Subject: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favor From: Warsaw Ed Date: 03 Aug 05 - 12:10 AM What's the cause of the close down of the Record Lady's Web Site? I'm surprised that someone from Mudcat would have noticed! I sent an E-Mail but no response yet. And I 'm unable to connect to the website Message Center. What are the "Why's and Wherefore's?" Ed |
Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favor From: Ebbie Date: 03 Aug 05 - 12:19 AM "Due to circumstances beyond my control, this site will be forced to CLOSE DOWN by August 1, 2005! "Bookmark the address of my message board so you can keep up with what is going on. "Also you can e-mail me at recldy (at)mail.com if you'd like to know any of the "whys or wherefores" of this forced shutdown. " Now, this makes me sad. It is such a service. I have no idea how many people periodically sent money but I don't think she ever got enough. That's my guess. But maybe it was instead a copyright issue. She's had rough times before. I hope she'll weather this one too. |
Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favor From: wysiwyg Date: 03 Aug 05 - 10:49 AM Wasn't there a recent file-sharing ruling that would tend to have put her at risk? I think if it were financial she'd have said so. ~Susan |

Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites From: Jim Dixon Date: 04 Aug 05 - 08:34 AM It's true: Her main page (The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites) is still up, but if you go there and then click on any of her links, for example, "Real Country Page 1" you get the "Page not found" message. It's a shame. But frankly, I always wondered how she got away with it so long. I could understand the record companies leaving her alone as long as she was posting only songs that couldn't be obtained in commercial recordings--but nowadays almost everything is available somewhere. |
Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites From: Warsaw Ed Date: 04 Aug 05 - 06:18 PM Thanks, Susan, for the keys to the Message Board. Yhey don't give the complete "Why's and Wherefore's" but enough to understand her decision. I can't find any news or other information about this situation. [reminds me of the Helen Reddy song "Ain't No Way To Treat A Lady"]. Ed |

I haven't recieved a response from my inquiry. I' trying to see how this situation fits in with the US Supreme Court's Opinions and concurrances. Thanks Ed. |
Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites From: wysiwyg Date: 07 Aug 05 - 05:43 PM Hey, it's not OK to post someone's email on an open forum! If she wanted it open, she'd post it at her own site. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 07 Aug 05 - 07:47 PM The link given by Jim Dixon now leads to an email address, if you wish to write. If there is a legal problem, she may not be able to give any information. On our part, we can wish her well, and a successful resolution to her problem. |
Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites From: Louie Roy Date: 07 Aug 05 - 07:49 PM I'll contact Rose and ask her to post the same email I got from her.As Susan said I have no right to post someone elses email. If I read correctly between the lines in her email mudcat could be next, but the person that causede her the trouble could go after us but he would have to do file a complaint against each one of us.Louie Roy |
Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites From: GUEST,muzzrat@comcast.net Date: 08 Aug 05 - 07:37 AM some guy in florida was claiming to have co-ownership,or ownership of all the songs she had on the site..... what a jerk...she wasn't going to fight the riaa and know she would lose...he demanded that she remove all songs from the site. i really miss the site too!!! |
Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites From: GUEST,Arkie Date: 08 Aug 05 - 11:10 AM This site was a real treasure and an opportunity to hear music that is not available on radio or television, and much that is still not available on CDs. Music diversity is certainly facing a real challenge. I certainly hate to see sites like this that allow folk to listen to what they want to hear or to sample music not readily available disappear. The loss of this site will leave a gaping hole in American culture. |
Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites From: Louie Roy Date: 08 Aug 05 - 11:17 AM I got an email from Rose this AM and she said she has a ton of email from members of mudcat that she hasn't had time to nswer yet but would answer all who wrote.Have Patience. Also here is a web page she shared with me that all who are interested can look at and see for themselves the triangle we could be in. http://www.riaa.com/issue/music/downup faq.asp If this web page don't work for you instead of having a space after downup use a_then faq.asp in other words it would look like this downup_faq.asp Hse also said please don't post any of her emails to the forum Louie Roy |
Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites From: Warsaw Ed Date: 08 Aug 05 - 03:23 PM Louie Roy - comes up "web page not found" either way. Ed |
Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 08 Aug 05 - 04:09 PM RIAA gets the main page, and use the links to find issues, News and Views, etc. All of the articles are in general terms; I could not find specific mention of the Record Lady. Press Room News and Views lists current actions on file sharers cited in law, but individual actions not named. |
Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 08 Aug 05 - 04:22 PM Some major case are spelled out, sorry about that, but the site is not easy to navigate for a newcomer to it. See esp. DIMA Rulemaking, where actions against file sharers are spelled out, and look at the action against Xact, etc. No mention of Record Lady anywhere that I could find. |

Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites From: GUEST,Obie Date: 11 Aug 05 - 12:10 PM It is a shame that The Record Lady would seem to be harrased by the recording industry. The greatest thief of copyright has been the industry itself throughout it's history. Many songwriters have had their copyright stolen by fine print in contracts. Woody said it all: "Some will rob you with a six-gun, some with a fountain pen." Obie |
Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites From: open mike Date: 11 Aug 05 - 03:07 PM maybe we will be lucky enough to have some one who actually archived the entire collection of record lady- it was a treasure...and can re-post it somewhere?? it was a very extensive collection and a rare treat to find it.. lots of music that is not available any where else.. what a loss. way to go florida guy.. why pick on her?? I have good memories of listening to her site unfortunately now only memories...boo hoo.. i remember hearing some of the best yodeling and other ole timey sounds not often heard elsewhere |
Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 11 Aug 05 - 03:32 PM I guess my collection is like most- haphazard, and mostly from certain artists. I wonder how much space her collection would occupy? Of course if someone re-posted the site, that would not fit the definition of personal use and prosecution could follow. |
Subject: RE: The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites From: Louie Roy Date: 11 Aug 05 - 10:58 PM Like I said this is a two headed sword and with the conversations I've had the honor to have with Rose if we never post another reply to this thread she would appreciate it very much.So lets respect her wishes and let this thread obliterate.Louie Roy |
