i seen a telly programme, it says hull got more fish and chip shops than any other city in uk [about 200],and it also got about 200 kebab ships ans curry ships.
and only 5 gyms [gyms are rubbish].

and in hull we got a smoking club, a binge drinking club, and a ferret club.waht more could anybody want in a city?

and hull got loads of pubs as well.

and pound shiops and charity ships.

Hull is indeed a fine city and I look forward to sampling all of the 200 fish n'chip ships and also all of the the pubs in due course (so far only one fish n'chip ship and one curry ship and three or four pubs).

I will give the smoking club and binge drinking club a miss I think as that is not really my thing.

Not many people nowadays know that it was the citizens of Hull who hung a ship-wrecked monkey, thinking that the monkey was a French spy.

The Mayor of Hull told the press that it had happened at Hartlepool, and the thick sods of Hartlepool thought it improved their image so didn't deny it.   So that is why everyone now thinks it was people of Hartlepool what did it.

(Here in America, the supportors of Hartlepool F.C. call themselves "The Monkey Hangers"), so its not only the British who have got it wrong.

Hull IS on the up, slowly but surely, I've been here all my 34 years so I can vouch for that.

I used to dislike Hull but don't any more, it's cheap here and that's important when you're not very minted... there are good places and events here, you just have to seek them out because they're the ones ignored by the Hull Daily Fail.

The people in Hartlepool actually believe that they once hung a monkey thinking it was a Napoleonic spy.   They believe heart and soul, because all their parents, teachers and ministers told them that it was true.

The original mob started off by not denying the blame thrown at them by Hull, but went on to accept that if everyone in the press said that they had done it,then they must have done it, because you can always rely on what is printed in newspapers as being the gospel truth.   And later generations did not stop to think how stupid a story it really is.   It only makes sense if you relocate the action to Hull - they have the mental and physical capacity to pull off such a harebrained scheme.   (And are sneaky enough to blame someone else).

It's rahter like that bloke Hannaran (sp?) what accepted the blame for all of Christie's murders and got chopped for it.   No one could convince him he didn't do any of them.   Not even his defence attorney.   And now Hartlepooleans are convinced that they murdered that poor little creature that had done nobody any harm ....

My ancestors came from Cottingham (frighteningly close to Hull), and I'm rather odd in a creepy sort of way(I listen to Roy Harper from choice, play 'Willie o' Winesbury' finger-style on a resonator, support Southampton and bore people in pubs with pop trivia - Buddy Holly's pilot was Roger Perterson, Phil Lynott's middle name was Paris, Will Young is crap, etc).

I thought about moving to Hull so I went there to have a look around. I met this guy in a pub and asked him.... "Is it so full of druggies here as they say and so terribly violent?" He told me there was a drug problem but the violence was minimal. I asked him what he did for a living and he told me he was a "Tail gunner" on an ice cream van.

Actually I seem to remember that the monkey landed in Whitby about the time that Bram Stoker imported a black dog called Dracula. The mayor of Harrogate was holidaying in Whitby at the time which is irrelevant except that he was staying in the same seaside boarding house as the Chief Executive Officer of Hartlepool District Council. He had a cousin whose next door neighbour's father was rather too fond of a "binge-drinking club" in Hull - are you with me so far?
I'm not sure I am - I seem to have lost the thread - but I know that some sort of misunderstanding happened because the Chief Exec. and his cousin got drunk together at ... somebody's ... funeral in Selby.

Then Dracula burst in and turned them all into monkeys!!

I think that's right ... may have got some of the details a bit mixed up ...

I was born and bread in Hull it was a nice place then. I only go there now to visit friends as I don't like the way the city is now. The city centre is dirty and ful of litter. People are rude or drunk or both. I saddens me.

In 1642, Hull refused entry to Charles I. This was a major event leading up to the English Civil War which ended with the King getting his head cut off. – So Hull isn't all bad!

I just want to say that I accompanied a busload of disabled people today on a bus trip to the Sea Life Centre in Hull - called the Deep.

And we had a great time. The local people were really pleasant to us and helpful and polite.

Nothing prepared me for the actual building that The Deep is housed in. It is a stunningly beautiful location . From the observatory at the top - you can see the whole bay - from Spurn Point to Immingham and there is a fabulous view of the Humber Bridge -its entire span.

As it is the hometown of The Watersons - I thought maybe there should be some traditional folk music there reflecting the seafaring folk of Hull who contributed so much to our folk culture.

Also as the home of The Hull truck theatre co. - there must be a fair number of actors around the place. I couldn't help feeling - maybe somebody could be a narrator, in the same way that there is on the hoe in Plymouth - but perhaps they do that somewhere else in Hull.

anyway. well done done Hull!

It was Timothy Evans who was tried, found guilty and hung for the murders at 10 Rillington Place that were committed by Christie.

Whoever had nicked me car drove it round to a service station, filled it up - presumably to create a bigger blaze - and drove away without paying.
