Subject: Review: Heard of the Tiger Lillies? From: UncleToad Date: 17 Aug 05 - 09:49 PM I was watching Ovation on TV the other night and was entranced by a British group by the name of "Tiger Lillies". A bit strange by any measure...falsetto lead singer playing accordian with a bass player and drums. A most enjoyable tune was Flying Robert and I would like to find a copy of this song without buying an album...any ideas? Thanks to all 'catters, Uncle(GottaHaveIt!)Toad |
Subject: RE: Review: Heard of the Tiger Lillies? From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 18 Aug 05 - 11:07 AM I think they came out to Australia a few years ago for the Adelaide festival. I saw them on the ABC I think. The accordion was a small size and had their name on it. Continental Cabaret style - think 1930's German was some of teh style they were doing then. I would like to get some of their stuff too. |
Subject: RE: Review: Heard of the Tiger Lillies? From: Mark Cohen Date: 19 Aug 05 - 10:38 AM At Princeton University there have been two close harmony singing groups for decades: the Tigertones and the Nassoons. (The latter were named for Nassau Hall, the original building of the College of New Jersey, which now holds administrative offices). When Princeton became coed in 1969 (the year before I started there), a new group quickly arose: the Tigerlilies. I don't know if they're still around. (Thread creep, for sure, but someone might be interested.) Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: Review: Heard of the Tiger Lillies? From: Cool Beans Date: 19 Aug 05 - 11:07 AM The Tiger Lillies toured in a show called "Shockheaded Peter." There is a CD (I have it in my hand) called "Shockheaded Peter: A Junk Opera." Released in 1998 or '99 on MVC Arts label, a Warner Music Group Company. "Flying Robert" is on the album. |
Subject: RE: Review: Heard of the Tiger Lillies? From: DMcG Date: 19 Aug 05 - 11:49 AM Both the CD and the show are worth hearing/seeing if you can cope with the ... umm ... err... unusual. It is based on the Shock-headed Peter book, but is if anything more gruesome and violent than the original. |

Subject: RE: Review: Heard of the Tiger Lillies? From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 21 Aug 05 - 12:02 AM OK Piano Accordion players, what is the instrument played? (keyboard size, bass buttons and number of reeds for non-players - original maker brand too if you know) |
