Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Bo Date: 06 Sep 05 - 02:09 AM The only way to improve on the 13 hour session in the Eight Bells on Saturday is to start earlier! If big business can have "breakfast" meetings then maybe we can have a "breakfast" session. Any Ideas? I'm sure I can be in place by 10:30 See you all there. Bo |

Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: GUEST,The Barden of England Date: 12 Sep 05 - 04:19 AM What happened there??? Hi Richard - I'm running the Friday night welcome one at the Eight Bells from about 8:30pm onwards. Saturday lunchtime I'm hosting the John Smedley Music session (and very honoured I am too) at the White Lion and once again the White Lion for the evening session - that on e will probably be in the saddlery (as it was last year) as it's far too noisy in the bar. I think it's Bo and Synbyn at the Eight Bells, so it should be fun (hopefully) at both venues. John Barden |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: GUEST,DB Date: 12 Sep 05 - 04:45 AM My granny used to live in St. Michaels - near Tenterden. Haven't been there for about 30 years. As I live 'up North' I don't get 'darn Sarf' very often, these days. As a small child my favourite place, in St. Michaels, used to be a shop, in a sort of tin hut, on the main road; it used to sell every variety of pop available (well, I thought it did!). I don't suppose it's still there, is it? Anyway, have a nice festival. |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Richard Bridge Date: 13 Sep 05 - 03:40 AM Will there be a Mudgather? |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Dave Earl Date: 13 Sep 05 - 03:48 AM I'll be there but I have a bit of stewarding to do so may not get to everything that I have been to in previvious years. Also my other half has her fathers funeral to go to and may not get there at all. Will certainly look in at the Eight bell and White Lion when I can. I've got my Mudcat badge now so if you don't know me the badge will give the game away. See you there. Dave Earl |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Dave Masterson Date: 13 Sep 05 - 10:38 AM I'll be wearing my Mudcat badge too Dave - will be coordinating the dance teams etc, Eileen is hosting the concert in the White Lion Saddlery lunchtime, and we're both hosting eve in the Woolpack, so Saturday is a bit hectic! Looking forward to chilling out on Sun, perhaps on the Folk train. See you there. |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Dave Earl Date: 13 Sep 05 - 11:07 AM The Woolpack is where we are staying and i have to steward at the Saddlery on sat morn so probably run into you in one of these places if not elsewhere (8 bells White Lion etc.) Dave Earl |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Dead Horse Date: 13 Sep 05 - 10:44 PM I shall no doubt come down just to heckle the Barden of Olde England, and anyone else foolish enough to put up with me! |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: GUEST,The Barden of England at work Date: 14 Sep 05 - 04:06 AM Thanks for that Dead Horse. In fact I've been known to heckle myself before now!! :-). Hope to see you there John Barden |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Dave Earl Date: 17 Sep 05 - 04:59 PM Mr Masterson Sir, Will our paths not have crossed during the other event the weekend before? Thats Whittlebury for those who don't know (There's a separate Thread) Dave Earl |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: My guru always said Date: 18 Sep 05 - 05:38 AM Doesn't look like I'll be able to get along on the Saturday for the Sing in the Eight Bells this year *sigh* Any Sings going on the Sunday???? |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: synbyn Date: 19 Sep 05 - 01:37 PM Sure we can gather on the folk trains- these just posted on the site- on Sunday, but doubtless a terrestial singaround will emerge... |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Sep 05 - 10:09 AM It seems the bus shuttle to and from the campsite has now been confirmed. Does anyone know what time the last bus back is going to be - it would be a bugger to miss it. |

Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: GUEST,The Barden of England at work Date: 21 Sep 05 - 05:16 AM Richard - below has been lifted as is from the Tenterden website. Friday 30th September: The normal evening station coaches will stop at The Woodlands at approximately 5.00, 5.45, 6.20, 7.00, 7.40, 8.40, and 9.40 p.m. on their way back to Tenterden town centre. 11.30 p.m. - coach from Tenterden town centre to The Woodlands Park. Saturday 1st October: 9.45 a.m. - coach from The Woodlands Park to Tenterden town centre. 12.00 p.m. (midnight) - coach from Tenterden town centre to The Woodlands Park. Sunday 2nd October: 9.45 a.m. - coach from The Woodlands Park to Tenterden town centre. 6.00 p.m. - coach from Tenterden town centre to The Woodlands Park. There will be a charge of £2.00 for each coach journey as a contribution to the running costs of the service. Please let us have your comments on this services and how it can realistically and economically be expanded in the future. Remember the coach company need to cover their costs and pay the driver and Tenterden Folk Festival cannot afford to subsidise the service too much without putting up the prices of festival tickets, which is just passing the cost on to those who are not using the service! |

Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Mr Happy Date: 26 Sep 05 - 04:02 AM Richard, I won't be attending Tenterden as I'll be at Ingleton FF+ Ribbleshead Gathering this w/end. However, I looked at your link to the fest website & came accross this info in relation to the new campsite: 'Please note that due to the introduction of the new Single Farm Subsidy, Mr Edwards is unable to allow us to use his field for camping this year. ' I've not heard of 'Single Farm Subsidy' before. What is this, & is it likely to place restrictions on camping elsewhere? |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Dead Horse Date: 26 Sep 05 - 06:29 AM Its to do with the new European legislation for equal opportunities and Gay Rights. Married farms, as opposed to Single farms, will now be possitively encouraged to have blatently homosexual scarecrows placed in roadside locations. So be prepared to see scarecrows with pink dresses, floral hats, or Carmen Miranda type head gear standing with hands on hips as opposed to outstretched arms etc. If a farm has applied for Single Subsidy, however, no such "camping" is allowed! |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Mr Happy Date: 26 Sep 05 - 03:11 PM that response is most unhelpful. I'll pm Richard instead. |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Richard Bridge Date: 26 Sep 05 - 03:33 PM I have pm'd back. you can post it if you like |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Mr Happy Date: 26 Sep 05 - 06:30 PM Richard, ok, thanks once again |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Dead Horse Date: 26 Sep 05 - 07:56 PM Mr Happy appears to be a misnomer, huh? |

Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Dave Masterson Date: 29 Sep 05 - 02:48 PM Dave E - unfortunately our paths would not have crossed as Eileen & I were having our yearly fix of Greek culture - thus the late reply to your post! See you this weekend. |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Dead Horse Date: 02 Oct 05 - 04:02 AM Its the morning after the night before..... I had a good time heckling dancers, musicians and singers. I then proceeded to have a few pints of Black Sheep whilst heckling the barmaids. I sang two songs, between which I had a little snooze brought on by the laudenem or the cocaine or whatever it is they puts in beer to make it taste nice and make it habit forming. The wife then took me home. I had a good time, and I aint got a headache. Must go again next year. And heckle. |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Richard Bridge Date: 02 Oct 05 - 03:32 PM It's the evening after the night before. I bet some people have got off the folk train and are back in the 8 Bells which I left at about 6.30 to come home. |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Richard Bridge Date: 02 Oct 05 - 04:01 PM I did have a good hour or so jamming downstairs in the 8 Bells with Pete Coe's nephew. What was his name again? |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: GUEST,The Barden of England at work Date: 03 Oct 05 - 10:06 AM Richard - You were a star in my mind this weekend at Tenterden. I did a least get some rest between running the sessions - and didn't get too much heckling from Dead Horse even after him doing nasty things to 'Black Sheep' (that's why he was wearing wellies!), but you just seemed to keep on going. What stamina, and staying power. I was knackered when I got home yesterday at about 14:30hrs. Well done, and thanks for turning out. Hope you had fun and the 'Dog sitters' were happy. John Barden |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Richard Bridge Date: 03 Oct 05 - 10:47 AM Flattery will get you everywhere. Pissed off with myself for screwing up "White Rabbit". I got home about 8 pm. So many songs, so little time! Dogsitters long gone but happily no dogshitters. I'm not going to that fish n chip shop again though, I spent half of Sat eve in the bog and could only face drinking half a pint from 8 pm to 11.30! Quite a few of the usual suspects missing from the sinagrounds. I suspect they must have been in the Woolpack with the Morris men. Anyone know how the Sun eve session in the 8 Bells went? Dave Cooper was worth listening to, though. I wonder if he realised that I learned almost everything I know from Jacqui - who was part of one of his/her first bands, called, I think, the Chapmen. Shame we did not get a song from Pete Chopyn, I'm almost sure I saw him at the bar on the Sat. A few wholly wonderful turns in Bob and Kath's club singaround. Particularly the squeezers. Cracking song that that storyteller did on Friday and Saturday. Matthewman is always great. Marion is sublime. Brian and Marian were excellent - but did not look happy, did you think? |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Richard Bridge Date: 03 Oct 05 - 11:58 AM Oh, yes, and what was the name of Pete Coe's nephew? |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: GUEST,Billy Date: 03 Oct 05 - 03:38 PM My morris musician daughter overheard the manager of the White Lion refer to " f*****g folkies," in respect of the proffering of tankards for filling. I feel inclined to stay out of there in future if that's his attitude, there are other places to spend our money in. |

Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: GUEST,simonb Date: 03 Oct 05 - 05:07 PM I had a bloody good time at The Eight Bells, with Richard, Bryan and Marion, Kevin Henty( the mad sqeezebox player with the unforgivable shirt ) And the Locals that were running the session Thanks |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Bo Date: 04 Oct 05 - 02:40 AM Having taken seven and a half hours to get there on Friday I intended to make as much of the weekend as I could. Fantastic weekend in everything I dropped into. It is always good to meet old freinds and make a lot of new ones too. I'm very sorry for the sound glitches on Friday evening, Pete Coe sailed though it in his usual style. I tried to make a fix to the monitors on Saturday morning and the Rainbow Chasers concert survived with the help of a large chunk of gaffer tape. I never travel without it! We all owe Alan Castle a big vote of thanks for all the hard work behind (and in front of) the scenes. Without him it may still exist but it would not be the same. The Sunday evening session was a bit crowded and space was at a premium but it was a good end to the weekend, Apart from taking 1hr 20m to reach Tonbridge on Monday morning the trip back home was uneventfull. For those interested I will be starting a new thread in the next couple of days to re-home my folk club here. Keep in touch. See you all next year!! Thanks, Bo |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Richard Bridge Date: 04 Oct 05 - 03:00 AM Someone must know the name of Pete Coe's nephew. Please? It's driving me potty that I can't remember after we played thrash-jam-folk-pop together (with a digeridoo player) for over an hour after Bob and Kath's club ended. Something Beever, or maybe Beevor? |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Richard Bridge Date: 05 Oct 05 - 03:16 AM Someone must know that name.... |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: RoyH (Burl) Date: 05 Oct 05 - 06:42 AM Some years ago I sang at Tenterden Festival where I heard an excellent young singer named Oliver Bootle. I thought he had great potential and made a note to look out for him in the future. He sang solo and also with a melodeon playing partner, name forgotten. A cd came out but I heard nothing more. He seems to have disappeared. Anyone know anything about him? Burl. |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Richard Bridge Date: 05 Oct 05 - 08:48 AM He seems to have dropped off the face of google. bootle website Although the properties tab says it is live as at May this year, the info peters out 1997! |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Richard Bridge Date: 05 Oct 05 - 11:13 AM What's the name of Pete Coe's nephew? If I don't find out soon I'm going to have to start a thread on the topic! |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Dave Earl Date: 05 Oct 05 - 11:22 AM Richard, The other young lad in the bar (not the didge player) said "I'm here with Jason" and pointed vaguely in the direction of the window under which you were jamming. Any help? Dave Earl |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Richard Bridge Date: 05 Oct 05 - 03:58 PM Right. Thanks BC. I thought so, but I'm sure the surname was Beever(s) or Beevor(s) and I've seen reviews with his name in, and when I asked he said he used to have a name band (and I knew the name when he said it, it was like "The Beautiful South" - but obviously not them, and I've googled away like buggery on all the variations and I can't trace him there on google. Odd that. He could spank a guitar loudly though! |
Subject: RE: Tenterden Festival From: Dave Masterson Date: 06 Oct 05 - 04:06 AM Sorry I can't help, Richard, but apparently he lives locally and has promised Alan Castle he will try to get along to the monthly 8 Bells session sometime. The digeridoo player (didn't get his name either!) was with our resident poet David at the Woolpack on Sat evening and subsequently turned up with his didge on Sun. It's encouraging to know that when younger people take the time to sit and listen us olds they find that folk music turns them on. At the final session in the Bells on Sunday evening he gave a mean performance of digeridoo playing. I didn't get a chance to thank him as he left before the end, but next time I see David I'll ask him to pass on our appreciation and to encourage him to come along to the monthly session. Thanks to all, another great weekend. |
