Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Pheasant Pluckers Song From: Tangledwood Date: 25 Jul 08 - 04:01 AM It looks as if there are probably versions to many different tunes. This one has spoken verses with sung choruses. I know nothing about it's origin. http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~mentor01/pheasantplucker.mp3 |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Pheasant Pluckers Song From: wilbyhillbilly Date: 19 Nov 07 - 04:10 AM I've got the Wurzels singing it but I,m pretty sure it was about long before they were "invented". If anyone wants an mp3 file of it for research purposes only, pm me. |

Subject: Origins: The Pheasant Pluckers Song From: Joe Offer Date: 06 Aug 05 - 01:31 PM We've had a number of threads on this song (see crosslinks above), but no solid information about where the song comes from. Is it from the Wurzels, or where's it from? Joan from Wigan posted an ABC of the tune for her song in this thread (I'll post a MIDI when MIDI FTP gets fixed) - is Joan's tune the tune for the song in the DT, or is it of her own making? -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Pheasant Pluckers Song From: GUEST,Fantum Date: 05 Aug 05 - 08:16 PM Dani and Dave The british grenadier is in the digitad. The grand old duke of york is wrong The british grenadier is the tune that gets played when a movie wants you to know you are in England. It is almost the archetypal song for defining the British. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Pheasant Pluckers Song From: NH Dave Date: 04 Aug 05 - 11:30 PM I believe many of the Wurtzel's songs were done to traditional English or Irish tunes. I have heard the tune to this song at other events, but don't know what it is properly called. Dave |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Pheasant Pluckers Song From: Dani Date: 04 Aug 05 - 10:15 PM Is the British Grenadier the same tune used for The Grand Old Duke of York? I think that's what I've heard it sung to, though I don't dare sing it: just saying it is hard enough. Dani |
