Farewell Mo, straight talking people's politician. She was my headgirl at school, inspirational even then. She packed more into her 55 years than the rest of us will pack into 80. Shake 'em up in Heaven Mo, there's a girl!

as you will be aware I am no lover of British ministers, but did admire the work of the late Mo Mowlam who died today after a long illness. Her stance in recent years within the Labour party got her the elbow. Always referred to our boys in Long Kesh as POW's at meetings. God be kind to her.

She must have had a lot going for her as she was detested by the Unionists, and Blair and his spin doctor Mandy Mandelson did the dirt on her, she was too honest for the shower of liars associated with New Labour.

She was the same age as me... sad when a contemporary goes. I read the biography of her last year and have bought her autobiography but not started it as yet.

I feel she did so much to further peace in Northern Ireland. The papers said it was a shame she hadnt lived to see fruition of her work... but I think she did.

True child of the 60s and stuck to ideals formulated in flowerpower. Too many of our generation have become staid....

Nice TV programme tonight with Rolf Harris overseeing portraits of Mo by 3 artists. She chose the one by the Irish lady. Hope the other 2 paintings are given to the right places in her memory... ie Stormont and Westminster!!! They re on show in Belfast I think at the min.

How sad! She was the human face of British politics - a tough lady in a sense quite different from Maggie's or Ann Widdecombe's toughness. 'Positively' tough, so to speak. I will miss her.

I wonder if Tony Blair will interrupt his holiday to come back for her funeral?

For a day or so anyway the focus on Mo Mowlem will maybe make people a bit more aware of what a very shabby bunch of timeservers and apparatchiks there are crawling around the front benches of Parliament. Even more so than was the case with the death of Robin Cook.

And the thing is, it really doesn't have to be like that.

From an online Book of Condolence for Ian Drury: Only Ian could have had Mo Mowlem standing up in a box yelling "Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll"

She was a friend of Lonnie Donegan, and went along to his memorial service back in 32003. I was trying to find the list of reciords she chose in a pretty memorable Desert Island Discs, but the BBC's website for the programme doesn't have it.

Once Mo has had a bit of a rest, I hope she comes back and haunts a few people...

I heard the news of Mo Mowlem's death on the radio early this morning and was deeply saddened. She was a feisty lady with more than her fair share of intellect and courage and will be sadly missed. What little remains of the true Labour Party is further diminished by her passing.

Why can't we shed a few of the "timeservers and apparatchicks" instead of the Cooks and Mowlems of this world?

Last night on the BBC news Ian Paisley jnr. of the DUP, or the child as we like to call him, said she did nothing for peace in Northern Ireland. He added the best thing she did while here was to plant a bug in Gerry Adams car. That is the type of fool that refuses to sit with us at a table ! Gerry Adams gave a glowing tribute to Mo and righty so.We all praise her life and regret her passing.
