know that I don't like 'newspeak' much, and 'blog' sounds a lot like people who say 'shrooms' for mushrooms.) |
Subject: RE: BS: Where is your Blog? From: Dave Hanson Date: 21 Sep 05 - 09:09 AM It's a contraction, weblog, still sounds like newspeak to me. eric |

I was hoping it was published because ti certainly deserves to be. kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Where is your Blog? From: hesperis Date: 20 Sep 05 - 05:48 PM I have a livejournal. I like it because it's more than just a blog. And if you make a public post people who haven't registered at lj can still comment. Do you have a blog, harpgirl? |
Subject: RE: BS: Where is your Blog? From: ranger1 Date: 20 Sep 05 - 05:39 PM I have one, but after reading this thread, I'm not going share. Pbbbt! |

Subject: RE: BS: Where is your Blog? From: CapriUni Date: 20 Sep 05 - 05:29 PM ahem -- I have a livejournal. I don't use it as a soapbox (much) but as a way to share thoughts and happenings with a group of friends -- more like a shared diary/newsletter. I don't expect it to be read by all and sundry, but it's a nice and easy way to stay connected to people I care about. But I suppose LiveJournals are not "blogs" in the strictest sense of the word. ... But I enjoy reading several "real" blogs, too. Not all bloggers "have nothing to say" (and how do you know until you try reading some of them?). For what it's worth, my LiveJournal is here: CapriUni. |
Subject: RE: BS: Where is your Blog? From: GUEST,Ed Date: 20 Sep 05 - 05:02 PM Blogs are written by people who can't get their voice heard in the 'real world' There is, generally, a good reason for that. Quite why anyone would wish to read the diatribe of people who have nothing interesting to say, is beyond me |
Subject: RE: BS: Where is your Blog? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 20 Sep 05 - 03:18 PM I had to set one up account-wise to respond to a friend's post when she started one. I thought that was a bit pushy (I think it was Blogspot). I never posted anything to the one I set up. I spend enough time writing things in other venues, I am not interested in starting up what might be the writing of otherwise great ruminations, only to have them disappear into a black hole. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Where is your Blog? From: Ebbie Date: 20 Sep 05 - 02:32 PM Interesting that this should pop up now. About 20 of us have been meeting to explore activism on various levels, and the consensus at this point is that we'll start with our own community. Juneau, our home, has a number of issues that have not been resolved to everyone's satisfaction. At the next meeting our premise is that each of us will put on the table, so to speak, our passion. One person's passion, for instance, is AIDS, someone else's is bicycling to reduce parking congestion and to address our petroleum-based lifestyle, another's is to elect someone to the City Assembly who shares our concerns... Our idea is to pick up a few 'do-able' projects to get aboard. We will be brainstorming ideas. I've gotten to wondering if a blog might be a way to reach more people on a wider level. |

Subject: RE: BS: Where is your Blog? From: Rapparee Date: 20 Sep 05 - 01:58 PM Don't have one and probably never will. I don't think that I or my ideas are so overarchingly important that everyone in the universe needs to read them -- and I know that my daily activities aren't! |
